Will shift the power balance from Gestede + his man over to Owen and Coleman. Don't see it happening, but maybe it's just me hoping for someone better.
-
Realistically Id say Johnson is going to be in charge for the next two games and we should be looking to make a permanent appointment before the game on the 14th. If however Johnson got 4-6 points and the option was (say) Chris Coleman, would you be busting a gut to appoint him just because he was "permanent"?
-
Three years ago Waggott was scrambling around for weeks trying to find a new manager until Broughton took over the hunt. Begs question will Gestede be any more successful than Waggott.
-
Big Sam would probably say "give me a million quid to keep you up, that's 3 months work for me, but you'll be £10 million worse off if you go down, take it or leave it" I reckon he would take it, but I'm not sure he's the answer and I doubt we'd approach him. Imagine the scenes if did 😄
-
You'd fancy Savage will get an EFL gig at some stage, his record in management so far is very impressive. If we were to go down he'd be a punt at League One level I'm sure, but for now? Would it be a huge risk? I did advocate for Dave Challinor this time last year, could he be a short and long term option should we go down? Are we a better bet than Stockport? 53% win rate in over 800 games in management.
-
He would, but you'd have to offer him an astronomical amount of money.
-
Not permanently. Might until the end of the season on big wages plus his usual massive bonus for staying up. (Despite him saying on Uber Eats(?) "He's done enough". Irrelevant as we probably wouldn't pay.
-
There’s no way we should be looking at Warnock. How many times has he retired now? His heart’s not in it, at the very least we need someone who actively wants to be involved in football
-
What's Ryan Nelsen and Chris Samba up to? Reckon we can lure Roque back for half a season?
-
Realistically would big Sam return? If offered for example

The January 2026 Transfer Window

Sounds just like us in the last 18 months! Out of our 27 players, if you take out Toth, Alebiosu and Gudjohnsen, it's a pretty similar description. -

Let's say we make a really poor appointment again. Why should said manager get universal support? -

Yeah my bad, I was looking at TransferMarket and it looked like they were all signings. -
Having slept on it and if they were prepared to throw a shit ton of money at it I basically agree with the principle but Allardyce or Warnock for this season rather than Mowbray. Wouldn't be against Duff next season (What about the 2 Damien's?) Or if we're going down the ex Rover route, Bellamy (probably wouldn't come) or Savage (might?)

If he gets to 6 games then something has gone horribly wrong in getting a new manager. There should be a focus on getting someone in ASAP, no time for wait and see. We cant go game by game reacting to each result in isolation and as soon as one or two goes wrong then rushing around. Ideally, someone by the weekend.
-
It would do IF (and Im not suggesting he will) he won six on the bounce. He needs to be judged on a game by game basis for the rest of the season. If he loses the next two or three then obviously we would need to make a permanent appointment very quickly. If he did win six on the bounce, what are you going to do, replace him? The only exception to that would be if someone absolutely exceptional became available in the meantime who you didnt think you had any chance of getting. Whilst I dont think we're quite in Chris Coleman territory, not sure that will happen either given our current standing in the game. If Johnson does ok and well enough to keep us up I can't see the problem in him retaining it until the end ofcthe season to give us more time to find the best possible permanent candidate. The indications are he doesnt want it permanently anyway.
-
Surely Will Still is the perfect candidate? He’s used to playing the game with owners that randomly fuck you over by selling your best players.

The other consideration last season was that people were even more angry than now. Eustace was universally liked and had obviously walked due to a lack of support... not only that, he'd gone to a club in the relegation zone in the same league. Whoever the new bloke is, he'll be following in the footsteps of a manager with one of the worst managerial records in our history, and in to a club desperate to stop up. Of course, when all said and done, if it's a total desperado in the mould of Coyle, or one with an appalling journeyman record (like Coleman) the fans will have every right to be underwhelmed, and when that happens, new managers naturally have less rope. It falls on the club to appoint a candidate the fans feel they can actually get behind. -
Good point, that said I'm not sure anyone but Gestede signs off anything these days
