  1. Past hour
  2. Ultimately, if you don't believe that getting rid of venkys would be good for the club then you are wrong. It's that simple. Not a matter of opinion, it's basic facts. What have they improved over the last 15 years? Nothing. What have they made worse over the last 15 years? Everything. To deny that is denying reality and I have absolutely no time for mushrooms who refuse to accept reality. You're in the bin with flat earthers and climate change deniers. The only grounds for compromise are how the fanbase should go about trying to get them out.
  3. Today
  4. Cantwell is the least of our problems
  5. Jamie Smith with another brainless dismissal after another ridiculous innings in which he could have been out 3 or 4 times. Smith represents everything that is wrong with England cricket under McCullum and has gone wrong on this tour. Another one for the axe
  6. The new Dolan. A flair player who works hard and puts up reasonable numbers, but cops a lot of flak from a certain portion of the fanbase when things aren't coming off for him.
  7. CATL, the world's biggest battery maker, with nearly 40% global share of the industry, have announced a new sodium battery. It's over 50% cheaper at present, and they expect it to roughly halve in price again in the next few years as they scale up. So that should result in a drop of thousands in EV costs. Crucially, it's also rated for a 3.6 million mile lifespan! And by that they mean they expect it to still have 85% of its original capacity after 3.6 million miles. So it's a battery that will outlast the car itself, probably a few times over, so can probably have a second life in energy storage or swapped to another car with a failed battery (if we really have failing batteries anymore by then). Sodium is also a far more abundant and more environmentally friendly material to extract than the lithium that most batteries are currently made of. Additionally, it's less flammable so it's safer. This battery can charge better at lower temperatures, and at higher temperatures. It can still work at up to minus 40 degrees celsius, and up to 70 degrees celsius. So realistically, anywhere on Earth. And apparently it charges at almost normal speed at around minus 20. The main problem with sodium batteries has always been the low energy density. Because they couldn't store as much per kg they were heavier for the same energy, which of course reduces range. But this battery has a 175 Wh per kg density, which is actually higher than one of BYD's new blade batteries (the short form, at 160 Wh, which is designed for faster charging - the long form has 210 Wh but charges slower) which were only released this year and improved on the prior generation which maxed at 150 Wh per kg. So cars with these batteries would also have more range than the majority of BYD cars on the road these days. Ahh maybe the charging speed sucks? Nope, 0% to 80% in 15 minutes at room temperature. Which is better than most EVs on the road now can do (30 mins is typical), albeit not as fast as some of the latest LFPs which can charge in 5. This seems to be a game changer, and coming from a massive company who don't bullshit about what their batteries can do. It also could have huge implication for renewables in general, as a battery that lasts 5 times longer and costs half as much could help revolutionise storage of renewable energy to reduce the relevance of intermittency.
  8. If someone at this point still believes we are better off with Venkys than without, against a 15 year in the making, huge mountain of evidence, then it's as if they're speaking a completely different language or living in a different reality from my perspective. I can't see how the two opposing views are even mutually intelligible. I don't know what constructive dialogue there is to have. Common ground also sounds like compromise, which is important in some areas of life, but I personally wouldn't be prepared to compromise on the view that the club should be rid of these owners tomorrow, there's no way I can climb down from that. What does a common ground approach look like? I don't think many people who want them out are prepared to water down their view on the Venkys, so I'm not sure where to start on common ground. What do you think?
  9. I said it in summer McLoughlin wasn't good enough as a regular starter when we signed him and he hasn't done anything to make me think differently. We downgraded recklessly on deadline day at centre back and it's predictably disrupted the entire season (along with a lack of investment years prior in attack and the pitch). McLoughlin was brought in because we wouldn't spend the money needed in that position - however, originally alongside Hyam which softened the blow. The lack of quote "significant investment" is hindering everything, including formation and flexibility during games. I'm not a fan of playing 3 centre backs at home (not without good attacking wingbacks on each side)... but I'm probably only comfortable with 3 centre backs if McLoughlin is 1 of them since he isn't commanding enough aerially in a back 2. I expected Rovers to spend a good chunk of the Hyam fee on a longterm replacement as soon as this window opened, since that was the only way to justify their idiocy. It doesn't look like they'll be doing so and instead are spending some of the profit on a 6 month loan in his position! "The board" and Gestede absolutely deserve relegation this season. They've worked hard on all the ingredients.
  10. Us and Wednesday are the two worst sides in the division. So a third side to join us in relegation. Oxford, Portsmouth, Norwich?
  11. Yesterday
  12. I think part of the frustration for me is I’ve seen how good he can be and he still seems a shadow of that player.
  13. Pleased we managed to get a point from 2-0 down. Must be a long time since we did that. Defensively we looked woeful though. 3421 puts so much athletic pressure on the wing backs - and we had two who just couldnt cover the necessary ground. A better side than Charlton would have absolutely buried us. Ismael took a long time to get to 352 when we did have the right players and now seems to not want to change when we dont.
  14. Cantwell was our main goal threat pre injury
  15. Atcheson has something about him for sure! Never known so many youngsters step up in one season. Guess they can see the dross ahead of them and gained confidence. Another game left to rue bad ref decisions as we weren't good enough
  16. I have done the same. I think you are right.
  17. Eloquent post. @chaddyrovers I’m tagging you deliberately because you’ve explained why the boycott doesn’t work for you and you’re exactly the kind of committed match going supporter the coalition would need on side to have a huge impact. Setting aside past arguments and personalities, I’d genuinely like to ask this in practical terms. If this were a straight “how could the coalition get you onside?” question, what one or two specific actions or commitments from the coalition would make you more willing to engage with it? Not necessarily to agree with everything, but enough to feel it was moving in a direction you could support. I’m not asking why you don’t back it now and I’m not asking you to defend your position. I’m asking what would actually change things for you. If the coalition wants to grow beyond its current base, understanding what would persuade supporters like you feels far more important than winning another argument.
  18. Fair comment. As said - personal dislike can colour the view too much. Think he has a lot of ability but doesn’t deliver enough
  19. He does actually try things though. Such as the quality for the goal shortly after. He is a soft arse and he isnt a captain for me but I cant see anyone I would drop him for.
  20. I feel that Cantwell is an easy target for some. Maybe it's unconscious bias or something. But he has the quality that most of the squad doesn't have and works harder than most of them as well. Yes, he's shit sometimes, but in terms of pointing fingers at players this season, he wouldn't be near to the front of the line for me.
  21. Lets hope there isn't another Kaminsky situation brewing.
  22. At 2-0 down he tried to run through 5 of their players, lost the ball, sulked, and didn’t track back as Charlton broke. He does it regularly unfortunately
  23. Bench for who? He was crap v Wrexham but much better today. He also did make something happen for the first with an excellent cross.
  24. The last few pages demonstrate, to my mind at least, why the coalition remains a minority group. Endless circular arguments with Chaddy, rage-hating on fans who express a different opinion as tools or club plants, and no surrender from a maximalist set of views are not, I would contend, the way to build a mass, movement that the majority of fans can get behind. Rather than seek to demolish contrary opinions, looking for common ground might be more effective. For example, yes we had 20,000+ crowds per-Venky’s but that was in the Premier League. Ironically, if we were in the Premier League, crowds wouldn’t matter any more eg Bournemouth, Brentford, Bumley etc., The notion that there are 10-15,000 people desperate to come back once Venky’s eff off ignores that fact that many of them have moved away, died, lost interest etc plus that the hopper has not been filled with new young fans at previous rates for 15 years. In other words, it’s a complex multi-faceted issue that’s not black or white, and that’s before you get to pricing, sponsorship etc etc. The coalition cannot achieve its aims if it cannot engage with the stayaways, the die-hards and the people who currently disagree with it. “How do we get bigger” should, in my opinion, take precedence over “how do we get airtime?” The latter may well play a role, but it’s not an end in itself.
  25. He was one of our better players today, his cross for the first was excellent and he is hindered by a lack of technical ability around him. I don't buy the idea that he is a "luxury player" either. He does work harder than his image might suggest. I am not saying that he always is effective, he was really poor v Wrexham, and he is not a good striker of the ball in terms of scoring goals. But we shouldnt stop selecting him.
  26. Five year deal and I'm there. I promise I won't mention Suhail by name.
  27. Gudjohnsen and Ohashi were just looking like starting a partnership when Gudjohnsen got injured.
