roversmum Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Wasn't that what was offered and turned down?

b12_simon Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Yakubu deal agreed with Everton - medical tomorrow. Fee an astonishing £11.25 million. The world's gone mad!
Sandiway Blue Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I think £4m is fair enough in this current market when you look at some of the deals done. Chopra £5m Richardson £5.5m koumas £5.3m Sorry but i wouldn`t have any of them at Rovers, but i would keep Roberts until the end of the season at least.
bluebruce Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I'd have taken Koumas, just not at that price. More shocking examples are Darren Bent 16.5 million and untested keeper Craig Gordon for 8 million. And Nugent of course. Ooh, and Kenwyne Jones- Championship defender recently converted to striker, now having bids of over 5.5 million rejected in his name.
revolutionrock! Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I'd have taken Koumas, just not at that price. Yeh , i would have Koumas for about 2m. Would have been good back up for CM.
frosty Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Last I heard it was £4m. I'd happily take that. He's 29/30 now and not going to improve or get any quicker.
Eddie Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Yakubu deal agreed with Everton - medical tomorrow. Fee an astonishing £11.25 million. I suppose there is a chance he will make his debut on Saturday. If he plays like he did at Wigan last week that would probably be a bonus for you. For me that's a better deal than Spurs got for Bent. If he plays then he is sure to score against us.
American Rover12 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Sorry but i wouldn`t have any of them at Rovers, but i would keep Roberts until the end of the season at least. You're right, when the season gets into full swing, having Roberts around is going to come in handy.
tcj_jones Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Personally, I think Yakubu is one of the top ten strikers in the Premiership who is always going to score goals and be near the top of the goal scoring charts. He has incredible power and pace as well. I think he's just stagnated along with the entire 'Boro team. He'll soon pick up again in a better team. For me, £11m isn't all that bad.
Eddie Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I agree. I certainly wouldn't have been upset if he had come here, even for that price.
Fife Rover Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I'd have taken Koumas, just not at that price. More shocking examples are Darren Bent 16.5 million and untested keeper Craig Gordon for 8 million. And Nugent of course. Ooh, and Kenwyne Jones- Championship defender recently converted to striker, now having bids of over 5.5 million rejected in his name. I would not describe Craig Gordon as untested. He has been Hearts no.1 keeper for several seasons and Scotlands best for many a year. I am absolutely confident that he will turn out to be a top keeper even in the EPL.
Sandiway Blue Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I would not describe Craig Gordon as untried. He has been Hearts no.1 keeper for several seasons and Scotlands best for many a year. I am absolutely confident that he will turn out to be a top keeper even in the EPL. I know i will get slated for this but here goes: there are many players who have looked outstanding in Scotland but average in England such as Barry Ferguson, now i`m not saying Gordon won`t be a success (i hope he is) but as far as facing quality week in week out,in that respect it will be interesting to see if he makes that step up. I think £9m is a huge amount for a keeper not really tested at the highest level.
1864roverite Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Can anyone really beleive we have a world class Scottish keeper at Sunderland ? The stock answer is no. He may have been a good goalie in the SPL but since when has that league had an abundance of quality strikers testing him ? Again a resounding answer in the negative. Gordon is not worth anything like 9m pounds and for me its a seriously over inflated price. We all thought Fergie was our godsend and that he would rule the roost for Rovers, he had the odd good game and then found his depth, back in the SPL. The extra tv money has seen an upsurge in home grown transfer fees it as simple as that. In looking at Sunderland, we see 5.5m on Chopra, 9m on Gordon and then we see them quoted something like 5.5m for Kenwyne Jones at Southampton. Over at Ewood we see 350k for Rigters and 3.5m for a truly world class striker with a proven record in RSC. Makes you think about the decision making of the men behind the scenes at SAFC, because not one of their signings if sold in the future will bring a bigger transfer fee.
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Yakubu deal agreed with Everton - medical tomorrow. Fee an astonishing £11.25 million. Id take 2.5m Then you're a bit daft. Correct bluebruce. That Yakuba deal has more than likely increased Robert's value by about 30-50%. We need to be asking 6m now.
John Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I would be tempted to sell Roberts for £5-6 million. I think he will be useful to have over a long season, but he frustrates me with his poor first touch and also by his poor finishing. He is a mid-table quality striker.
tony gale's mic Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 3.5m for a truly world class striker with a proven record in RSC. as encouraged as i've been by roque's start to the season, he hasnt shown himself to be 'truly world class' in his career so far and he doesnt have a 'proven record' by any stretch of the imagination. however, there could have been all sorts of reasons why he didnt produce the goods at bayern and it is possible, especially after his start, that he could really do the business here.
bonerdude Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Hi there nicko, this is my first post on these boards after reading them for all summer long. i would like to say thank you for you input over the summer it has made a normally boring summer somewhat interesting with your insight. Is there any news on any loan deal players hughes normally snaps up on transfer deadline day, and also is there anyone else interested in buying rovers other this dan williams guy.(kinda get feeling i should be asking in other thread). hope you are well and keep up the good work nicko.
Eddie Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Makes you think about the decision making of the men behind the scenes at SAFC, because not one of their signings if sold in the future will bring a bigger transfer fee. That's not true, you can't say that. If Chopra scores 12-15 goals this season then he will have been worth it. He has 2 good goals so far, so I'd imagine he'll probably hit a decent number.
Ozz Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 What an unfortunate name. I don't think he/she was christened Bonerdude Eddie. But if he/she was, a bet that was a laugh!
broadsword Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 "Bonerdude Eddie" Now that would be a strange name. :-)
vintageadidas Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Nicko - was just wondering if you have ever come across a concrete bid for Brad from any club in the Premiership while he has been playing for Rovers. He is undoubtedly one of the best keepers in the league and surely a top 4 team has sniffed and even tested the water?? Also, i hear a certain Championship manager likes a drink before, after and even during training. Maybe borderline alcoholic.
