Trying just isnt good enough!

Out of their depth in the transfer market...........again!

This is exactly the same as January!Lack of signings then cost us a european place!

God knows what it will cost us this time!

Robinson

Grella

Villanueva

Andrews

Bunn

J Santa Cruz

Simpson

Fowler???????

Sorry I know people will disagree but these signings just arent

good enough collectively! We've been out done by near enough

everyone apart from Everton in the Market! Weve bought players we just dont need!

Yeh I agree - our centre midfield was so strong - and our best midfield player was only 37. And why bother replacing Friedel - what a waste of money - far better to see Brown watching free kicks fly in over his head. BTW - did you see Villanueva at the Grimsby match ?

When Paul Robinson joined us he said he was "excited at the sort of players we were trying to bring in" since then we have signed Andrews, grella and bunn. Surely the players mentioned to Robbo were not these- so why haven't we been able to sign anyone? Too much time messing around with trials for fowler, castillo, Annan NONE of which address our main need of a right winger.

Someone should have forced Ince to sit through videos of the 04/05/06 seasons to appreciate how ordinary Emerton is at RW.

What is everyone obsession with right wing ?

Last year we had a weak centre-mid, but strong right wing. This year - centre mid is looking far stronger - and Reid only offer a workmanlike alternative. BUT - we have the huge potential of King Carlos - and at last we have a left winger who looks ready to challenge MGP for the left wing spot. So overall I would say we are still slightly stronger.

Unless we were going to get an improvment on Reid or Emerton - what is the point of wasting money ?

Though you wouldn't think so - Britain is on the verge of a recession - it will hit football clubs at some point ! The liklihood is that it will hit clubs in already poor areas (i.e. Rovers) the hardest. I'm not saying don't spend the money - but we have to spend wisely - if that the ideal player isn't currently available, why throw money away just to appease fans hungry for a so-called "big name" signing ?

Spot On! Also with the credit crunch biting even harder in January, clubs who have borrowed millions maybe desperate to get players off their books. Over priced now might be available at half price in January. Hopefully Rovers will be in position to take advantage in January.

Before I get the doom mongerers having a go at me....I am trying to put a positive spin on us not making a right winger.

Two points here - neither Reid nor Emerton can play right wing. Reid has no pace, skill or crossing ability, and we saw Bert struggle for three years before we decided to put him at right back, i.e his actual position. A lot of RSC's success stems from good crosses - something which looks unlikely now we have nothing coming from the right, and MGP continuing to underachieve.

Second, our midfield is strong in theory, but does Pince really know who his first choice CM's are? We have so many to choose from, none of whom really stand out apart from Dunn who is injury prone. Whenever you sign somebody you hope that the players are going to be better than the ones you already have - do any of our signings this year fall into that category? Obviously it will take time to discover that, but on paper and with the first few games down, it seems unlikely.

Well creativity hasn't really been our peoblem so far, the defence has. But on the other hand we haven't really had decent opposition.

Depleted Everton side.

Ropey Hull side.

Out-of-form West Ham side.

The Arsenal (who were superb the other day) game could give a better indication as to how much we're going to struggle :(

lol you know what is the oddest part.. name the bottom five clubs in spending this pre-season.. we have played 3 of them.. and we are another one.. just manure and you have the leagues cheapie teams..

Easy Nicko, I'm a fan of your scoops... just posting what some people may not have seen.

Sorry for being ratty, but it's hard enough getting the tales without some of the garbage around tonight,

Sky's latest 'scoop' is Robinho is still in Spain...and, by the way, Spurs have STILL not accepted Man U's bid for the Bulgarian.

This all utterly bizarre and slightly obscene.

what a load of balls. The club has let everyone down yet again and showed what a lack of ambition it has. Absolutly ridiculous that we have no right winger when we have had months to do a deal.

We're going to have problems this season.

We have a defence that leaks like an incontinent old lady, a goalkeeper whos confidence is shot through, and no right winger who has a shead of talent in the position. Some of these issues could have been solved in the two months we've had, but whether its incompetance or laziness, we're still in the same awful position. We had the money to solve our problems, we've done nothing. Bad play by Ince, Williams and the rest of the board.

not happy. I wonder what will be said at the fans forum tomorrow

Yes i did.......... against Grimsby FFS! :D

Hope he is a good signing! But if our saving grace is one performance vs Grimsby!

You know what i mean?

Sorry.Probably being a bit over the top! Its just we always seem to be let down!

Man city, tottenham, Aston Villa all spending money on decent players etc

Given that Ince has gone on record as saying he likes his sides to play with pace you would've thought he'd have wanted to address the obvious lack of it throughout the side.

We were also told that the recruitment of a specialist right back was a priority.Whilst Simpson may have potential he clearly isn't the finished article or he'd be an automatic pick.

As others have said, references to 'keeping our powder dry' and 'refusing to panic buy' are also wearing very thin.

Yes...all big city clubs with big fan bases.....not small town club with small fan base with VERY limited resouces. Time for a reality check I think

So that's 5 million compo for Hughes, 1.5million for Savage, 2.5 million for Friedel, let's say 8 million for Bentley and 3 million from the trustees. Add that to transfer funds allocated of 5million? So that makes 25 million.

Take away 3.5 million for Robinson, 5 million for Grella and Andrews and another 2 million (highly inflated) for increased wages leaving us with a net total of 14.5 million. Even taking away the trustees input we still have 10 million + yet a good 3 months after knowing our most creative player was leaving, he's not been replaced.

Now we're hearing that the deal has to be right for the club when SWP has gone begging and players such as Joaquin, Lennon, Pennant and Kightly have been left on the shelf (all of whom would be a BIG improvement on Emerton or Reid) and were within our budget.

We're left with a squad woefully short on creativity and a decreasing fanbase becoming more and more cynical in regard to the ambition of the board and future of the club in general.

I'll continue to support this great club of ours come what may but tonight I'm bitterly disappointed and to be honest, I fear for us.

Hey, having said all that, there's still 45 minutes to go....

Bentley money

Original transfer kitty

Hughes cash!

Reality check maybe when we find out where the money has gone!

With this and your other post, you're making it sound like we've brought in genuine quality to the midfield over the summer. The reality is, we've sold one of the most creative players in the league (certainly in terms of assists) and replaced him with a mid-lower table Serie A water-carrier, a player who's only ever performed well in League Two, and an unproven South American who will take time to adjust.

I could accept the lack of right sided player if we'd brought in quality elsewhere, but we haven't. Man City showed what the addition of an exciting winger can instantly bring to a team, I seriously think you're underplaying how much it's going to effect us having crap out there compared to last season.

I seem to remember JW saying Rovers needed average gates of over 25,000 to break even. Rovers have not had for several seasons now. I suggest this has been eating into budget somewhat
