Miker Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 The problem with waiting 'till November is that by then we may be last, the player's confidence may be shot to pieces and the "winnable games" become mountains as well. This is why the first 5 of this season were so important - so we have something to hold on through the October beatings. And as for Sam and his expectations...the man left Bolton because he wanted to "win trophies". I'd wager it's quite the hard pill for him to swallow now that he has to concentrate his dreams back only to survival. So what's the solution? Sack Sam now? Criticise him every step of the way? I think the people on here are wrong when they say Sam won't try to win those games in October. He'll try to do all he can, but let's face it... that period will be the hardest period of games we have all season. Just because we lose them doesn't prove anything. I don't think the players will fall into a demoralising depression because they lost to the best teams in the league away. 10 games seriously don't decide a season, Spurs last season were a testament to that. You can pick up 2 points over a period of 10 games, but then still get into the top 10 by the end of the season. Any manager has high ambitions and wants to be at a club that is challenging for trophies. I'm sure any manager would jump at the chance to work at Man U if they were offered the job. I think that's why most people have a problem with Sam, they think he's not committed to the club and is only here to prove a point to his critics. I can understand why people see him like that based on his interviews, but it's only a matter of perception.

Hughesy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 But according to Allardyce that's how they practise taking that kind of freekick, because of the chance of a deflection into the net and because if you get it just inside the post it's unstoppable anyway. The only thing is having a player with the ability to find that far corner - step up Mr Benedict McCarthy Common sense isnt it - make sure it can swing into the far corner.....if it can then it can just loop in, if not - a little nick and it can be in also, or it can be knocked in by your own defender. Really hard to defend against!
thenodrog Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hughsey, had you seen the goal when you posted this? It was a 25 yard ball into the box which evaded everyone and ended up in the bottom corner. There was a certain amount of luck on it going straight in. From that position Benny is excellent. He really gets whip and swerve on them whilst keeping them under the bar. He's been taking them since he thundered one against the post against Bolton(?) last season if I rem correctly
Hughesy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Emerton should be the next choice - he doesnt take a bad one either
waggy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 after his shirts up for grabs comments on monday are we going to see changes on saturday?or will sam stick with his favourites
47er Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Can't believe that after 5 games some people are wondering who the replacement manager should be!!!!!! Perhaps we should dedicate our entire Sky money to compensation.
gazsimm Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 after his shirts up for grabs comments on monday are we going to see changes on saturday?or will sam stick with his favourites nice to see you call our manager Sam for a change! I think sam might play a few from the team last night, like Benni, Emerton, Nelson and maybe even N'zoni or Junior.

I think sam might play a few from the team last night, like Benni, Emerton, Nelson and maybe even N'zoni or Junior. Why should anyone call the manager by his first name? Nobody referred to Hughes as Mark or Souness as Graeme, or at least nobody who doesn't know them personally. I'll admit that waggy's usual form of address is not acceptable either but i can't understand fans on here using his first name either.

gumboots Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 ok allardyce if you like!, anything it better then 'Lardarse' which Waggy types on his sticky keyboard everyday! Sorry that sounded like I was being really snotty about it and I wasn't. It's just he's one of the few managers that everyone seems to call by their first name and I was suddenly intrigued as to why!
mellison24 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I think we call him Sam because his nickname is 'Big Sam'. Other managers either have a nickname (which they are therefore called by) or don't and are referred to by their surname. Sam's first name being part of his nickname is probably why he get's called Sam.
thenodrog Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Obvious innit? SA or Sam is darn sight easier and quicker to type than Allardyce ...... (or even lardarse as waggy appears to have found out.)

thenodrog Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Mark is shorter than Hughes but we'd never have done it! Hence much use of 'sparky'. Anyway how about 'Kenny' or KMD?
gumboots Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Hence much use of 'sparky'. Anyway how about 'Kenny' or KMD? Being pedantic sparky is the same length as Hughes! And I was too busy having kids in the Dalglish era to even know what day of the week it was

spencey7 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I cannot believe no-one has posted this. Allardyce's opening post-match comment following the Goodison Massacre: We're a pretty side, but we've got no resilience away from home. Video embedded here. What planet does this man live on?
waggy Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 todays team selection is vital, will he play spit?will he bring back some of the old guard, will he stick with saldaogo, what i want is a positive result, that means a win to a very good display
LeChuck Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I always thought the Allardyce topic would end up with waggy just rambling away to himself...
waggy Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I always thought the Allardyce topic would end up with waggy just rambling away to himself... by the time i come on here on monday this topic will be pages ahead
joey_big_nose Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Big kudos to Sam today: 1) Got the tatics perfect, absolutely negating Villa. We dominated second half. 2) Although there was a fair bit of hoof ball (especially in the first half) we also got the ball down and played through Dunn and Diouf. It was very entertaining. 3) Lars Jacobsen, NZonzi, Diouf and Di Santo were all immense. Chimbonda was also good. Still massive question marks over Kalinic and Salgado, but his signings for the money outlayed look excellent. He needed a result, but Rovers achieved it in some style.
Backroom DE. A positive win and a very good display. Going to give Sam praise where it's due?
Backroom Tom Posted September 26, 2009 Backroom Posted September 26, 2009 I think the team selection was right today but have to say Sam got lucky, it was clear to anyone Grella should have been off for Emo at half time as he was on a booking early.
1864roverite Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Waggy you and your strop missed a cracking game to day. The only hoofball team on show was the opposition mate. 2-1 to Sam and the boys read it and weep.
