nicko Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 You're forgetting that the club has cutting the wage bill as a priority. The wage bill cut may have to be re-addressed in the light of Roque's departure. It's a whole new budget surely. However Bent simply isn't worth what he would cost. That would be total madness.

Hughesy Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. We wont pay over 5m for a 32 year old.
RovertheHill Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. We wont pay over 5m for a 32 year old. I have no reason to doubt Nicko but i'm with you. I'll be gobsmacked if we pay that much for him. Anything under £2m would be good business though
nicko Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 and 5 million on Kevin Davies is fine is it Nicko! Cmon you winding us up on this one It's what it's going to take - at least.

However Bent simply isn't worth what he would cost. That would be total madness. It has to be said Nicko. You are really getting on my nerves about this issue! Investing £7 million on a 25 year old England International striker with saleability in the future is total madness. But investing £5million plus on a 32 year old non International, with no saleability is a good idea. Oh and the goalscoring issue: Darren Bent: 99 goals in 248 games (AGE 25) Kevin Davies: 91 goals in 479 games (AGE 32) Who's the better striker!?
joey_big_nose Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 It's what it's going to take - at least. Then i don't think it will happen. If Sam was willing to pay that much, which I doubt, I'm sure JW wouldn't sanction it. He has taken an aggressive stance on slashing the wage bill. He is hardly going to sanction 5 million on a 32 year old.

But investing £5million plus on a 32 year old non International, with no saleability is a good idea. Get real. Get realistic. Bent is a £26 million deal with fee and wages. Where you get these figures from at £7 million I really don't know. Where are Rovers going to find that kind of cash? In the real world...

Where are Rovers going to find the £5 million plus wages for Davies now, and then his replacement when he's not good enough, retired or we been relegated as he is cack.

JAL Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 The feelgood factor that flowed at the end of last season has all but ebbed away Sack the board !
J*B Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Nicko's getting angry! Lets blow them both off and sign Heskey!
john-rover Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 nicko no disrespect, but i think your taking the pi*s to be honest! you try and make us realise that davies would be a great idea, when most of us are sick when we see the sight of him! football should surely be about pleasing fans, and signing davies would empty ewood park in one clean sweep! imo it shows a complete lack of ambition for allardyce to go back to old ways, 5million pounds is a fair chunk of money and culd be better spent than on an ageing lump called Kevin "pie man" Davies.
nicko Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 lets be honest Santa Cruz and Derbyshire vs Di Santo and Davies...... its an unbelievable step backwards Santa Cruz didn't play much last season and doesn't want to be there. You got an awful lot of money for him. Derbyshire had his chance and wasn't in the manager's plans. You are getting more for him than you could have dreamt of. Rejoice. nicko no disrespect, but i think your taking the pi*s to be honest! you try and make us realise that davies would be a great idea, when most of us are sick when we see the sight of him! football should surely be about pleasing fans, and signing davies would empty ewood park in one clean sweep! imo it shows a complete lack of ambition for allardyce to go back to old ways, 5million pounds is a fair chunk of money and culd be better spent than on an ageing lump called Kevin "pie man" Davies. None taken. Just one question...when did you last see him play?
Amo Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Santa Cruz didn't play much last season and doesn't want to be there. You got an awful lot of money for him. And if we want to repeat such coups, we shouldn't blow 1/3 of that on 32 year olds.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Ever heard of someone called Roque Santa Cruz? Yep. and i would rather we didn't waste that money! Just one question...when did you last see him play? Unless he has had age reversal therapy, i couldn't give a damn if he played a man of the match performance 5 games in a row which i watched. I DO NOT WANT HIM BACK AT ROVERS
john-rover Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 twice a year against us, and whenever i can be arsed to watch match of the day!, every single person i know hated bolton under allardyce for the way they played! its shi*e to watch! i just dont want rovers to spend alot of money to play that type football. £12.5m on Kevin Davies. Beggars belief. where has that figure come from?
jannerman Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 On a more interesting note, if that card-mark is from 'upstairs' we could have an interesting discussion coming up within the club when Sam gets back. Are you inferring that Sam will be annoyed if he feels he's being restricted from board level? I'm a senior manager of my company, they trust me to do things in the interest of the company - but if I wanted to make a decision that was disagreed with I will not be permitted from making it, simple as....and that's their right at the end of the day. Irrespective of the quality of the player surely 5m + wages + very little resale value might be a worry Of course if the signing is made and it "buys" us a few places it'll be money worth spending Although I think, like a few others here, that there does need to be more investment in youth, either that or sell the academy and raise some more cash for players. Wouldn't like to be a football manager having to persuade the board - servers are much easier to justify!
Hi Mack Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 And if we want to repeat such coups, we shouldn't blow 1/3 of that on 32 year olds. Right, weve got 21M in the last week, I would be very suprised if we spend 10M of that. If we get Davies it will be for no less than 5M, Bolton dont need to sell him and know we've just got the RSC money. I was hoping for a better option than Davies, theres going to be alot of dissapointed fans. RSC out Davies in? That is silly! Just wonder IF Bolton say "No" who will we then turn our attentions to? Bent, Janko,Zigic?????? A little Worried to be honest.
Presty On Tour Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Santa Cruz didn't play much last season and doesn't want to be there. You got an awful lot of money for him. Derbyshire had his chance and wasn't in the manager's plans. You are getting more for him than you could have dreamt of. Rejoice. None taken. Just one question...when did you last see him play? Agreed but what we do with the money is essential as it will ultimately determine our season. Davies is not what the majority want as he was largely responsible for us getting relegated and then couldn't fire us back up the season after. He is Bolton captain and has it easy at the Reebok. Why would he want to return to where he played the worst football of his career? It will never happen and if Sam did ask JW about Pie Boy Davies then I hope JW would of put him straight. We are or I hope we are much more ambitious and can sign better players than Davies.
imy9 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Yep. and i would rather we didn't waste that money! Unless he has had age reversal therapy, i couldn't give a damn if he played a man of the match performance 5 games in a row which i watched.I DO NOT WANT HIM BACK AT ROVERS Thats the part I dont understand, if Davies plays well and helps us progress up the league, the money would be worth it! We spent £3.5 million on Savage, what was his resale value? Ooijer?
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Thats the part I dont understand, if Davies plays well and helps us progress up the league, the money would be worth it! We spent £3.5 million on Savage, what was his resale value? Ooijer? Savage and Ooijer weren't purchased to score goals. Davies is. His scoring record is not good enough, and even if it was, we would only have it for 2 years. Goals win games. With Benni and Roberts, the one thing we need is pace and creativity. Davies doesn't offer either of those 2 things.
