Rover down South Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 "I know something... i watch this board continuously and can tell there are only about 3 people who know something for definite. The rest seems to be conjecture and wishful thinking!" Nicko & Unleaded are two of the three for sure. It annoys me when others pretend to be in the know (there are not many, but a few who try to gain attention & become popular) Anyway talking of Nicko, he has been very quiet of late, surely something must be happening or has Mrs Nicko taken control of his laptop. Great minds think alike TCO

The Rover of Finland Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Why is Nicko so quiet? Absolutely nothing to tell? This very boring board right now.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Shamakh remains a target for Wenger Think there is going to be too much competition for us to try and bring him in, if Arsenal are looking then no doubt some other good clubs are as well, definitely seems like a longshot for us.
my_name_is_Earl Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 If we sign someone and he's off next summer that would mean he's done a good job more than likely and we'd make a profit, I'm happy with that. Well I guess that is fair enough, though to be honest, it kind of kills the whole thing a bit for me if we have to do this every summer. Getting a good deal on a player, selling him, bank the money, no progress......(repeats). The ideal situation for a club like ours would be to galvanise the squad with loyalty. In other words, sign up players who would love to play for the club and will do anything to make sure they didn't let their mates down in the rest of the squad. I'd rather have a squad full of Jason Roberts' then Santa Cruz because at least you know they care about the club. Another method is to buy young and then in a few years unless we get a great deal on them, we'll have their full undivided loyalty. Sam needs to take a few more risks for me on younger players who won't cost as much but have decent enough potential to be premiership first team players though obviously thats a little hit and miss. Owen Coyle dare I say is adopting the perfect strategy in his planning. I think Burnley will go down quite comfortably come the end of the season but at least he's investing what little he has on younger players who already have a reputation as potentially very good footballers. For the size of their club, thats not half bad at all. Instead of hearing about all these big time charlies who love their egos being stroked and linking themselves with every club in Europe, i'd rather have a Kevin Davies who will put his foot in where it hurts.
philipl Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 BRFC is not exactly an enclosed order of nuns is it? Therefore there are lots of people in the know and lots who genuinely think they are in the know and lots more who might not be. Saying only nicko and unleaded have anything worth saying is as disingenuous as believing everything written by vinjay. The only thing I "know" at Rovers is that the players are extremely happy footballers and very impressed by the pre-season set-up which is incredibly professional and as much fun as something like that can be whilst getting the real work done. That info has come independently from four people who happen to post on here so the chances are its correct. By way of contrast, this time last year I had about eight people twisting my ear with horror stories about Ince, Matthias and Knox and that included far more detail about particular instances. If you remember the board divided between the Incophiles and some others who were desperately trying to say we have a total disaster ion our hands without giving details which the press would use against our club. So I wouldn't knock saviola. Anyone sufficiently interested to post on here by definition has motivation and knowledge how to find out stuff behind the scenes. A simple deduction- players and Sam back in the UK with no games for a week plus JW due back from hols would suggest the club will start bidding this week if they have a bidable target. I have no leads on who we might go for but I rather like the look of Chamaque the more clips I see of him. But there again with careful editing, you could have a video of Barton walking down a street without beating anyone up so anything is possible using desk top tools.
thenodrog Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Anyway talking of Nicko, he has been very quiet of late, surely something must be happening or has Mrs Nicko taken control of his laptop. Oooh err Matron!
thenodrog Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 On football matters you usually get things right. How strange... Dunno if thats a compliment or not macca..... but I'll cautiously take it as one. BUT have you ever thought that it might not be me but rather that you might not be able to see the wood for the trees on other issues?
Bazzanotsogreat Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Funny, this exactly what Ince was thinking this time last year about Carlos Villanueva. Poor comparison. Villanueva was an unknown talent playing in the Chilean league. Chamakh is a regular Champions league striker being chased by Arsenal. Complete different pedigree IMO
gumboots Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Perhaps, but his team hadn't won the French league, the first to beat Lyon to it in seven(?) seasons.
nicko Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Arsenal admitting they want Chamakh tells me they are clear favourites...the boy himself has been rambling about other clubs, but if the Gunners come in then he will go there...that's just the way it is. Yes, it's quiet - but that's because so many clubs are away and playing friendlies. And yes I've been quiet because something has come up that needs a bit of attention. No point gibbering on just now when we know that the manager has his targets and is waiting for them to be available to him at the right overall price.
Paul Mellelieu Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Dunno if thats a compliment or not macca..... but I'll cautiously take it as one. BUT have you ever thought that it might not be me but rather that you might not be able to see the wood for the trees on other issues? No.

Exactly what I said but in his latest interview, Wenger has said he's "keeping an eye on him" and "if we decide to bring in a striker, he's one we'll be looking at". From his interview in Lequipe, I get the impression he doesn't want to hang about and although Arsenal would be his club of choice, he doesn't want to be messed about by them to the extent where he may end up being stuck at Bordeaux when he clearly wants to leave. He'll probably still end up there but perhaps not.
TheNews Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Evening Nicko Do you think we could be looking at Pompey for some bargins? Client of mine who is Pompey STH says this take over is now worring them as they owe loads of money to a couple of creditors that are getting itchy for their money, guessing one is the Vat/Taxman.

I don't think there is anything left to take... Portsmouth have some big bills coming up, so the takeover had better happen. Shambles all round.
Kelbo Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Unlike Harry to leave a club in turmoil...... If he shafts a club he does it right does 'appy arry'
67splitscreen Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Speaking of Pompey. Thomas on a free. Worth a go or not, assuming he has the all clear to resume his career. I'm FREEeeeeee

Sorry if it came across that way, what I mean is those 2 are cosistently accurate enough with their info I would never say only those 2 posters are worth taking notice of, but on transfer news they carry more clout than others without source. For what its worth I really hope Saviola is right but I wont hold my breath for now. A lot of the time rumours are unfounded but not always I suppose.
Stuart Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 And interesting to see Moritz Volz is a free agent too. Always rate him. I'd have taken him in a flash at right-back over Jacobsen. Got to love that guy... www.volzy.com
Hi Mack Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 And interesting to see Moritz Volz is a free agent too. Always rate him. I'd have taken him in a flash at right-back over Jacobsen. Never maintained his early promise when at Arsenal. Went Fulham and struggled then im sure he went Ipswich on Loan. I think Jacobson will be the better of the two!
ben_the_beast Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 And interesting to see Moritz Volz is a free agent too. Always rate him. I'd have taken him in a flash at right-back over Jacobsen. Has been said on here once before i think but his name is a fantastic name to shout if your mad. VOLZ!!
Hi Mack Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I thought he was a favourite with their fans. Maybe I'm missing something but he always seemed quality whenever I've seen him play. Maybe ffan can shed some light if he's still around. Kuqi was a fans favourite here! Too be fair didnt see him much at Fulham but with him being loaned to Ipswich i just presumed he was struggling. Unless he just fell out with Roy!
LessThanJake Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I don't think there is anything left to take... Portsmouth have some big bills coming up, so the takeover had better happen. Shambles all round. just Kranjcar and Distin, though the latter is joining Villa afaik. I think Bremen were sniffing around Kranjcar as well.

Unless he just fell out with Roy! I will never forget that match Volz played away at Fratton Park where if it could go wrong it did, including going down that drop into the Portsmouth fans. Think he got 2 bad injuries too. It was so awful it was funny.
