RoversSG Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Does anyone know the status of the brazilian trialist? From what nicko said about him, i would have thought he will be a done deal.

Ricky Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Wonder if nicko will return to this site. I wonder if the Ellington thing was a phishing excercise. He went off lone soon after that. I also noticed it appeared in the sun on the same day as his story was in the mirror. Made me wonder if he had put the story out there to see if any other journos were on here looking for rovers stories. May be completely wrong
roversmad95 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 glad we didnt go for viduka he wants a 2 year deal at 40k a week.... crazy.... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...mouth-cash.html
Kelbo Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 After watching Newcastle yesterday, I was quite impressed with Alan Smith, gavethe ball away only twice throughout the game but controlled midfield with a really good range of passing, always available and worked hard, quite surprised, if he could maintain that kind of form he would be great for Rovers!!

Someone guessed the name and were pretty confident about it. B. There was another "exclusive" that he didn't tell us before deadline but came out in the Sun at the same time as the Mirror (Kalnic?). Just shows me that the Sun has some pretty good sources as well.

May be completely wrong Very interesting - shame if its true though, as that means what we have been getting for the last couple of years will disappear ! If there is some truth in that, hopefully he will let us know. But on the flip side, he could be away on holiday, on a freelance scouting mission for his pal, going for an op etc etc to list but a few scenarios !
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 The lack of stories from Alan in the Mirror of late leads me to believe that he may have given the game up for a bit, for one reason or another.

Or, has he found out that the Rovers board have shut up shop for this summer, thats it for transfers so hes nothing more to add on here so his attentions now lie elsewhere.

When the Mr. X (Di Santo) story was going on,and up to 200 members and 10 Anonymous Users were logging on and wondered if people were trying to get a story. now it seems a lot quieter. On a slightly off topic note any one seen the BBC this morning couple of journos talking of papers charging for on line content.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I had been thinking the same for about a month or so. I haven't seen nicko's byline on anything in the Mirror or the People since he went dark, so it's not like he's just cutting us off - for whatever reason he's stopped reporting for a bit, it seems. As for the charging online thing, Murdoch has been making noises about it for the Sun and the Times. It's usually accompanied by complaining about the BBC's website making it impossible for newspapers to make money - but surely charging to access the websites will simply drive more people to the free BBC site? Paid subscription models rarely work online. On topic, there doesn't seem to be much going on lately. Either Jerome Rothen or Hassan Yebda could sign for us before Saturday, depending on which paper you believe. Not sure if either of them has the tools to be "the next Tugay".
Iceman Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I see we in a battle to land Hassan Yebda for 3mill. Would be a good signing that, however Everton also lurking. Not sure why they would want Yebda, as they have Pienaar, Cahill, and Arteta.
Bobby G Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Never seen him play. What type of midfielder is he?
Iceman Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Never seen him play. What type of midfielder is he? Creative mid, but is known as a box to box mid. Gets up and down the pitch and can enjoys spraying the ball around looking for a team mate, and looks like he is a very energetic player. That is my observation from the games and highlights ive seen of him.
sweet Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Can someone explain to me why this Yebda fellow, has never been capped for Algeria yet?
jim mk2 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 The lack of stories from Alan in the Mirror of late leads me to believe that he may have given the game up for a bit, for one reason or another. It's August. Journalists do take family holidays like everyone else.
thenodrog Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 After watching Newcastle yesterday, I was quite impressed with Alan Smith, gavethe ball away only twice throughout the game but controlled midfield with a really good range of passing, always available and worked hard, quite surprised, if he could maintain that kind of form he would be great for Rovers!! Indeed he had a good game. As I have said before Smith fits the SA requirement of being 2 or 3 players in one. For all our more sensitive and precious fans out there, I've a sneaky feeling that we will end up with signing an 'unpopular' choice at the end of Aug. The board will want SA to find the new Bentley so that we can sell him on in the future and will be holding out on signing one with a bad reputation whereas SA will want anybody just to do a good job in the squad, knowing that if he holds out long enough the boartd will crack. It might be quite a battle of wills ... a BRFC board desperately wanting to make money and rebuild our media tarnished image v SA desperately wanting to restore his Bar Code tarnished reputation in the shortest time possible for one last crack at a proper BIG job. Nicko is away in Scotland after his Father passed away this week....................I did not want to post this but feel that we might have gone down hill with the different guesses on his whereabouts..................... He is Up in Scotland, organising things............................... He has my sympathy.
jim mk2 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 SA desperately wanting to restore his Bar Code tarnished reputation in the shortest time possible for one last crack at a proper BIG job. Can't see that happening. Allardyce is in his mid-50s, is damaged goods and too controversial. None of the so-called "big clubs" would touch him.

Brfcrule1 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 hi all, I know long time no post wonder if someone could clear this one up for me apparently at the beginning of the summer we were linked to an attacking midfielder Shikabala. I thought he was due at pre-season but have heard nothing since is the deal still on? what's the situation on the work permit front this guy could well be our tugay style midfielder. I also feel looking at it Yebda would be a better option than Rothen, younger a lot taller and is a big threat from set pieces. He could offer the team more energy wise and as good a passer of the ball than Tugay, ok would cost a bit more also there is still this problem with Rothen buying out his contract with PSG I think with a couple more in midfield we could be sorted also pass on my sympathys to Nicko.

Actually, it wasDuff who caught my eye. looked quite like his old self.
tchocky Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Re: Smith, Duff Don't forget they were playing against Championship standard opposition. If last season is anything to go by they are not going to be a success in the PL again.

For all our more sensitive and precious fans out there, I've a sneaky feeling that we will end up with signing an 'unpopular' choice at the end of Aug. . I will hold my hand up to being sensitive on the subject of our club having whatever remnants of a good name it still has in the eyes of the wider footballing world, totally destroyed beyond recovery if we are stupid enough to sign that thug Barton. However I really don't think anyone could ever apply the word precocious to me at my age. I guess that is what you meant to say Theno, but if you did indeed mean precious, then I am quite happy with that.
Fife Rover Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Re: Smith, Duff Don't forget they were playing against Championship standard opposition. If last season is anything to go by they are not going to be a success in the PL again. Not meaning to be pedantic and I do agree with what you are saying in any other case; BUT in this case they were playing WBA who like Newcastle were a PL team last season, and a much better side in footballing terms to boot.
broadsword Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 didn't they finish bottom? I'd say they got relemegated cos they were championship quality
Fife Rover Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 didn't they finish bottom? I'd say they got relemegated cos they were championship quality Yes they did, but as a team they played much better quality football than the Toon did over all the season. WBA's big trouble over the season was they just could not score goals.
