Banjo in on a free transfer and pay as you play deal. Gotta be the only way we could consider it.

He would never take that. It will be a considerable wedge of cash. Hopefully no more than Roberts was on.

Hope if we go for this it does not turn out like Chimbonda who must be costing us 30k + and doing nothing.

That said Benjani can head a ball which is more than Roberts can do. He would make a better partner for Kalinic than Jase. Ad if we do go for it does it mean we can afford to buy a decent player in midfield?

Season looking a bit daunting at the moment. Relying on Kalinic and M Diouf to have good seasons as it stands. A lot depending on uncertain factors.

Let's get one thing straight.

Benjani is ONLY being bought if Jason Roberts is sold. So he is a direct replacement of roberts, thats if rovers can shift him out.

Benjani would be a free transfer if he joined and roberts would be sold for around £1.5-2M

So in return the club would be getting in Benjani in for roberts on a free and and extra couple on million freed up by the, sale of roberts. So all in all not bad business. He did have a decent end to the season at city if some people remember and wouldnt be a bad 3rd choice striker to have.

Mystic Meg, I think you have a serious crack in your crystal ball.

I'm not fussed about Benjani training with us. With his medical history the only realistic contract he will get is a pay-as-you-play deal or a 6 month loan until January. It won't break the bank and is probably just back up as any takeover won't happen until after the window slams shut.

If the takeover does happen, we can wave him goodbye in January and welcome some better signings.

I'm with Le Chuck in wanting to freshen up the midfield/wide forwards, and quite like the sound of Tuncay if he's cheap enough. The current lot is so predictable and sterile that it may not matter who we have up front. All our opponents will have to do is mark David Dunn (if he's fit) and pressure all our other midfielders who will sadly oblige and give the ball away.

Kalinic is obviously talented and I think if he was in a top 6 team he'd be banging them in; he just needs the chances. What he doesn't need is to be scampering underneath high balls because the defence have resorted to bypassing the midfield.

John O'Mara.

Actually, that is wrong, John O'Mara came from either Charlton or Brentford, he was a lampist of a striker, never a footballer but he came after scoring over 40 goals a season, his debut, yes I was there he got 2 onhos debut, then they tried to get him to be a footballer, they should have left him around the box and laughed at the opposition trying to stop him as they couldnt, he would always score!!

where is Cryer and Plunkett, to come out and deny the Benjani rumours? ;)

Plunkett said this earlier, He's available on a free. Main striker still to come

Hopefully this is incorrect, like the Heskey story. It would be beyond the rhealm of comedy and tragedy if Benjani is who we're after.

As someone have mentioned earlier in the thread.

If we are shifting out Roberts, brining in Benjani and then buying a class striker I am all for this signing.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this whole Benjani debate based around someone saying they spoke to "an academy lad"? You've all been camped on here for 3 months hanging on a journalist's every word when all along "an academy lad" had the inside scoop.

Am I the only sceptic here that thinks its a load of tosh?

Why would Benjani be a replacement for Roberts? What's the point in replacing a crap striker with another? Surely we should be trying to get better than what we have already.

Sell Roberts use the extra dough to pony up for the Pentacoat chap, that gives us 3 strikers at the club and others that can play the role if needed too, we dont need anymore than three if we only play with one up front.

Think it comes down to whether Benjani is more useful, better than Roberts?

Roberts out for £750k > Benjani in for free

Another Main striker in

Di Santo out > Mame Diouf in

Id be happy with that.....Surely Benjani would be on less than Roberts in wages too.

Wouldn't suprise me if we just went with Benjani, Kalinic and Diouf.

Certainly keeps our money men happy too.

What a fecking crap signing if he comes in. Dodgy knees, crap finisher. Great.

Benjani's record.

(Gls)

2006–2008 Portsmouth 70 (19)

2008–2010 Manchester City 23 (4)

2010 Sunderland (loan) 8 (0)

An injury riddled 32-33 year old with just 4 goals scored over the past two seasons.

I take it hes either a midfielder or defender or his he.... a new age defensive forward

Benjani is earning nothing at the moment as he is free agent - therefore whatever we offer him is better than zero. He will do a job, maybe a better one than we all think... We will struggle to get anyone else in before Saturday as it is. Squad not brilliant, but I think the youngsters will get a chance given our financial position and the current bizarre transfer market. Not a bad thing in my eyes.

3 points on Saturday will cheer me up and stop the depression which appears to be a hazard of reading this thread through the summer. C'mon the Rovers!

PaulPlunkett on that LancashireTelegraph Twitter page link says that Benjani isnt the main striker, just 'a free' but dosent say if we are interested

Do you have a link???

Shhh, you're talking too much sense. The select few here who rate Benjani are conveniently the guy's a crock and even if he is a better finisher than Roberts (a backhanded compliment if I ever heard one) his contribution will be minimal at best. It's just a pointless, underwhelming signing on whatever the terms. Are you honestly telling me that the time and money put towards Benjani couldn't be invested in a young, unproven striker? I'd rather take a gamble on someone with potential and resale value than a PL has-been with dodgy knees.
