Al Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 What answers do you want? You want him sacked like the rest of the idiots on that march. He needs time with HIS team. The team that he is building have played ONLY 4 games together and you want him gone. How stupid of you. If I was Kean, I'd ignore the 1% that turned up, and most definitely ignore you for setting up this ridiculous protest to begin with. He has had eight bloody months. How long before he is judged? Do we wait until we are relegated? Just like De Gaulle famously said "France,c'est moi" so Kean believes he personifies Rovers----------ie you can't support Rovers but be against him. It's because we support Rovers that we are against him.

Blue n White Rover Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 He has had eight bloody months. How long before he is judged? Do we wait until we are relegated? We judge him on the results this season. He has had his first full pre-season, he has bought in the players that he wanted, and has had the final say on all tactics etc. He got us into a mess last season, but also got us out of it. He showed a lot of bottle back then too and got us some vital points. This is now his team and we judge him on what he does this season. Although we lost our first 3 games of the season, results have picked up since the end of the transfer window and the signing of Yakubu and Dann seem to be paying dividends. He needs time this season, something many of you aren't willing understand.
J*B Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I've given up reading this thread. The fact that 25% of voters changed their mind after one game is simply absurd. On that basis I've personally decided that we have some of the most fickle fans in the footballing world. Before I leave all I will say is: Appointing Kean was a very, very dangerous decision, due to him never actually being a "manager" before. Last season was very disappointing in terms of how we dropped down the league from when Sam was sacked. I'm very happy with the signings Kean has made in this transfer window - I don't care about +/- money spent so long as I feel we improve our squad every season, and I believe we have. We where mightly unlucky in the Everton game, we should have won. Fulham was poor, but we often play poor in London. Arsenal was a brilliant performance, however we where very lucky. If we continue the effort shown against Arsenal relegation and therefore sacking Kean is irrelevant, as I'll be happy.
jim mk2 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 If we continue the effort shown against Arsenal relegation and therefore sacking Kean is irrelevant, as I'll be happy. You'll be happy if we are relegated as long as we try hard ?
perthblue02 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Now we are the Brazil of England (now that Robinson's free kicks from the halfway line are no longer hoofs and are tactical plays ) , I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Scotland manager 's job doesn't come up and we loose the genius.
American Rover12 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Don't remember the exact date on the graph but SkySports just had a table showing us tied with two other teams for lowest number of points since the middle of Feb with 15. That is why Kean must still go.
Backroom DE. Posted September 20, 2011 Backroom Posted September 20, 2011 [*]If we continue the effort shown against Arsenal relegation and therefore sacking Kean is irrelevant, as I'll be happy. Sorry, but relegation is NOT irrelevant regardless of effort put in. If we're putting in a lot of effort but losing it'll indicate a serious tactical problem and as such Kean will need to go before he drags us into the abyss.
47er Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Kean thinks only 1% of the fans don't support him. What about the 10%+ of fans who no longer turn up to games?
chris Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Ok some may say he is busy doing his PR at the moment, but are we not busy also who went on the March? Should he be looking to accomodate us asap, so issues can be put to bed? or should he just say sod you lot I have 98%, and don't care what upsets the other 2%. I really dislike how Kean has twisted this statistic I don't think he realises the potential of the protest and Sun, LT and BRFCS polls ranged from 80% to 90% for his sacking. If anything it's shows that a protest needs to maximise it's resources and a morning march and the rain didn't do this. Had we lost to Arsenal and the protest was after the game, I have a feeling the numbers could have reached 4,000 - 5,000. Maybe I'm wrong, but either way, it's history and Kean got the result he needed and more time. If Kean had not laughed off the fans open letter and Venkys say "we back Kean but expect results" then the protest would have not be neccessary to me.

dubdubdub Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 NM We were only 1 point better off under the messiah this time last season. But playing the best football the world has ever seen!
J*B Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 You'll be happy if we are relegated as long as we try hard ? We wont go down if we perform at even 75% of what we did on Saturday.
roversmum Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Just out of interest, how long does training to be a Manager take and when can someone be considered to have completed the training?
dubdubdub Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 We wont go down if we perform at even 75% of what we did on Saturday. Agreed. Same with the Everton game.
briansol Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Despite all his interviews, or (Lap with the Trophy as someone said to me tonight) He is still not coming across any better IMO, Yes we beat Arsenal, so does that mean the last 10 months don't count? He has said he will speak with me in person, they have my number, Still no call, Will he make that call? Many who Marched on Saturday doubt it, Will we have the opportunty to speak to him open and honestly? If so will our questions be screened first? Will he wait until he puts together 6 to 7 wins on the bounce before taking up the appointment he has agreed to? Ok some may say he is busy doing his PR at the moment, but are we not busy also who went on the March? Should he be looking to accomodate us asap, so issues can be put to bed? or should he just say sod you lot I have 98%, and don't care what upsets the other 2%. Lots of Marchers want more action and have emailed me today asking what phase two is? I'm don't change my mind like the weather cos its fact we have has some great results against United, Arsenal and Liverpool and raised our game for those matches, but its the games against lesser club where we should be putting out a similar level of performance to get consistancy. My own personal questions will surround the past, present and future, and have no wish for them to be recorded ect, as I just want the answers as does many other fans. Glenn, I admire your dedication, but by your own admission you are forsaking your family so I suggest you rather spend time with them than making this Steve Kean issue such a personal agenda. Phase 2 and more action sounds ridiclous so don't go that route, the point has been made and even here in Norway people have asked what about the protest. Personally I'm very torn about Kean. He should been judged by results which has been poor, although the statistics are misused all the time. Some just refer to the form from February and disregard January which is wrong because January was part of that season and need to be counted. Last season was poor but we just survived so mission was accomplished. This season we are 5 matches in with 4 points which people claim is relegation form, but there are 4 team in worse form, so if the assumption that the form will continue means we wouldn't get relegated. Still we need to improve results to make 40+ points, but it's far to early judge the outcome of the season now. At least give it a third of the season like Ince. I think the drink driving was worse than the results and tainted the view of the man for me. The positive thing for me is the type of players he has brought in and the football that we are trying to play. Results are more important but there is another way to achieve results than Sam's hoofball. Too much is made of all the interviews he has given. He does appear naive in many senses when speaking public and would probably benefit to restrict to more boring statements and not spesking of contracts before they are signed. The 98% comment was just a man trying to defend himself, as well as the Championship League comment needs to be filtered with the propaganda filter. So basicly, I'll judge after 12-13 games. I respect the protest but hope the club can now get a chance to improve with a little more noise.
Steve Moss Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 We were only 1 point better off under the messiah this time last season. Don't dismiss "only" 1 point better after 4 games. 4 games = roughly 10% of the season. Extrapolated over the season, that 1 point "extra" that Allardyce obtained would result in 9-10 points better than Kean. The difference between top 10 and bottom half. And as Kean amply demonstrated during his 21 games in charge last season, absolutely every point counts. So basicly, I'll judge after 12-13 games. I respect the protest but hope the club can now get a chance to improve with a little more noise. With 4 games gone, and putting off judgement until 12-13 more matches, we are potentially writing off half the season. I think that is a bit excessive. I'm no longer interested in keeping an open mind about Kean. I no longer have any interest in fairness. My interest is ensuring the Rovers do well. I think with a manager other than Kean we can easily be a top 10 squad. Kean had 21 league games last season. He's had 4 league games this season. He's barely averaged 1 point per game. That's flirting with relegation. We've been more than fair and he's not good enough. If Kean ever began to average 1.2+ points per game (over his entire league career), I would change my mind. This is about results, not whether I think he is slime (and I do). I don't see that happening based on his performance over the last 4 games against fairly easy opposition (Arsenal was a wonderful result, but it was more a case of them imploding then us being Champions League material). Matters will only get much more difficult hereon out.
jim mk2 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 We wont go down if we perform at even 75% of what we did on Saturday. We were very lucky on Saturday - any honest Rovers fan would admit that. The problem is the way the team is set up defensively and similar defensive performances to Saturday over the course of the season are likely to see us relegated. Blackpool and West Brom the year before were good to watch and scored alot of goals and were involved in exciting matches but in the end they both went down because their defences were poor. Saturday was exciting but we got away with it because of Arsenal's failings and we are unlikely to get away with it again. Kean needs to grind out some 1-0 wins with the defence tight and better organised to show he is learning as a manager - and for us to survive in the Premier League this season. Performaing at 75% of Saturday is likely to see us get some real hammerings.

47er Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Just out of interest, how long does training to be a Manager take and when can someone be considered to have completed the training? I'd say when he gets consistently positive results. By that I mean actual scores as opposed to, say, number of excursions into the penalty area. By the way, it really annoys me intensely that my club has become a training ground for a man I don't respect.
John Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Whilst I think Kean talks a lot of rubbish, and likes to spin situations to his favour, however, if he was to start consistently picking up points, I would happily say he is a good football manager - ultimately, results is what football management is all about. If we were consistently picking up points, that would obviously also mean we as a club, we would be in a reasonable league position.
T4E Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 So one win and Kean's approval percentage has gone from 14% to 36%?! Just about sums up the knee-jerkers around here. The same thing happens after every game, either we lose and the anti-Keans rub it in everyone's face, or we avoid defeat and the pro-Keans come out in force. It's ridiculous. Over the course of his tenure, he has shown that he can't get results in this league consistently enough. That may improve - I hope it does. One win doesn't suggest to me that it has improved just yet, a consistent run of good results that bring his overall win %age up to something that can be deemed competitive in this league will convince me. Until then, he has a lot to prove, and I worry about allowing him to learn on our time. For that reason I voted to sack him. This seems really staright forward and I can't for the life of me understand how it generates page after page of debate.
