thenodrog Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Sherwood has shown nothing to suggest he would have been a success here. Clearly struggles controlling his emotions, has been found out tactically multiple times already with a hugely expensive team, no managerial record before joining Spurs and probably would have demanded a long contract based on his very public notifications of negotiations between he and the Spurs board. What we needed was experience, not another ex-player with no managerial record. It's like the clamour to appoint Shearer a couple of years back. That would have been a disaster and it's looking more and more likely every week that Sherwood doesn't have what it takes either. There is no logical reason that good players can make good managers but people do like to convince themselves that they will don't they?

Stuart Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 What we needed was experience, not another ex-player with no managerial record.See, this is where the debate doesn't move on for some posters. I'm working on the basis that "no-one with experience would ever come to Rovers" - as I keep being told every other day.On that basis, damaged goods, rookie, with higher quality playing experience than our players (Robbo excepted), with a point to prove, who would put a rocket up the backsides of a few under performers, might, MIGHT work. He also knows the club (physically if not 2014-culturally) and Singh also rates him highly, which makes it not beyond the realms. Plus, a bit of emotion is what Gaz seems to lack, so it might not go amiss. (Obviously I would prefer experience, and personally I would take Souness back tomorrow if I thought he would come).
Backroom Tom Posted March 30, 2014 Backroom Posted March 30, 2014 So the rumours are Sherwood has punched a Spurs player in the face and is facing the sack Maybe we should have got him in when Murphy was here

A Shearer or Sherwood would bring a buzz back to the town. Both would need a father figure, I expect.
adopted scouser Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Liverpool are a joy to watch these days, how Rodgers has them playing in around 18 months is astounding. The title is Citeh's to lose but I would love them to win it for Gerrard.
Ricky Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Just came on to see if anyone had heard who he's supposed to have punched. That's got to be up there with Pulis headbutting beattie whilst stark naked!
thenodrog Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The fans need a lift. A Shearer or Sherwood would bring a buzz back to the town. Both would need a father figure, I expect. In that case just get the father figure.
ABBEY Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 So the rumours are Sherwood has punched a Spurs player in the face and is facing the sack Maybe we should have got him in when Murphy was here Rose is who he has allegedly thumped
perthblue02 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Got to give Sherwood credit if true , only thing from Spurs that hit the target today
Stuart Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 In that case just get the father figure. We've already got him. It's not really:a.) Exciting the fans b.) Working C'mon Gordon, I'm talking about a Parkes, not a Hoddle.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The fans need a lift. A Shearer or Sherwood would bring a buzz back to the town. Both would need a father figure, I expect. Both of those would have been equally disasterous.
Guest Norbert Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Sherwood next season welcoming Orr and Best back into the squad...............can see that working! I'm not sure that Sherwood is entirely healthy anyway. The erratic behaviour, the yellowing, leathery skin, the bloodshot eyes.....honestly, he seems to act like an angry coke head at times.
chaddyrovers Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 So the rumours are Sherwood has punched a Spurs player in the face and is facing the sack Maybe we should have got him in when Murphy was here this rumour has been rubbish by Spurs Players Lennon and Soldado. just shows how powerful rumours are on social media.
thenodrog Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 We've already got him. It's not really: a.) Exciting the fans b.) Working C'mon Gordon, I'm talking about a Parkes, not a Hoddle. Fact remains that we are discussing a Manager proper and not throwing logic and clear thought to the wind by employing has-been ex players for no good reason other than a daft nostalgia fuelled hunch.
jim mk2 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Both of those would have been equally disasterous. Not according to the experts on here who say Sherwood is the "new Souness" who would "bring a buzz back to the town". The Sherwood altercation rumours have been denied by Spurs tonight but then they would say that wouldn't they ? Whatever the outcome, Sherwood is turning out to be another poor choice by the league's best chairman, Daniel Levy
thenodrog Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Rose is who he has allegedly thumpeddunno what it is about Rose but I wouldn't need much of an excuse to deck that little bugger either. However the experiment has failed cos as far as levy is concerned Sherwood is a loose cannon and neither he nor the club can afford to tolerate that.
Clitherover Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Wouldn't mind either City or Liverpool winning it, whichever annoys the manure supporters most is good for me. I don't like Liverpool fans they are second only to United fans for their arrogance, I'd rather City win it out of the teams up there.
Guest Norbert Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 But then there is a section of Citeh fans who have that arrogant swagger of someone on the dole who has won the Euro millions and think they're some sort of big shot. Give it another league title or two and they'll be right up there with Katie Hopkins in terms of misplaced sense of superiority.
roverandout Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I would definitely take sterling to the world cup, looked class yesterday
speeeeeeedie Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I'd like Liverpool to win it as as they are playing some absolutely enthralling football. It's a joy to watch. City should have walked it this season, but an iffy start and Aguero getting injured has made it close. I never want Chelsea to win it and they seem to have shot themselves in the foot after Saturday. At the other end, Fulham are done for and I think Cardiff are too. The other spot is between West Brom and Sunderland. A lot on money is going on Norwich as they play Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, and Arsenal in their last 4 games. But they play West Brom then Fulham before that. I reckon that if they beat those 2 they will be safe. Sherwood has lost the plot. Whilst sitting in the stands might be a good idea as you can see the game differently, it doesn't look right that a novice is doing it; especially during a hammering. He will be off in the summer, and if ENIC has any sense so will Levy.

I haven't bumped into to many City fans as they generally seem to come from Manchester only. Liverpool fans like United fans are like a virus that have spread everywhere from their glory days. After a few years of City dominance it might be different though.
Backroom DE. Posted March 31, 2014 Backroom Posted March 31, 2014 Assume the West Ham fans won't be booing the team off this week
Stuart Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Very poor PL this season. At this rate, 30 points might mean safety!
roverandout Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 its a poor premier league every season, all boom boom boom, la liga is technically superior.
Guest Norbert Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 This is the first season in La Liga where there are more than two teams challenging for the title since Valencia won it. It is technically better, but when it's like the SPL in terms of who gets the money and can win it, it can be boring. This current season is very unusual.
