It should never have come down to the last ball. As you say, a cracking start though. Quote

Gav Posted Friday at 10:56 Posted Friday at 10:56 England V India started earlier today in Leeds, England won the toss and elected to field. Should be a good test series, England can bat with anyone in the world, but the bowling is the issue for me. Looking forward to it. India 36-0 Quote

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted yesterday at 08:23 Posted yesterday at 08:23 I watched a bit of it in the pub. I don’t recall one ball beating the bat in the time I was watching. Quote

It was all a bit strange really. From 40 overs in the ball was swinging around, yet as you say they weren’t beating the bat. India batted superbly. I’m not sure England would find it so easy under those conditions. Our best chance is for rain, a draw and move on. Quote

Hussain’s decision to insert Australia on a flat track in Brisbane that sunny Thursday morning has become the thing of cricketing legend - a bottomless cup of mockery from which his broadcasting colleagues still sip today. Gav Posted yesterday at 12:04 Posted yesterday at 12:04 (edited) 4 wickets in this session, should have been 5 with a drop by the wicket keeper. Very good session of cricket, Pant celebration for his 100 was superb. England will be delighted if they keep India under 500, but with the clouds rolling in, it’s going to be tough chasing anything against this Indian bowling attack. Gav Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Brilliant day of test match cricket, definitely Englands day, great fight back, but the loss of Root at the end was a blow. Superb stuff, enthralling, looking forward to tomorrow. 3 Quote

Statistics or common sense, which would you choose? I reckon Stokes is the only current test match captain who would have bowled having won that toss. For me what has happened in the past isn’t that relevant when the sun is beating down and it’s 30 degrees. The weather forecast over the 5 days was yet another reason to bat first. It’s a thin line between genius and stupidity and Stokes crosses it on a regular basis. Still, I suppose if any team can chase 500 to win in the 4th innings it’s this one. only2garners Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Andy Zaltzman has a fascinating stat in his Observer column today. Across the world and in England & Wales except Headingley runs per wicket have been greater in the first innings, then 2nd, then 3rd and then 4th, as you might expect. At Headingley it is exactly the reverse - the best innings has been the 4th. Quote
