onlyonejackwalker Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Lower mid table. Theres some right old rubbish in this division and it's a long hard season. They will have their struggles as well. Embargo or not, we still wax a fortune on this team and its surely not unreasonable to expect a lot more than the tosh witnessed so far. The fact that relegation remains an issue demonstrates the general lack of committment, belief, will to win, courage and fight under GB, not the outstanding quality of the league, nor the fact we are hit with financial restrictions. Which for me is simply a convenient excuse for continued mediocrity. Where do we feature in a wage bill table?
mustard Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 If Chaddy thinks we can finish 7th-12th then fair play. Should Bowyer fail to achieve this then Chaddy would surely lose faith in Bowyer and support him being sacked and replaced. Personally, I think we have the squad to finish top half. However, the team aren't winners under Gary Bowyer. Under his stewardship, they've learned to play for draws instead of pushing for the victory. A clear lack of belief and motivation has killed any chance of a winning mentality. I predict a 14th-20th finish. Anywhere around there. With Rhodes fit, we'll pick up undeserved points here and there, just as we did in our first Championship season under Kean etc. If Rhodes gets injured or leaves in January, I fear we could easily drop into a relegation scrap.
McClarky Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I thought we'd go down before the season started and sadly still think the same way. With our current set up failure is guaranteed.
Backroom DE. Posted September 6, 2015 Backroom Posted September 6, 2015 Where do we feature in a wage bill table? Difficult to tell at this juncture but we know Rhodes is well above the average wage for the division, and I'd wager Hanley and Lowe are on pretty sweet deals as well. Probably in the top 6/7.

Difficult to tell at this juncture but we know Rhodes is well above the average wage for the division, and I'd wager Hanley and Lowe are on pretty sweet deals as well. Probably in the top 6/7. I posted a link last week, not sure on which thread. Last season we were 5th in the league wage table. After getting rid of Best and Robbo, I imagine we will be 6th/7th. All this talk of Bowyer trimming the wage bill, but we're still paying a king's ransom for the squad we've got. We've cut off all but the last remnants of Kean's signings, with Bowyer bringing in the majority of the squad, but our wages remain huge for this league.
Mercer Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 The manager is so key in any club. With Bowyer in charge, I can't see Rovers any higher than bottom eight. Lose at Fulham and QPR and we might not get out of the bottom three. We really are staring into the abyss in more ways than one.
Athlete Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I honestly believe once Rhodes starts bagging his goals we'll just about keep our heads above the drop zone........ but without JR and the current set up and manager it would be certain relegation
JAL Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Expectations at best has to be top two with play off spot as the fall back. Anyone wishing for less isnt a Rovers fan - are you ?

We've cut off all but the last remnants of Kean's signings, with Bowyer bringing in the majority of the squad, but our wages remain huge for this league. One thing Bowyer can't be blamed for is the size of the wage bill. Our big earners will be Rhodes, Hanley and possibly Lowe, Bowyer brought none of those to the club. The likes of Marshall, Kilgallon and Conway will be on a decent wedge for this league but the vast majority of his signings will be pretty cheap. Nobody signed in the last 18 months will be on more than £10kpw and most will be on a lot less (Brown, Peshi, Fonz, etc) Our wages will be a lot less than 'huge for this league' when you consider the players that Bowyer has brought in and the size of our squad. Derby Fulham QPR Hull Boro Leeds Reading Wolves Wednesday and the Dingles have all spent pretty big this summer. Our wage bill will have gone down considerably when you consider just this summer's departures Josh Morris, Josh King Tom Cairney , David Dunn Paul Robinson, Leon Best, Rudy Gestede Jake Kean (10k PW FFS).
perthblue02 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Best finish probably 15th , worst 22nd , but the squad will have increased in value by 26 pence so fantastic season and lashings of gravy all round
Leonard Venkhater Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Pregnant with doom and hoping for an early caesarean section mid september Blimey, Yoda. thanks to your post, I finally understand the Beckett I never got at school... " The grave-digger puts on the forceps" ( Waiting for Bowyer!)
JAL Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 EVERYBODY at Rovers are paid handsomely Everton boy. T
blueboy3333 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 EVERYBODY at Rovers are paid handsomely Everton boy. T asinine comment but not unexpected from you.

gumboots Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Relegation. Expectations at best has to be top two with play off spot as the fall back. Anyone wishing for less isnt a Rovers fan - are you ? big difference between wishes and expectations. I'd like to see us promoted. Unless things change I expect us to be relegated
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted September 6, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted September 6, 2015 Jal I can't tell if you're on the wind up or not, but I'll humour you. I obviously want what you want in terms if promotion. But, given what Bowyer has served up under his stewardship it would be unrealistic to expect it as I don't believe he is capable of delivering the goods. Looks like Gumboots already said it more concisely!
Claytons Left Boot Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Automatic promotion this season, a couple of marquee signings in the summer, then Champions League football the season after that. Franchise football - it's like garlic bread, it's the way forward. Hail Venky's, hail Venky's!
JAL Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Relegation. big difference between wishes and expectations. I'd like to see us promoted. Unless things change I expect us to be relegated If you don't expect promotion then why buy the ticket, if your not in it to Win it then why bother.Too which you clearly explained gumboots Jal I can't tell if you're on the wind up or not, but I'll humour you. Backroom DE. Posted September 6, 2015 Backroom Posted September 6, 2015 There's a difference between what people want and what people expect, JAL. I'm sure we all want to be in the top 2, but expecting that with everything going on at the club would just make you stupid or hopelessly naive.
yoda Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Blimey, Yoda. thanks to your post, I finally understand the Beckett I never got at school... " The grave-digger puts on the forceps" ( Waiting for Bowyer!) more of the quote is better, "Down in the hole, lingeringly, the grave digger puts on the forceps" I like the hole part of it I also like the James Joyce one, "I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience" You would think some people would learn that doing the same thing all the time gets the same results !
Gav Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Expectations at best has to be top two with play off spot as the fall back. Anyone wishing for less isnt a Rovers fan - are you ? Nobody is wishing for less as you know JAL. Sometimes I wonder about you I really do.
glen9mullan Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I think we are a couple of injuries away from a relegation dog fight, Lose Conway , Marshall or Rhodes for a sustained period and we are in trouble, I think at present we are looking at 16th at best
A cup of beans Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Chaps. We've missed a trick. We have a lame manager with huge connections to Forest - get him bigged up in Nottingham and they may snap him up "Good luck with the article, Sir... have you heard about our manager? He's performed miracles, in a time where everything has gone against him. He's an astute tactician, and inspirational motivator, who rules with authority. He's going to lead us to glory" Expectations at best has to be top two with play off spot as the fall back. Anyone wishing for less isnt a Rovers fan - are you ? To be fair to you, Jal... GB himself has gone on record in the LET in the past, proclaiming those were achievable aims.

I imagine we are still top 8 in wages blueboy. I'll find the link for you tomorrow as it's in black and white we were 5th for wages last season. We are paying millions a year more than a lot of clubs. I'm sure we were paying thirty odd million last season, £12mill per annum more than the likes of Burnley were. Best and Robbo at £40k a week is £2m each annually. Take them out the equation and we're still up there.. Would be interesting to see when Hanley and Lowe got new contracts but even if you substituted Rhodes, Hanley and Lowe's wages for £10k a week each, I bet we'd still be top 10 on how much we pay. Yet finishing in the bottom half this season would be acceptable for GB in the eyes of many, due to FFP etc. It's funny. I'm not blaming Bowyer for the wage bill being high, I'm saying I don't buy all the baloney about him being hard done to and having to work under such immense restrictions. I imagine Marshall, Conway, Evans, Duffy, Steele, etccccc were all signed on rather handsome contracts. Even if you forget this season and all the departures, it doesn't change the fact we underachieved with our resources last season. And Bowyer has to carry the can.
