A funny little side note about today's anniversary for my fellow supporters to consider: 

One of the highest ranked women in the sport over the last 6 years is a certain Ms. Lavelle of the USWNT.

Her birth date:  May 14, 1995. 

So,......Does anyone think the given name Rosemary is a coincidence?

And, much as there is a lot about Alex Ferguson I didn't like, he made the point that we deserved to win the league because we had more points than them.

Before the days of mobile phones, raw footage of anything Blackburn Rovers was hard to come by. I came across this absolute gem a few days ago and have been given permission to post it from a friend of the site and loyal Blackburn Rovers supporter (He appears at the end of the video in the pub looking about 12).

The frustrating thing about Roberts was that he spent a lot of time on his arse, which was strange given that he could just bulldoze any defenders in the world when he wanted to.

I still enjoyed having him here.

These are taken from “Things about Blackburn Rovers” by Harry Kay 1948. The capacity of Ewood when the game was played would be about 53,000, so I guess the Riverside capacity would be 20,000 to 25,000

30,000 in a ground nowhere near as big as the modern one. Imagine what it was like when the record attendance of 61,000 was set. 50,000 wasn’t uncommon then. Notice also - if you look closely enough - kids sat over the wall on the running track on all sides of the ground.

Apples and oranges. The riverside holds about 5k now. Back in the day the riverside terrace alone probably held double that at least.

The last time the old Ewood was packed to the rafters was v City 1969(?)

It was absolutely frightening standing on the Riverside. You saw the sway coming before it hit you and you had to cling to any rail for dear life.

Can't believe how we used to get many more than that on. Crowds more well-behaved possibly.

I spent most of my early years supporting Rovers from the Riverside. Probably 1973 to 1985.

It was far from full during those years, but it’s where I fell in love with Rovers and used to really enjoy my time there, with some great memories.

Some of my first games were those FA Cup ties against Cov and Villa in 1980 (?). I was in the Riverside seats with my dad and can remember looking down on the packed terrace below. I think there were 30k on Ewood for those games. Happy memories!

I remember both of those games, very well.

I was on the riverside for that game too. 40,000 packed into Ewood. Imagine it with 61,000 on!
