I remember both of those games, very well.

Both definitely in the 80’s

The Villa went to a replay, I don't remember the match, but that Villa side won European Cup the season after, beating Bayern Munuch in the final

16 February 1980

Score 1-1

Competition FA Cup 5th round

Venue Ewood Park

Attendance 29,468

I was on the riverside for that game too. 40,000 packed into Ewood. Imagine it with 61,000 on!

I was on the Blackburn end, with my mum.

Two of my favourite games ever. 3rd Div Vs 1st and really felt like the whole team, fans and club pulling together in the same direction.

And don't let anybody tell you a cup run damages league form. 5 FA cup ties plus a replay (roughly) coinciding with, IIRC, 15 wins and a draw in the league.

Great days to be a Rover.

Bryan Douglas, one of the best and 91 years old today. Cartoon strip nicked from a Blackburn Facebook page..

In the 1963-65 era he was the best attacking midfield player/ playmaker in the country and he was criminally ignored by Sir Alf.
