I remember both of those games, very well.

Both definitely in the 80’s

The Villa went to a replay, I don't remember the match, but that Villa side won European Cup the season after, beating Bayern Munuch in the final

16 February 1980

Score 1-1

Competition FA Cup 5th round

Venue Ewood Park

Attendance 29,468

I was on the riverside for that game too. 40,000 packed into Ewood. Imagine it with 61,000 on!

I was on the Blackburn end, with my mum.

Rovers are on the Big Match Revisited next Saturday at 10.30 am. It's a game against Oldham from August 1975.

Two of my favourite games ever. 3rd Div Vs 1st and really felt like the whole team, fans and club pulling together in the same direction.

And don't let anybody tell you a cup run damages league form. 5 FA cup ties plus a replay (roughly) coinciding with, IIRC, 15 wins and a draw in the league.

Great days to be a Rover.

Bryan Douglas, one of the best and 91 years old today. Cartoon strip nicked from a Blackburn Facebook page..

In the 1963-65 era he was the best attacking midfield player/ playmaker in the country and he was criminally ignored by Sir Alf.

i`ve been looking for footage of that game for years, but have never found any, can`t find any of the coventry game the round before either

If it helps, I think it was on Match of the Day that night.  Was the equaliser an Allan Evans og from a Brotherston corner?  Don't think I'd seen Ewood as full before

We scored very near to the end of the game if I remember rightly. I went over with a mate of mine who’s a Villa fan.

Professional Men who had the best interests of The Rovers at Heart indeed.

Guided the Club through financial hard times as we watched other local Clubs tumble down the Leagues.

I yearn for a return to those Days.

It must be the 'homer referees' quote you refer to Ian. 😂

To be fair though he didn't like me when I refereed his team at Millmoor. 😂

Seem to remember him saying something on the lines of " no not you fucking refereeing us" when you bumped into him before a game.

I could have just made that up Tony, this aging things a bugger 🥴

And that was one of the more polite things he said. 😂

It's fair to say he neither rated me nor liked me and that's how it was - it went with the territory.

Fantastic to watch. Just three years before I started going. You can hear the chant of "Rovers" (clap, clap, clap) throughout this broadcast. Does anyone know when this chant changed to  "THE Rovers" (clap, clap, clap)?
