Won the fans player of the year that season too over Shearer who scored 30 odd goals which is some feat in itself, and showed what the fans thought of him. Think it's easy to forget how good he was with him not being involved much in the title winning season. 3 Quote

I think Batty was one of those players who you only really appreciate by watching live. So much of his good work was done off the ball - when Le Saux was rampaging forward and we lost the ball the opposition would naturally look to utilise the space left. Batty just naturally knew to cover those spaces. Similar to Tronstadt in many ways 😉 Edited 7 hours ago by oneandycrawford Addition 1 Quote

Complete all round players and you didn't need two of them to fulfill the defensive midfield role! 1 Quote
Upside Down Posted 18 minutes ago Posted 18 minutes ago (edited) Sorry but if Tugay is not in your best all time Rovers 11 then you've got it wrong. There's a few players that should always be in there regardless: Shearer - No explanation necessary Tugay - World class. Made mugs out of so many highly rated players with absolutely zero effort. Doesn't get anywhere near the amount of credit and respect he deserves. Friedel - The best Keeper in the world at one point, and that was whilst he was qas playing for us. Duff - Again, absolutely world class. Would get into any team around when he was at his peak, which again was whilst he was at Rovers. Another that gets talked about and is mentioned by many folk: Douglas - Much harder for those of us who didn't see him to comment as there's not the video evidence available for the others, but he's always so highly rated by those who did see him that's hard to ignore. Also played in a totally different era so that's hard to compare. Bob Crompton could also be in this category, even harder as there's nobody alive who saw him play. Again, a completely different era.
