I've mentioned it before but I think they're pretty fortunate to be as high as they are in the table. Without all those late goals earlier on in the season they'd be in a right predicament. Quote

Even worse, sometimes, it seems to me a resentment against wingers and other such 'Fancy Dans'. A winger that runs at players and tries to make crosses whilst going at full pelt is going to lose the ball more than other players. Theirs is a high risk, high reward style of play. The alternatives are the Grealish at Man City winger that acts as a wall to keep possession or the winger that only passes/crosses. That said, there's no doubt that there are some 'dribbler wingers' that are wasteful. But Doku has always struck me as a player who makes things happen and unlocks defences. Is he at the Mahrez level - maybe not yet - but I think if he plays regularly, he will be. Why is it lazy analysis? You can be as tricky, exciting, or fast as you want as a winger but at the end of the day unless you're either creating chances for others or scoring them yourself it's all for nowt. Incidentally I thought Grealish turned into an absolute parody of himself at Citeh. Everytime anyone gave him the ball he just gave it straight back. Anyone could do that and take zero risk. Pep got most of the flak for that for instructing him to play in a certain way but even he must have got sick of him eventually as he initially left him out then moved him out of the Club. Quote

With the benefit of hindsight that looks like it could have been one of the most expensive mistakes ever. I'd be trying to shunt him off to Saudi pronto in January. Salah has lost his edge of pace - and IMO is the one player that needs to be dropped at the moment. It is amazing how much they miss Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diaz. But at the moment teams have figured how to play against Liverpool - as they seem unable to play past a high press - and after passing it around the defence mostly end up playing long ball.. For all the money they spent - losing out on Guehi is really hurting them. 1 Quote
Backroom DE. Posted November 9 Backroom Posted November 9 (edited) There were warning signs last season with Salah, but he still scored 29 goals and had 18 assists (PL only, a few more in other comps) so you can understand the logic in giving him an extension. Players in their early 30s can decline pretty fast, though, so always a bit of a risk. Edited November 9 by DE. 1 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 Slot won't be sack at this stage. But I do question why they need 2 big money striker signings or why they didn't replace Luiz Daiz. Or why they left Guehi's bid to the late minute Quote
roversfan99 Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Theyve signed big money signings that need to work out, and in Isak and Wirtz, they are top players, hardly gambles who had scored loads in a lesser league or anything like that. The team you would think sooner rather than later needs to be built around them. It feels with the latter like they are trying to squeeze him in to a similar iteration of their previous template for a team. Theyve for a while been 433, had a hard working, selfless and energetic midfield and central striker with the 2 wide men providing the goal threat, which was pretty much all Salah once Mane left. As a result, he was excused from defending. Last season they pretty much played the same team every week, getting fortunate with injuries. To fully charge forward with a reset, I do wonder if Salah's role needs to reduce, hard while he is at the club, and/or they need a new manager to see it as a total change. They cant give Salah a responsibility free role on the right and give Wirtz time in his best position, I dont think. Leaves them too open. Quote

Liverpool paid a fortune for what is hoped to be a team for the next 5 years. FSG will give him time to implement that. He came in last year, changed relatively little from Klopp and cantered to the league title. I agree that something is off this year. I'm sure all of new personnel, losing 2 stalwarts, Jota's death, backroom staff changes, and other teams strengthening has had an affect but what I've seen is that too many established players aren't in form. Mac Allister and Salah have fallen off a cliff. Konate looks like he's playing on ice (City let him have the ball yesterday and it worked in their favour). Even van Dijk has had iffy games. This lack of form has led to far too many mis-controlled balls, bad passes, dodgy headers, and wayward shots. Quote

RoverDom Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I think the problem with Liverpool is they're playing a very attacking starting line up to begin with. Even Gravenberch who was fantastic as that holding midfielder last season is being asked to get forward more. Then they go a goal down and slot seems to start taking defenders off for attackers. Like a kid playing fifa and playing 10 strikers. Last season he did little tactical tweaks and changed games. This season he seems to just chuck all his attackers on and hope he brute forces a victory. Also too many passengers - kerkez ineffective - Isak seems to be paying the price for downing tools all of pre season - looks way off it - salah - I said this last season he is a passenger for the vast majority of games last season he got away with it cos he'd pop up with a goal or an assist then go back to being ineffective for 88 minutes but this season he is contributing nothing. Absolute passenger in games. Effectively playing with 9/10 men each game. Quote

They seem to moved away from last season winning formula. I also think they didn't need to sign Isak and Ekitike. Ekitike should be first choice tho given his form. Instead of spending so big on Isak, I would have look for number 6 player(defensive midfielder player, centre back and back up striker. Salah is massively off form and are they actually missing TAA. It was deja vu from my comments after the City game. Too many players were mis controlling balls, playing errant passes, and generally playing scared. The ball dinged off Konate's shin twice before going out for the corner that Forest scored their first goal from. Mac Allister missed a simple tackle for the second, and Robertson got turned inside out for the third. Their current predicament can be nicely summed up by 2 incidents in the first half. Gakpo pitifully pulling out of a challenge he was favoured to win, and with 20 seconds to go before the halftime whistle instead of getting the ball into the box they played a couple of backwards passes on the left side and the ball ended up going out of play for a Forest throw. They have no heart, desire, or graft. They are ponderous going forward too. They play too many deliberate, safe passes in and around the middle of the opposition half without anyone trying to make anything happen. None of their wide players - full backs or wingers ever get in behind. Salah and Gakpo cut inside at every opportunity further decreasing space. They are very easy to play against. Sit off them and let them pass around in front of the back line. Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted 3 hours ago Moderation Lead Posted 3 hours ago They were a bit lucky with the disallowed goal for Forest too, so it could have been even worse. They are just wide open though and too many players not performing. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Thomas Frank got his tactics badly wrong in the first half of the North London Derby. I would be making 2 changes if I was Spurs head coach. Begivall on for Danso and Johnson for Odabert. Go 4-3-3 Frank doesnt seem to rate Johnson for some reason. Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 2-0 Arsenal HT We had the Polar opposite of the Liverpool v City game, when a goal that probably SHOULD have been ruled out for offside for a player blocking the keeper's view, wasnt. I absolutely despair with VAR. Most of the time you just get the wrong decision being made twice. Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted 2 hours ago Moderation Lead Posted 2 hours ago Spurs look absolutely terrible going forward and their defending has been atrocious, too. Goalkeeper should have done better for the second goal, I felt. Spurs looking very frustrated and turning it into a bloodbath, but they’ve only themselves to blame, they’ve been woeful. Quote
roversfan99 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago After a lot of talk about 2 games in about how this seasons promoted sides were all totally different from the last few years when they all were outside the drop zone. Leeds and Burnley (thankfully) are starting to look well off the standard. And Sunderland have had to spend a massive amount to be where they are. Its really not healthy and shows the impact of all the TV money and the gap its created. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted 56 minutes ago Author Posted 56 minutes ago Spurs were terrible. didn't turn up. Frank got his team selection and tactics wrong today Eze was fantastic and he should be the England squad for World Cup Quote
