Hedges Ohashi and Kargbo as our regular front 3 doesn't inspire me too much, although I do think Ohashi has done well.

Heading into next season with the same problems we had this.

A wide man with 1 goal and 2 assists in a season in which he played the majority of games.

A wide man who isnt quick, isnt tricky and cant beat a man.

A wide man who has lots of red flags with injury.

But hes cheap and requires no negotiation so sign him up.

This is spot on.

Hedges is limited in an attacking sense (too slow, can't dribble etc) but he is very solid defensively and helps his FB to shut down a side of the pitch, it's why managers like him that he works so hard defensively and in the press. He also adds a bit of experience to the winger group which is otherwise untested once we let Dolan leave. I wouldn't start him but he is a useful guy to have in the squad and to come of the bench when defending a lead/draw.

People are quick to call for a more exciting attacker like Markanday but then slam him for being lazy defensively; ideally a player should do both (Dolan on one of his good days is close in that regard).

Also we know any replacement would just be cheaper and worse...

No issue with Hedges staying he's a  good squad man and probably won't be on big money but i just hope Ismael sees him as more of an away day starter than home one

Or preferably he isn't seen as a starter at all if we can get something fresher in attacking wise.

Markanday is certainly not an exciting winger.

Well, unless you ask rigger.

Agree, he's not shown anything to suggest he's championship.. Would love to see him step up and prove me wrong.

Not relied upon in League One playoffs by the underdogs. Get rid. Take whatever you can get.

Look at Khadra who was in every sense better than Markanday, same age and had a decent time here which caught the attention of Sheff U.  There he began to struggle in a side with bigger demands and expectations so now hes gone to somewhere a bit less demanding.

Markanday will never step up at best he can be a squad player with the odd good cameo maybe but knowing how light our squads end up he'll have to start games.

Very best solution is hope a bid comes in and get some money back.

He's a training keeper, at our level you have to contract lads to do this. Up and down the land clubs from Step 2 through 5 will have keepers who are paid expenses (or contracted) to purely be a body in training, both to support the keepers and lighten the load on keepers for finishing work to give the Pro's a rest. This lad will be no different, Eastham and Hilton have been fulfilling the role for us for years.

We've got about 5 of them. We don't need him. He's 22 and pretty low down the backup keeper rankings. It's an odd contract to give.

If you are referring to Eastham, Goddard & Kahn, they are all out of contract this summer.  Hilton also left in January

That being said, I still see little point in Barrett being given a new contract

The way people are describing Hedges, he would make an ideal wing-back.

I have never said Markanday is either exciting or a winger. What I have said is that he is better than Dolan. I have always advocated that Markanday would be best played centrally.

Well it’s a moot point now, he’s off

I imagine his option will be triggered, just because it's the easy option for now.

Well Mark it wasn't triggered and the easy option wasn't taken here

I'd rather keep Goddard or even Kahn. Young enough to be useable as u21 regulars or emergency bench cover that doesn't use a squad space.

Unfortunately can't cross from deep (or anywhere really) to be effective as a wing back imo.

Hedges is a bit of conundrum. Great energy, quite strong, reasonable technique for 1-2s etc, can create goals by coming inside and poking the ball through for the forwards as he has a few times recently. But for a midfield player has absolute zero long passing game and always has his head down. On the ball his perception of what's going on doesn't exist beyond 10 yards from where he has the ball.

I'd definitely keep him as he's useful, particularly when we are looking to keep it tight defensively and have someone to carry the ball up the pitch. But as Tom says we really should try improve on him so he becomes a bench player.

In fact, Khan has had a 1 year option activated and Goddard has been offered a new deal.

Interesting to see that we are still collecting keepers like they're pokemon cards but have released shit tons of players elsewhere. I'm confused by this 'strategy'.

However it certainly makes sense to say bye to Vale, Eastham, Whitehall (sadly, too many injury concerns), Gilsenan (same as Whitehall), Forshaw (thank fuck), and most of the ones released.

Surprised to see Markanday released though, didn't we have a 1 year option? Surely we could have got a small fee for him, or at least a sell on. We paid money for him, a fair bit, you'd think we want some return for that. I can only think his wages are too high for the level of club we think would be interested.

Don’t celebrate too soon…

‘As the summer transfer window progresses, the club will keep in close contact with midfielder Adam Forshaw, who made 17 appearances after arriving at Rovers from Plymouth Argyle in January, however the 33-year-old is entitled to explore other options.’

we paid 500k for him, but he has hardly been a success at Orient in the second half and was on the bench for their playoffs game.

How much do you really think we would get and surely its best we done the right thing and get rid, he isn't good enough and we didn't take easy call as others say we would?

Forshaw I imagine they have low balled and will approach him late in the window (similar to McFadzean last summer) if he hasn't sorted himself out by then

Markanday not being offered anything may show just how little money the manager has to play with next season.
