Ricky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Iโm quite happy with the Tavares signing. Good age and has played in England for the majority of his life so knows the English leagues. Not played many games as a pro but hopefully he just needs to push on. Stature wise he looks a perfect championship midfielder.ย 1 Quote
Norbert Rassragr Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Which of Travis or Tronstad is going now Tavares has signed? We know we don't do squad depth. Quote

roversfan99 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago It will be interesting to see if there is a piece with a Portugese journalist in the Telegraph to give us more detail about what we are getting. It was Tavares' first full season from what I can see of his senior career and he only started 15 and completed 2 games which is a bit surprising as a central midfielder. Ability aside, it would surely be a big ask to expect him to play week in week out in the Championship all of a sudden. It has the feel of a project signing, they both do. Tavares has played very little senior football really and couldnt maintain a regular spot, and De Neve often played at full back and it seemingly was a bit of a surprise that we signed him. Hopefully they will be accompanied by more proven players and we have seen some attributes that suit what we want to do and allow then to really kick on. 1 Quote

Cantwell went for less than 2million and this fella has over 30million worth of transfer fees paid for him he will play in a top division and his wages letโs not even get started on thoseย ย The point was values can deteriorate rapidly, and there have been plenty others. I just used an easy to understand Rovers example. Another one might be Rodwell, had about 25 mill of fees he had moved for, probably equivalent to 50 mill now. Came here for free, and not because he had forced his club's hand but cos they didn't want him. I already agreed this guy is out of our reach, I'm just saying his move last summer is considerably more relevant. Quote

Paul Mani Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Ok, Iโll address the elephant in the roomโฆ.weโve just spent (upto) ยฃ2m on a player!? Wow, was not expecting that! I donโt believe that itโs because weโre selling Travis either, not because I trust them, but because thatโs not the way they / we work. We donโt spend money that comes in (as shown by the Wharton, Szmodics sales). We certainly donโt buy a player โin anticipationโ of selling a player either. Based on everything thatโs been made public, my belief is that theyโre pushing ahead with plans as per VIโs wishes. Itโs been documented that we were after a box to box number 8 and theyโve gone and got one. 1 Quote
DutchRover Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The 2m must be heavily weighted in add-ons, can't imagine we have paid more than about 800k for the transfer, which itself would be spread across the 3 years. 3 Quote
AJW Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Relatively excited at the prospect of spending a reasonable amount of money on a player .. absolutely terrified of the thought that Travis now likely to be leaving Quote

Rodwell was consistently injured played less than 50 games in 3 seasons (which was played out publicly) and was frozen out - granted he actually did well for us but itโs not the same Carmo signed for forest and they immediately sent him on loan how/why not sure but he went to a team in Europa league so if you deem that move more relevant itโs still a million miles away from rovers statusย Quote

It is a high risk approach - coming from different leagues and countries where settling in is a bit of an unknown. Of course, there is no guarantee they will improveย - and we will have to wait to see them play t judge whether they are already good enough for the Championship or not. 1 Quote

Yep a deal 'up to 2 million' can mean any number of things and it's most likely it's a few hundred grand per year then a load of add on's IF he hits certain targets' Still they've committed about 2 and a half million now over the next few years including the Belgium lad so that IS re-investment although we all still dream of a 5 million pound striker ! These lads wages will be low and i'm on the other side when it comes to how these are paid for we don't spend unless there's been some sales or room made on the wage bill so i fully expect by summers end the buys v outs will balance somehow. Tugayisgod Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Early days yet in the window but just wondering from the business already done that there may be less reliance on the loans market this time round.? 3 permanent signings, certainly you could imagine that rather than giving Forshaw another 12 months they could have considered a youngster on loan. Maybe they have come to the conclusion that at the end of the day it's just wasted money ? Certainly, apart from centre halves, the loan market hasn't been that great for us. Tyler Morton, Leighton Clarkson, Andy Moran, ACD, Ayari, were all disappointing midfield signings. As I say, but early yet but maybe a change of thinking ?ย 2 Quote
vinotherover Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Its about time the club start doing this right get travis out the door as soon as possible for the best price now. Buy cheap prospects build up if possible over a few years as well as academy players sell in prime or for a good price rinse and repeat this is the club we are now Quote

Stick a massive promotion add on in there then do everything you can to hamper promotion. A foreign team having a quick gander at our league finish last season could easily think a promotion bid is a possibility this season too I suppose.... 1 Quote
