If it looks fishy.

Smells fishy.

It absolutely is fishy.

It all adds to my suspicions that the people involved from the start, never did really go away, they just blended into the background a little better.

Why do the owners not want to sell, despite all the grief they are currently getting at home and abroad? They don't want to fund us, they won't listen to offers and they are prepared to go to court for permission to throw millions away, but all is above board.Β

Ennis, Leo, Tele etc signed up by Broughton as squad back up/development players cost about 2 million between them and were shite contributing virtually nothing.

However he got out of jail getting a few quid back so financially not much harm done but on the field it badly cost us because there was nothing to fall back on when needed.

There's a bigger risk to it than the Prem loans and i think we've yet to see one of these types of signings come to fruition so lets hope this recruitment lot have done their homework beyond looking at running stats.

Sure, I understand where you're coming from, and I have no clue so I'll ask, but do you know how much we spent on loan fees on people like Woodrow, ACD, Beck etc because with the names stated above we at least recouped some value, whereas the loans are just sunk cost.Β

I'm not lumping Becks performances in there with the rest btw, I appreciate what he did last season. However, the others were also not that great of an option to fall back on and we still have nothing to show for it, other than highlighting his talent for other clubs this year.

My wife was company secretary for a large FTSE 250 company.

The external auditors who came to the office were often young & inexperienced and working to a checklist.Β  If they asked for a document, they didn't know what should look like and she could give them anything.Β  They were just happy that they could tick a box to say they had seen the document.

She used to tell the partners of the auditors that she should be charging them for training their staff in what they should actually be looking for.

Funny you should say this, I'm actually a stat accounting manager for a large multinational, and 90% of my job is teaching junior external auditors how accounting works because they mostly studied film and history.Β

Nixon, on Bluesky is saying about the second player due in this week...

"I can't even find him on google".

Sounds promising!

That will be because he doesn’t know his name

He says he knows the name, but has never heard of him, and google doesn't even bring anything up.

Of course, he might have been told the wrong name to start with!

Can we perhaps sign a player from one of the other relegated sides in Belgium? You know, just for a bit of variety.Β πŸ™ƒ

Alebiosu sounds on paper like an even less inspired signing than De Neve, who was at least a starter in that side. Any more players from Belgium this summer and it's going to become the new version of all the Portuguese players that signed in summer 2012.

That being said, if JRC is indeed out the door then this feels like a straight replacement and backup to Brittain (hopefully). Maybe Rovers will use the rest of the supposed JRC money to finally laund Kapuadi, who is the only player we've been linked with that seems like he would actually, genuinely improve the team.

It all seems a bit desperate, doesn't it? Granted we've not seen any of these new players kick a ball yet, but none of them make me think "yeah that'll improve the starting 11". It feels much more like squad fillers ahoy while Rudy spins his wheel of fortune / misery on who we bring in next.

I suppose compared to last summer it's still early days on Rovers recruitment. Wasn't it the last week of pre-season when they signed a bunch of players over the course of a week? I remember Ohashi and Gueye played 45 mins each in a friendly the week before the first game of the season.

If we get 1m as some say for JRC that's great business, JRC is a squad filler not automatic 1st team (my opinion)

Also let O'Riordan go.

Tom Atcheson has been training with the first team squad so far in pre season, seems he is the next one they want to push through.

After that probably looking at Litherland who is also highly rated.

They both went on loan to the National League North last year - you'd think both would be better served out on loan again than making up the numbers backing up Hyam, Carter et al.

Completely agree.

Cheap back ups though, and that's what matters here.

I'm starting to presume that what they've done is scrap most of the scouting folk and implemented some sort of AI protocol to identify players based on age/speed/estimated value using a filter function...

Β

I think there was talk of Sheffield United doing this. Genuinely being serious because it certainly looks that way to me.Β

Description from a Swiss commentator onlineΒ

An absolute workhorse, great at winning the ball and driving it forward. The perfect box-to-box midfielder.

Β

If we've not a pot to piss in, is pace and strength a bad call...
