I think it's been a better start to the window than we've had in previous years, that's for sure.

Biggest failure so far has been losing Batth, that's a big loss. Big question marks over the future of Trav, Tronstad, and Brittain.

Given our limited budget, I think the fall back cover signings make sense but are not massively exciting. Equally it would be silly to blow the budget on squad players.Β

The two central midfielders I do think are good signings , only based on my limited knowledge of them. Our central midfield lacks running power and ballΒ  carrying ability so those two address that. I think Trav will go but we'll prob keep Tronstad for the last year of his contract given he likely doesn't have a huge transfer value anyway.

No real headway made in attacking positions yet, but they cost more and were always likely to be additions made later in the window.Β

Think we need 4 more players - CD, Striker, RW, and a versatile attacking midfielder/winger type.Β

But we've given ourselves a good headstart this window whereas we usually have it all to do.

Our budget is for squad players.

We know what happens here. The deal just fizzles away and hes back in Switzerland early next week.

Then he signs for another club and it’s - β€œ We tried but we couldn’t quite get the deal done β€œ.

Can't say I have a great deal of confidence that the club will get this resolved.Β

And as this is probably the 1 signing of the 4 that was the most interesting, i'm not wholly surprised if we fail to get it over the line.

Iv barely commented on this lad because I immediately thought it was too good to be true Iv man friends as Celtic fans who were adamant last week he was going to them. Maybe our push for him has them back in for him either way doesn’t look great on the club….again

I mean his club could also be holding out confirming, like Chansiri is doing with Gassama and Rangers

From the last 4/5 windows is impossible to not think this is our issue, don't you agree? Just think about it.

Come on...Whoever thinks this deal is now happening is in fantasy land. The lad was wanted by Celtic and Sunderland.

Only one man to blame for this...Pasha.

Probably his agent planting a news story, more than anything.Β

Yeah I was just playing devil's advocate, no need to be so passive aggressive in the Friday sunshine.

Me too, he seemed to be an unusually exciting signing and so feared the worst. We have learnt the hard way that there is never a β€˜done deal’ at Blackburn Rovers until they are on the pitch and kicking a ball around in Blue and White, just ask O’Brien, Brierley and Maguire !

Wouldn’t surprise me if Elliot’s story was bull. Remember him saying a player wasn’t linked for him to sign a few hours later. Also with how quiet we are regarding transfers why would anyone release a story to local press for the deal to get scupperedΒ

If so, its almost certainly Gestede/Pasha using the old Waggott contract negotiations playbook

1 - Offer a salary package that the player is happy with

2 - Get the player over for medical etc

3 - Try a second lowball offer in the hope of saving a few quid, hoping that they player feels invested enough in the move rather than telling them to f off

Shameful that the club is actually known to do this.

Of course it is a nominal fee.

Or do you think Β£500k is big bucks as a transfer fee in the championship( it probably only reaches that figure if clauses are met appearances etc)

We have probably paid an initial 300 grand for himΒ

I reckon someone has come in with a better offer.

If i know this club, and I think I do by now, this doesn't get done.

They have probably let the cat out of the bag , in the hope some other club comes along with a better offer .

Then say 'we can't compete with X Y & Z '

Yep.

Jackson has seemingly jumped the gun and may have alerted other interested parties in the process.

Only one party to blame if it doesn't go through though, the Club for not being willing to pay the going rate.

If a player/agent thinks they can get a better offer elsewhere they will alert other clubs. No questions about it.Β

If we think this is the player for us, it's up to us to get the deal over the line.
