alexanders Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago FFP and they way the big boys have changed everything has destroyed so much. I agree that Venkys have been horrible owners in a lot of aspects, but it is impossible to say if we would be better off with other owners or the existing owners. Football has changed a lot the last decade and unfortunately in favour of the big few. Just look at Club World cup. Its farcical. Donald Trump handing over a throphy in a meaningless cup. Far too much talk these days of projects, pathways, development.Β It is a way of lots of people making lots of money. These owners and their goons in the shadows will NEVER allow us to benefit from such a model in any event. It needs stability, reinvestment, good management, all in short supply here.Β Selling Adam Wharton did not, as far as I can see, benefit Blackburn Rovers in any way. It didn't release important funds for facilities or new players, it didn't lead to a better future, it just meant the revolting owners saved themselves the need to transfer their own funds from India. Whoop de doo.Β Remember that we aren't a club that offers Championship level wages or even makes an effort to keep important players like our academy developed captain. So what's the point?Β Even when they make the grade and go on to become Championship standard players we will either sell them and see none of the cash or release them because we can't be bothered paying them the going rate.Β How do young players get through to first team squad? How are they meant to develop and get used to first team tactic unless you play them and get them training with the first team like Ismael and JDT.Β So I take it you don't agree with Ismael creating a pathway for Tyjon to play and develop here?Β Β Quote
roversfan99 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago We are nowhere near FFP limits. And pretty easy to say that we would be better off without Venkys. 4 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 27 minutes ago, roversfan99 said: Indeed. We cant just build a smaller squad and assume numerous graduates can have a breakthrough season similtaneously. It puts far too much pressure on them when we have no idea if they are currently ready, and its very unlikely that they all will be. So how do young players come through to first team squad then? Good job Adam Wharton pathway wasn't blocked by senior player isn't it.Β Why can't you have 25 man with Michalski, Montgomery and Tyjon part of that squad?Β Quote

Makes me puke.Β We've been straight with FFP for a while and recently hasΒ probably been the best opportunity in a decade to invest in the squad significantly. Coupled with the good periods of form and league position at Christmas by not 1 not 2 but 3 previous head coaches the time was never better to give the club a real push but no they didn't want to know.Β Oh so conveniently theyΒ can'tΒ invest because there is a problem over in India of their own making. Some might go out on loan at various points too. All I am saying is we shouldnt just assume that they are ready. So for example, we need a right back if Brittain goes. We needed Tavares and will need to replace Travis/Tronstad if they go. Montgomery shouldnt be seen as a replacement in any of those positions. If hes ready, theres no reason that he cant also play minutes as well. But if hes not, then we dont have to still repeatedly flog him. Equally, we need cover for Cantwell. We shouldnt just assume that Tyjon is ready now. Its unfair to do so. Quote

Another poster literally described the player as terrible yesterday. I think its a decent enough signing and the above "issue" was simply a neutral observation. He wasnt the first choice. I find it interesting that this is precisely what happened with JDT and Adam Wharton - he got his opportunity when it arose during the season after impressing in the cup, seized it and never looked back. It was a natural process - he was clearly good enough and his transition into the first team was handled well by the coaching staff.Β This obsession however with 'creating a pathway' - the purpose of Blackburn Rovers and the nature of the Championship beast is not to 'create pathways' for youngsters - it is to win games and try to be successful AS A CLUB, not for individuals and their transfer values or so Venky stooges can be congratulated on future sales.Β 2 Quote

Michalski and Tyjon are highly rated and Montgomery has shown enough he can made an impact at this level, so why wouldnt you develop them given we already invest in our academy and why we have category 1 statusΒ It absolutely could do, if they're thrown into the first team too quickly and make loads of mistakes. Then dent their confidence in the process and their careers never recover. Countless examples of that over the years. Quote

Anyhow, the key point is, if he hasn't been signed as Weimann's direct replacement, we have neither replaced Batth nor Weimann yet and bear in mind Batth was an outstanding performer for us last season and Weimann had excellent impact and delivered when we needed it with both goals and assists. Age is irrelevant - it's the quality and ability to perform - Cowans, Moran, Gale etc and presently for other clubs Messi (38), Ronaldo (40), Modric (39) etc Itβs certainly more of an irrelevance for centre backs. Them and goalkeepers tend to go on the longest. Quote

Just bare individual stats donβt always tell a proper story in a team game. If youβre a full back and your winger isnβt pulling his weight defensively you may get beaten from time to time. 1 Quote
