At the minute if we're freezing out Pears, and not including the likes of Barrett, Pratt & Leonard I make it that we have 22 players that we would need to register this season.

To me that says we should be signing 2 today and keeping a spot open for January.

I predict we're done now though, despite desperately needing a midfielder, and another who can play across the front line.

We're an injury away from having to play Taveres and Montgomery in our central midfield which is beyond scary.

By that, I mean that any remaining funds should go towards getting players for now as we are still short.

I'd say that any buy to loan deal would suggest the opposite.ย

Yeah once the window closes that includes loans.ย

A number of years ago, they had an extra window for loans but thay has long since gone.

You can only then sign free agents and they would have had to be free agents when the window closed.

Is it not the case that National League teams can still sign loans outside the window? Or am I misremembering? That's what I had in mind when I said younger guys, because we wouldn't loan our better/older youth to that level.

If we go into this season with Goddard and Michalski as back up GKs then we are 100% screwed if Toth picks up an injury.

I think I just worked out "the plan"

In the EFL, a club can take out an emergency goalkeeper loan for up to a week, with weekly extensions, if all their senior professional goalkeepers are unavailable due to injury, suspension, or international duty. A professional goalkeeper, by EFL definition, is a non-contract player who has started a senior match five or more times. The club must apply to the league, which considers the cases individually.ย

Goddard may throw a spanner in the works due to his games played last season during his loan in Ireland, but as cases are considered individually, I think they will be ok getting this past a panel

ย

Essentially cut costs (big surprise) and get an emergency loan in if Toth ends up injured/suspended,ย  voila, no back up keeper wages to pay for the season

Outs - one 'surprise' departure (Hyam) and Pears contract terminated by mutual consent.

Ins - one permanent and two loans.ย

Yep, any teams in the National League or below can sign short term loansย  outside of the window.

Rovers sent loads out to these levels last season (20 or so over the course of the season)

Our academy output on keepers is really disappointing. Of course you could look towards Raya who's easily the best but even he improved massively after he moved to Arsenal rather than under Benson and team.

Not heard a single rumour about Pears finding a club all summer but imagine he is one they are trying to push out the door today.

If I had my way would be buying another striker and winger with pedigree today.

The Pears thing is strange, despite the stick he gets in here he's a good championship keeper, in league 1 he'd easily be one of the best if he was prepared to drop.ย

Pathetic if we don't sign anyone a decent centre mid is a must.Taveres hasnt been great and looks like he can't last more than 60 minutes and they don't know when Baradji will be fit to playย

This has been a shite window, ripping apart the team that finished 7th and nothing but cheap gambles as replacements

Gestede ,Owen, Pasha and Venkys out

More direct football in lge 1 more physical stuff in the box so he'd need a very good defence in front of him.

Everything else i agree he should be fine though i'd never rate him as good in the Champ he's bang average but a good number 2.ย  If he stays he should be put back on the bench it makes no sense having a rookie on there whilst paying Pears probably 5 times as much for nothing.

As others have said if he goes and we find ourselves in a relegation scrap with only the rookie as cover it's one of the stupidest things that's gone on at this club and that really is saying something.

Expect a forward and centre midfielder in. Don't expect loans in.ย

Think Pears contract will be terminate before the deadline. Leonard to Peterborough, Batty on loan, a couple of young players go out on loan.ย

Something has clearly happened behind the scenes here and why he hasnt feature at all. Was that Hair Transplant story about Pears true?ย

Prediction:

In: none ('we tried')

Out: Batty, Pears, Leonard

Overall: 5/10 window. We are not stronger than before it started and are desperately light on Championship experience. Some interesting signings but we are in for a tough, tough season

Agree and as much as pears started strong last year he's too unreliable for me. Silly mistakes, head in hands clearances, certainly had us peeping through our fingers at times.ย

If the rumoured fees are to be believed - not certain it has been cheap. Totally agree on the gamble bit though - Gestede and VI (and our season) will hinge on whether these gambles pay off or not - as there isn't enough experience in what remains of last year's team to keep us out of trouble if they don't at least partially pay off.

I don't imagine the club would divulge information like that in a public domain.

But that being said, I don't think I've ever seen an official club photo where a cap is being worn by a player on every available image.
