I think it's becoming very clear neither Trav or Tronstad will be signing new deals.Β

They haven't been offered them.Β

Why does it necessarily have to be a Travis replacement?. We know how important it is to have a strong squad in the Championship and this has been half of our issue that we never have a decent bench to try and change games. This could mean we are selling Buckley, Rankin-Costello, Garrett? Our main midfield four options to start with could be Tronstad, Travis, TavaresΒ & Mannsverk - not dreadful by any means with a couple of youngsters under these four.

Nothing to suggest we are selling Travis aside from lazy journalism linking him to Derby and Tronstad has said himself he wants to stay. We are more likely to let Travis walk for free next year than sell him this year. For now he is under contract for this coming season.

Β

Ain't no way this club is seemingly trying to source a new midfielder in the 2 million quid bracket without preparing to lose one of the current ones.

Our first fixture is 1 month today and our squad looks in the worst condition it has been in since we went down with Coyle.

Unless there is a massive recruitment drive in the next 4 weeks we are going to have disadvantaged ourselves for a chance of points in the 5 games available in August or a potential 15 points.Β

All because we are a complete circus.

..And there's all us fans thinking it was going to be 'Project Promotion'Β this Season.

Talks have happened, I'm sure of that. The players either have demands the club cannot match or they've told the club that they want to go.

That just illustrates why trying to build a home grown team at our level is an impossibility. The best talent is spirited away before they’ve even played a first team game. What’s a million to teams like that, it’s nothing.

You’re just hoping that you can keep a couple of late developers that slip through the net.

Basically.

You're on a hiding to nothing having an Academy outside of the PL these days.Β

Do the noises around Brittain sound positive?

I also think you underestimate the importance of Travis and Tronstad. Especially losing both at the same time. We already needed a midfielder so if they both go we need 2 more on top of the one we already have.

There have been more reports around Brittain saying things are progressing well.Β

I agree losing both at the same time would be a big blow. I would rather lose Travis than Tronstad.Β

The last time either player was asked they said they hadn't.

Why automatically assume that all of a sudden either player is now making unrealistic demands to Rovers ?

Told JRC has gone.

Not seen it reported elsewhere.

I hope so. He's not good enough. Had one purple patch in the second half of JDTs first season, but other than that he's been pretty awful.

I wish him well, but he's not good enough for the Championship right now, or possibly ever.

Am I the only one who thinks Tronstad and Travis are solid but limited championship players who at soon to be aged 30 and 28 respectively aren’t worth offering circa 20k a week for 3 years that they will most certainly get else where?

Yes. Right now they are 2 of our best players, both absolutely vital members of the squad who deserve to be paid the going rate.

I don't care about how much money the board want to save on wages, we need proven players on the pitch. These cost-cuts are unsustainable, we'll probably find ourselves in League One before long.

Probably. We are completely spineless without those two in midfield.

No, there's another poster on here that doesn't rate Tronstad either.

He's rightfully mocked.

Amen.

When Travis and Tronstad got injured we were relegation form.

If Brittain joins the exodus, we could be struggling without replacements.

Defensive midfield pairing are vital. I think they complement each other very well. And both needed if VL wants to play a high press. Trav and Tronstad can run all day in there

Plus--how many others have we lost in this way in recent years?

Yo\ur moniker says it all.

Well they hadn't happened as of April, as confirmed publicly by all three of Travis, Tronstad and Brittain.

Think I'll be believing them rather than the shady Venky stooges overseeing an exodus of talent.

So unless something drastic has changed in the 2 months since April I think your confidence is misplaced.

And the club could match their demands, just as it could carry a bigger wage bill when Mowbray was manager. Just like it could reinvest more of the Β£40 million received.

It is choosing not to. Choice.Β

Tronstad maybe.Β

Travis is the beating heart of the team. We were nearly relegated without him in 23/24 and the season de-railedΒ  last season after he got injured at Millwall.

Even with Tronstad, although I'm not a particular fan, if he goes I'd still expect any replacement to be a cheaper downgrade
