Seems like marketing 101 to me (not often you can say that about this lot).

A game on the day a new kit goes on sale, wear it. Who cares if we are at home, it’s. a. friendly.

Does the same argument not apply to wearing the new home kit?

Anyway, should be great. Dark yellows v Light yellows.

"Come on you burnt yellows!"

All we need is for the trim to be maroon or claret to cap it off. Even if it's black I can never really remember us wearing a yellow and black trimmed shirt before. When we've had a yellow shirt the trim has usually been blue and rightly so.

My assumption with kit suppliers is that there is some kind of tiering system. Access to new, bespoke designs would mean a bigger outlay from the club. Otherwise you get basic template designs and get to stick something on the collar and claim it's a "nod" to something.

"Hi Macron, we play in reversed blue and white halves"

"Best we can offer you is a blue and white halved kit from the stock - otherwise there's an additional charge for such a bespoke design."

"Thank you for your time, we'll be taking our business elsewhere"

I think it’s incredibly unlikely that Macron are to blame for the reversed halves issue…they clearly managed it last season & for this season’s green kit…

So two teams in their away kit then?

Brilliant!

I've no idea why the FF didn't object to this in the strongest possible terms. To me it seems obvious our "prestige" home friendly should be used to showcase OUR new home kit.

Sod Everton.

Non controversial? Really?

No, Everton are in their home kit, we’re in our away.
It’s only a shirt, no need to get so upset. The FF didn’t object, nah.
Some were surprised, some didn’t care (Hiya), as it’s only a friendly.

If that makes it a dereliction of duty, so be it.

There are bags of things to criticise the current administration over, I don’t think this is one of them, personally.

You remember the yellow & black ones now though? 😉

I recall the HSA one.

I dont recall the Umbro one without a logo at all.

I would still maintain that over the years when we've had a yellow kit the trim has GENERALLY been blue and it is supposed to be an anniversary kit not that the powers that be seem to have bothered about that.

"It's only a shirt". Sums up everything wrong with the Forum.

Next stop - " They were only blue and white halves - I'm not sure what you're bothered about"

In fact it seems we're half way there already.

I’m with RevidgeBlue on this. Who can forget the pride we all had when Tony Parkes dished out the proper Rovers shirts for the presentation at Wembley in 1992

It's a shirt in one pre-season match.

As ever, the offer still stands for you to represent BRFCS on the Forum instead of sniping on here.

Our marketing people get (rightly so) pelters sometimes but on this occasion I can see the logic. They go on sale on Saturday morning and there will be many, particularly kids who want to wear the replica shirt we are playing in (my granddaughter is one of them).

If this helps to shift a few more shirts on Saturday then I say well done.

The problem there is that it was not our marketing people who were inspired to do this. It was allegedly a request from Everton to benefit them, which Rovers readily went along with

This feels like a huge overreaction to me.

Far more pressing things to be concerned about than wearing an away strip for a home friendly.

I'm also old enough to remember us playing in our away kit at home to Man City in 1993.

Then you’ll remember the boos which went around Ewood as well

Allegedly is the key word.

Have we not played a competitive game at Ewood in our away kit once for some reason to do with the away side (either both kits they brought were a colour clash or they forgot one or something)?

I feel like it's happened in the last 30 years at some point.

It seems to me that it's an arrangement that suits both parties - Everton have what they want and it's a perfect marketing opportunity for Rovers to play a game in the kit we will have launched 24 hours before. Of course it wouldn't be acceptable if it was a competitive game but for an early pre-season kickabout?

Although I'm somewhat confused by the Everton post above in that case.

We wore our away kit at home to Basel in the Uefa Cup in 06/07 - not sure why. Looks like Basel were in all white.

What happened to marketing the home kit?

If flogging a few extra shirts is the only metric then we should play the opening home game in that horrible dark green kit - that should shift a few more of them.

It's a constant dumbing down and erosion of traditions and standards, drip, drip, drip and people appear to be lapping it up.

They've already changed the halves on the home shirt, now we're having to play in away colours at home to suit the opposition.

I hope any-one who doesn't mind the switch doesn't have the temerity to complain when we eventually unveil a non halved home kit.

After all it's only a shirt.
