DutchRover Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Birmingham for their 150th anniversary get the promise of a 62,000 seater stadium and owners who clearly plan to spend whatever it takes to become a Prem club... We...can't even release an anniversary kit and will quite probably get relegated. C'est la vie 7 1 Quote
Mike Graham Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Does anyone know how the Rovers Museum we were promised is getting on? Rovers* put in two National Lottery bids (the 2nd I am told was via the Community Trust) but were turned down. The agreed fallback position was a dedicated museum space in a room in the Darwen End. Perhaps Plan D was a couple more display cases that only the prawn sandwich brigade 🥟 and those on ground tours get to see? It will be interesting to hear how much we have been let down 🧐 *why would the BIG Lottery Fund give a grant to a limited company owned by Indian big ‘hitters? 2 Quote

What has happened to the museum proposal? Why did the 2 lottery bids fail? Why do Rovers marketing bods and the Community Trust fail to do any activities or building support outside of the BwD borders? Edited November 21 by Mike Graham Quote

As someone who used to represent the staff at National Museums Liverpool (NML) I am aware that the Liverpool FC Museum is part of the publicly funded museums in the city rather than being run and controlled by the football club. It is an effective partnership arrangement. If Rovers were to have done similar they would have had to ensure a Rovers museum was part of BwD museums in order to receive public funding. 2 Quote

They stated that the Liverpool project was one of the most successful that they had funded in terms of feedback from the public. Quote
JHRover Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Is all this related to why the Rovers 150th exhibition was based at Blackburn Museum (oddly ending months before the actual anniversary) rather than at Ewood Park? Quote
Parsonblue Posted November 21 Posted November 21 The exhibition at the Museum was a Blackburn Museum event. The club did loan them a number of items which was acknowledged by the Museum at the time. The Museum plan events well in advance and the Rovers exhibition was always due to end when it did as the Museum had another event which directly followed it. Quote

Seems they might have provided funding to the Liverpool Foundation rather than the Club. Quote
Parsonblue Posted November 21 Posted November 21 If memory serves me, it was for a portable Liverpool FC memory bus with various memorabilia inside. Quote

Imo if the bus was going to all parts of the City that's one thing (even though Liverpool are more than capable of funding it themselves) but Im not sure why any professional Football Club should expect funding for an exhibition on Club premises. If you read what the Heritage Lottery funds, it's clear that they are there to preserve heritage wherever they may find it. Sadly, they have a limited amount of money and an avalanche of worthy applicants. At the seminar I attended they made it clear that they welcomed bids from any sporting club - amateur or professional. Quote

For that reason I certainly wouldn't consider Liverpool FC to be worthy applicants and probably not Rovers. It's a bit like Bill Gates asking for a charitable hand out. Whether or not we SHOULD have received funding though isnt really relevant. If we were turned down, what else have we done about it? I think we can guess the answer. Quote
... Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Will Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton receive their 150th caps? You'd like to think so. Wonder if they've even been approached Quote

Or Celtic in the Anglo-Scottish cup when it is revived 😉 And surely the pre-season game against Barcelona is already being worked on by someone at the club? Quote

To my knowledge, nobody has spoken out against the regime. You listen to the interviews, all the warm words, but nobody hammering the owners. Is it more important to have a few free tickets a season, than to protect this club and its fans? So disappointing, an opportunity missed. Here we have an ex-footballer Julian Dicks, West Ham to his core, giving it to the crap owners. Pity our lot stay silent and in the shadows. Quote
