It isnt when the selling club wants £5m. Its an utterly pointless bid.

I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes and how far exact the two clubs are apart in terms of valuation. Pretty sure it’s not £5m excl. add-ons though.

Once the window closes the Venky supporters will be out in force pointing to Jorgensen and the 'bids' for the Barnsley lads as evidence of Venkys' amazing support for the club.

Of course in reality whatever we've paid for Jorgensen comes out of the money we got from Wrexham for Hyam on deadline day, then there's the next instalment of Adam Wharton's Palace money coming in the next week or so, and we won't be buying the Barnsley lad anyway, so you don't get credit for trying and failing.

Bristol City are flush with funds after receiving a £10m sell-on for Seymenyo.

And they are going to spend it bringing in good players and improving their squad ??? …. ARE THEY MAD !!!!

We definitely need a battering ram/ beast forward to give us another option. I’d rather that than another powder puff technical player that isn’t up to the meat pie nature of the championship.

It's just negotiation, don't think for a minute Barnsley expect to get £5m for him, but they.ad a selling club aim high while the buying club go with a low ball offer.

Usually means they meet somewhere in the middle, which will probably still be toouch for us

They also definitely aren't going to take 1.5 mill. I'd imagine the least that's possible is 3 million and we are nowhere near that either.

Agree, that's what I said

You said it was negotiation. I'm saying it's public relations. We have no intention of buying this player.

Hes not the type to score a load of goals. An aggressive midfielder who wins the ball back but lacks the technical ability to do very well at this level.

I was incorrect (I assumed he was someone else)

But he’s just got them a point vs Southampton 😞

Absolutely.

It just makes us look ridiculous. Christ, if the IMPROVED bid was £1.5m, what must the first bid have been like?

Im surprised other Clubs bother even picking the phone up when we ring.

it was reported as being 6 figures wasn't it?  so somewhere south of £1M

For a player the selling Club want £5m for!

I mean if the bid was £3m upwards or £3m rising to a max £5m with add ons then you still might not land the player but at least it would come into the category of being a serious offer rather than taking the piss.

everyone in their relevant back offices no doubt start laughing with derision when rovers come with a bid for their players

For the last few windows we've been told we made bids for strikers for big money. (3 off the top of my head)

Sambou Soumano

Mostafa Mohamad

Willem Geubbels

A lot of noise from Nixon who seemed very confident that we were fronting up the money..... But again, we were offering well under the value they wanted

Stinks of the "we tried but...."

IF, and it's a big IF, the money is there, it only seems to be there for these below market value bids.... Because it always seems to dissappear by the start of the following window, and we need up flapping and scraping around for the next load of tosh

That one was definitely just propaganda.

And still, each & every window, we have the "lets wait and see what happens this window" mob

Fool me once....

And just to add...

We are still over squad size, so there is going to be sacrificial lambs in the next week or so..... It took nearly 2 weeks to sell Gueye when he was clearly not part of the plans moving forward

History doesn't lie, and I've got 0 faith in our higher ups to do anything remotely sensible

I think Ribeiro was left out of the squad this weekend because he is already on his way

He posted, then shortly afterwards deleted, a picture of him waving on social media last week

Then its probably a case of them loaning out Pratt (as they have to play Cashin)  and/or maybe not registering Hedges due to his injury

Wasn't Ribeiro one of Gestede's exciting summer (re-)signings? Perfect for the 4-2-3-1 Ismael wanted to play and solid competition for Pickering one of our high earners?

They must have been key players this season according to "the plan", oh wait....

I'd be after the best City / Man U / Arsenal / Chelsea / Liverpool Academy striker they have in their youth system ready to test men's football.

Need us to guarantee minutes? Well we've no bugger else, so that's an easy sell.

I wouldn't be fruitlessly chasing a lad from League One who a) we clearly can't afford and b) you'd have to convince that we're not going to be in League One ourselves next year.
