v Sheffield Wednesday (a) - 29/12/2025

I've created this now because I just wanted to check / moan about something. I saw yesterday on the Club's twitter page that tickets for this game go off sale today and there will be no sales on the day at Hillsborough, and that purchases are online only. 

This staggers me even by recent football standards, that tickets are going off sale over 6 days before the game despite there being no chance of a sell out and with them being skint. 

It seems to be a deliberate attempt to deter people from making a late decision to attend, ignoring that most people will have other things to worry about and spend their money on in the lead up to Christmas and that plenty would like to make a late decision on whether to go, perhaps after the Middlesbrough game. 

Mind boggling. I was tempted to go but can't commit until later in the week. Looks like the decision has been made for me.

No tickets on the day is a Sheff Wed decision (why this has become a thing across the division post Covid I’ve no idea when few games sell out), not being able to buy one for almost a week before the game (didn’t realise there were six bank holidays between the 23rd and 29th) is obviously ours.

Sheffield Wednesday won't have told us to take tickets off sale 6 days before the game.

It's because the whole club closes down at 4pm today and isn't back open until Tuesday the 30th, so they have taken the easy option of just taking them off sale.

It's pretty ridiculous, especially with it being a digital ticket game so nobody needs to get them in the post or collect them from Ewood.

I was just chatting to some people today about the lack of home games and potentially going to this. Oh well.

You'd think one of the few benefits to an 'online only' or digital ticket regime would be that it would allow people to buy more flexibly and for the home club to more easily monitor demand and make decisions, as well as not having to worry about the problems of Christmas staffing and closures.

I imagine part of this is that between now and 29th (we don't open Mondays for some crackpot reason) the shop and staff are probably only in for a few hours overall.

But no, it seems the opposite is true and the unprecedented step of refusing to sell them for a whole 6 days over Christmas is the preferred course of action. Really odd behaviour from two skint and struggling clubs who need every penny and attendee they can get

Anyhow, Sheff Wed obviously don't seem concerned about shifting a few hundred more tickets at £30 a pop plus concourse spending, and Rovers don't seem bothered about ensuring more fans can go and support the team as it battles relegation.

So I again ask myself, why would I bother?

A lot of Rovers fans will be wanting to go to this game with many making a last minute decision. It seems that both clubs are unwilling to be flexible enough to accommodate them. 

i don’t understand why they can’t be available online. Surely Ticketmaster doesn’t shut down for Xmas!

If it's a digital ticket game, why on earth can they not be sold over the Christmas period online without the need for the Club to be open?

Glad I bought 5 last night, I wasn’t aware of this ludicrous decision. 

I remember when this kind of thing was all we had to moan about, how times change…..

Surely the whole idea of digital tickets is buy anytime, anywhere as long as they are available.

No need for restrictions it goes against the whole point of these 'progressive' ideologies.

Was talking to a Nobber the other day and he said i think there allocation there was only about 2k so maybe it's something to do with that.

Trying to gauge if they should ask for a few more.
