Everybody is very opinionated on here. People are quick to give opinions and not so quick to admit they were wrong. Its now time to own up to opinions you had which have been proven to be incorrect. I'n recent times, my two biggies are:- * Raya will not be good enough to be a number one. We'd have been better keeping Simon Eastwood. * Downing's signing is a knee jerk reaction and will be of no benefit to this club whatsoever. Anyone else want to confess?

Bolton fans starting to wake up now. J-Lowe getting called "hopeless" and a "downgrade" amongst other things after getting beat 3-0 at home.

But he did say we had no money, and then we suddenly had money once we got linked (via other sources) to Freeman and Brereton. Now he's hedging his bets again. The wobbling wordsmith hasn't broke a Rovers transfer since Coyle was shipped out.
-
I don't think anyone is saying he will be the next Shearer. The argument was whether the Shearer deal was anything like the Brereton deal. In my opinion Shearer had already proved himself top class in the Premier league. If the lad does well then £8million will be fair enough. However it's such a big amount in recent times that if he fails then it really could be the last time we see the V's chequebook seriously opened. It's a big call by TM if it goes through.

Hence why the poster asked: "For someone who has just claimed to watch a lot of football and read about stats on transfer market, surely you would know who the 3 players mentioned are? 2 of them both played first team football on a regular basis in the championship" Although I'm sure that if Nixon links us with them they will suddenly all turn into the second coming.
-
Eh? Next to nothing? Shearer had scored 44 goals for Southampton, (23 in the top flight), had scored on his England debut and had just been taken to the Euro 92 finals.

Hope we loan some more of the fringe players out so they can come back and benefit the club one way or another in the future. About 20 years ago, Roy Hodgson loaned a young Damien Johnson out to Nottingham Forest and he returned a more experienced player, starting over 40 times for Rovers and returning as Professinal Development Lead Coach with much success. That was much better loan deal for Rovers than a year later when, during the 10 month long loan window, Hodgson brought in experienced Italian midfielder Dario Marcolin. Even Roy's loans in were poor. I hope whoever we bring in on loan has more of an impact than Super Dario!!!

I think we should establish ourselves in this league. You think we should just survive, Each to their own.

Transfer Window - Success or Failure
Hasta replied to roversfan99's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
If that is true then it shows that Rovers had all summer to plan their transfer activity but only submitted the bid last minute before the window ended. Otherwise Bereton would have had time to sleep on it. Either way it still points to recruitment failure. -
I think we thought that we might get cheap bids accepted, and that also we might be able to get players to rock the boat to get a move (the lad at Charlton). It hasn't happened. We obviously had targets and we failed to get them. Quite why that is we don't know but it's been a relatively poor summer of recruitment up to Thursday. How much money was actually available is all speculation.
-
I'd expect a striker. Possibly Gally but would hope for someone better personally.
-
We have obviously had a budget to spend on players which would improve the squad whilst mindful that it has to keep us within the realms of our salary structure and FFP. Mowbray and the scouts jjob was to identify and sign players which fit within that budget. He obviously wanted Bauer, a wide man and a striker and they have failed the achieve that. I'd rather we didn't buy any last minute knee jerk reaction players unless they have always been on the radar. We may well salvage the situation with loans but I would imagine Mowbray himself is disappointed with how it has panned out.

If we spend £5million on a player, he has to be the first name on the team sheet doesn't he?
-
I fear your mistake was believing it.

QPR forum is full of people saying why would we sell our best player on the last day of the transfer deadline. There's no-one saying get shut or he's replaceable. If we somehow start buying the best players from clubs in our own league then Id settle for that.
-
Leaked by QPR to put pressure on Rovers, only for Fernandes to then say he's not being sold?
-
I've not been critical of Rovers transfer policy at all this summer. However if we wait till 24 hours before the deadline to then launch a £4million bid for a player who they are saying is definitely not for sale it doesn't look great planning.

If McGinn is definitely better than what's we have then it makes sense to bring hIm in. You don't make progress being loyal all the time. Sometimes you have to make though decisions and he sounds like he could be a significantly better genuine midfielder than what we have. Agree on Downing. He did a great job last year and will give us an option of a 4th CB in the squad but we do need to get another in ASAP. The first Ipswich goal yesterday was another of those that a big ugly centre half, rather than the more cultured variety which we currently have, may have got his head on and cleared.

Match Thread Ipswich away match thread
Hasta replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yep. I've Just had a quick look and of the first 10 people to name a starting XI on this thread, 5 of them had Saumuel in there. The rest had Palmer in there who was never going to start. Id have put Rothwell in there instead personally though. -

Half of Rovers fans would probably have put thosetwo in their starting XI so they aren't really controversial. Putting someone like Downing or Comway in would be controversial. -

I don't think it's the result. It's the manner it came about. I only tuned in after about 15 minutes but without being spectacular we looked fairly comfortable. The game started to change after the substitutions and after each one we got more and more shaky. Williams was getting a roasting in that last period of the game and yet nothing was really done to help him out. Once Dack went off we rally did struggle to get out. Ipswich were relatively punchless apart from Edward so it was a kick in the teeth to see them equalise with a fluke. Overall I fear for Ipswich more than us. I think the frustration is that tactically we didn't help ourselves. It's easy in Hindisight but it seems mad that a team who were starting to get overrun in a tiring midfield, and who were getting shredded down their left side, ended up not utlilising Bell or Travis. On the plus side, it's good to see Graham and Dack off the mark early. I thought the two centre halves did well (although Mulgrew does back off from pace) and after an apparent shaky start we did seem to press well and control the game till we tired.
