  1. Well Burnley don't and it hasn't done them any harm. They playing at a higher level and yrt it's always Tarkowski and Mee barring injuries every game
  2. Yes, he was a really good winger in his day, fast and tricky. He had a trick were he'd deliberately over run the ball then bring it through with his trailing leg. I've never seen anybody else do it. The defender would hesitate thinking Tommy had lost the ball, he'd be past them before they realised he hadn't. Even watching from the stands he did me every time !
  3. I thought Vale got a bit lucky with the right foot shot, should have gone with his left really.
  4. Great pass for the first goal. What the keeper was doing I don't know, must have got a deflection off the full back.
  5. Yes Brian Hill was a lightweight, I never really saw him have a good game. Don Hutchins was another left winger who left you longing for the likes of Mike Harrison. I liked Don Martin but I always thought he would have been better playing off a centre forward rather than leading the line himself. Adam Blacklaw was on the way down in more ways than one. Having said that, Newton and Wilson were the best full back pairing in that league and better than some in the First Division. Alan Hunter was the best centre half in the Division and I'd give a lot to have Ken Knighton and Eamon Rogers in our midfield now. Meccy was on the way up and John Connelly still had goals in his game although his blistering pace had gone. Our coaching was old hat, somebody like Malcolm Allison would have sorted the job out. Looking at Blackpool, Green and Hutchison were great players as was Alan Suddick, a real class act in midfield.
  6. There's a lad at Rochdale called Humphries who I think would do ok at an higher level maybe next season. Too soon at the moment though. The prodigy they have called Baah looks to be going to City, he's very raw but he could be a real player in the future.
  7. Who knows ? It does give us that option. I think one of them will be on the bench but with Lenihan you've always a chance of a card or an injury. It makes you wonder what's going on with Ayala.
  8. I was thinking along those lines Jim but he's 37. I think it might be a Danny Graham to Sunderland move. IE A season too far. The Glenn Murray of a couple of years back would have done me. We'll soon see. Where's the new Marcus Bent ?
  9. If you could have signed one of those four who would it have been ?
  10. I'll let you know when I've actually seen him play. Bell was supposed to be the long term left back solution and we also had a dabble with Hart. Regarding full backs our recent record isn't great, especially if you throw Caddis into the equation. I'm keeping my money in my pocket at the moment.
  11. Tommy Hutch - he was a real handful . Blackpool got him from the Scottish lower leagues for peanuts. I remember Eamon Rogers playing against him as an emergency right back and more than holding his own. That tells you what a versatile player Eamon was.
  12. For me Fred Pickering was as good as Shearer in every way bar one. Fred was brilliant when he was in the mood but he had days when it wasn't working for him. Shearer rarely had off days. There could be games when he'd not see the ball for ages then bang, he'd get a pass and the ball would be in the back of the net.
  13. I wouldn't be rushing to get him back. He's always got a mistake in him. He's like a lot of lower level centre halves. He's ok withstanding a siege and when he's defending the six yard box. It's when the ball is in the other half, or when his team is in possession, he tends to switch off and get caught out.
  14. Johannson scored a goal any striker would have been proud of in the earlier round against City. They were two good players for Rovers. When they were just starting out I had hopes they would develop into a long term partnership. That didn't happen but to try and make out that the players we have now are somehow better is laughable.
  15. He was good enough win a cup winners medal with us playing out of position. None of our other " stars " has come near since then. We can't even get past the Doncasters of the football world with what we have at the moment.
  16. That is the problem - their ego's get in the way. They'll be thinking " we can easily out football this lot " but you need to work to get the right to play your football first.
  17. You might not have noticed but we aren't playing in the PL at the moment. I'd take either over Johnson or a lad who'll be going back to his parent club in May.
  18. Who else at this level has lumped £12 million plus on two strikers who can't hold down a regular place ?
  19. Now where have I heard that before ? We've got two " investments " playing at the moment. When they can get a game that is.
  20. Yeah really, If we had those two now we'd be in a much position regarding goals conceded.
  21. I don't know how you can say a player you've never seen kick a ball for us is the " long term number 1" left back. Bell had a better, bigger, reputation than this lad and he hasn't got near to making the grade. There was a time when I though Tiny Taylor and Johanneson were going to be our long term centre backs. Look how that worked out.
  22. You know it, I know it, and the thing is - the players know it as well.
  23. A lot of these players like Kipre come from impoverished backgrounds, some of them are the principal source of income for large extended families. I don't blame any of them for looking for the best deal possible.
