  1. I was there that day. We were crap. The real game was at Bury earlier in the week, we did the business then.
  2. You either get the ball or you impede the player in that situation. Just enough to hold him up.
  3. There doesn’t seem to be a promotion winning combination there to me. I wouldn’t honestly swap our two, Ayala and Wharton, for any of those as centre backs. Taylor is a decent full back but centre half ? Of course the thing with Ayala is keeping the bugger fit. Harwood-Bellis could well make a really good player in the future but that’s a way off yet. The lad we had on loan from Brighton last season was a top centre half at this level. Of course then we have young Phillips coming though who’s reputed to be the next Mike England, that’s if he doesn’t slope off to Spurs, like Mike did.
  4. He made a complete balls up of that headed chance in the first half.
  5. There are managers in the bottom tier of the football league that have been dabbling with it. That’s just silly. Their players are at that level for a reason.
  6. That’s good to hear. His favoured left foot was shown to good effect for Brererton’s goal but being a bit one footed nearly caused him to make a balls up of that chance for the first goal. Luckily he made amends with a short ball to the scorer.
  7. No, we showed him up a Deepdale last season. He’d be ok on the bench though.
  8. Twine was/is injured I believe. They rated Van Den Bergh at Preston but we made him look very average when we caned them at Deepdale last season. Another very young player. I’m all for youth but you need a few old heads to get out of this division.
  9. England would fit right in with todays football. As well as being a colossus of a defender he was a great footballer with a terrific passing range off either foot.
  10. Mike England, the best centre half I ever saw play in the flesh. An awesome player
  11. A class act, especially in his time at Stoke. When he lost that bit of pace you need to play up front he dropped back into midfield and ran the show. Only good players can do that.
  12. There aren’t many players about that play like Diaz does. He likes to run from deep with the ball at his feet. Davies likes to play off the centre half. Different styles, I’d still have Davies on loan though.
  13. Nobody is saying “ he’s shit “ , well I’m not anyway. The thing is he had failings as a young player that he’s obviously still got now. Decision making being his biggest failing.
  14. I would have though another first team ready centre half is a must.
  15. Who cares what they think. “ Winners are grinners and losers can please themselves “.
  16. Dack will get a game against Hartlepools.
  17. It’s nice to have goals coming from midfield players again though. That was another failing of Mowbray’s teams.
  18. Yeah you definitely don’t want them to score first. They’ve got the ale house team tactics off to a fine art.
  19. He’s playing in the old “ inside left “ position. He’s much better running from deep. I don’t think he could play up against a centre half as effectively.
  20. It’s no bad thing that he was quiet today. Him playing deeper let’s Travis off the leash a bit. Didn’t he move the ball out to the right nicely to start the move that led to one of the goals ?
  21. Yeah, not long ago he wouldn’t have rode that “ tackle “, he would have gone over.
  22. Yep, he always had that in him. In added time as well, just stupid.
  23. I was having a look through my wardrobe out in Spain recently. I came across a “ Philosophy Football “ tee shirt I bought years ago. It features a quote from John Paul Sartre- “ In Football Everything Is Complicated By The Presence Of The Opposite Team “. Other choices are available also. Henrik Ibsen - “ If The Game Is Lost Your Earthly Life Is Wasted “. Jaques Derrida - “ Beyond The Touchline There Is Nothing “. Che Guevara - “ It’s Not Just A Simple Game, It’s A Weapon Of The Revolution “. I think I’ll wear the Derrida one this afternoon to try and bring us some good luck.
