Championship season 2019-20
Mattyblue replied to arbitro's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Looking forward to the next one. I’m a little too into the schadenfreude of it all. Worrying really. -
Of course it is justified. A talented player in danger of throwing it away. I am glad TM is taking him to task. Just interesting it is only young players that are called out publicly. I suppose if the ‘dressing room is run by the senior pros’ it isn’t surprising.
-
And Morecambe...
-
Young? He’d been in the team for 8 years and was England captain when that happened!
-
Then give him a good bollocking behind closed doors. Compare him to Ferguson who would protect young players to the hilt in public - to the extent that Giggs wasn’t even allowed to talk to the press for years. Or a Lee Sharpe who enjoyed the lifestyle but was never hung out to dry in public, but eventually sold when he was no longer up to the mark. Snidey doing the dressing down in the media when the player has no right of reply.

Fine as in at this stage we ain’t getting a keeper of much standing willing to hang around Brockhall for a few months. What isn’t fine is having Leutwiler here at all, but ‘we are where we afe’.
-
End of the day we need a third keeper, so fine. The issue was giving Leutwiler a new deal. Shocker of a keeper who is only an injury away from a sustained run in the team.
-
It’s only ever young lads called out in the media. Really strange when they are the one more likely to need an arm round them. The likes of Bell, Smallwood and Evans have put in many a stinker yet I’ve never heard a negative word in the press from him. For such a ‘good human’ he needs to work on his emotional intelligence.

Doesn’t sound like he’ll be in the side any time soon... https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/17869279.rovers-winger-needs-kick-start-career-boss-warns/

The Shakespeare and Post Office Vaults are cracking boozers.

You reckon any of that will happen? Without the go to of a Football League match every weekend they will quickly be forgotten about. A great advantage that Blackpool fans had in contrast were regular league fixtures, that gave protesting/boycotting fans a focal point, they could get to the gates of Bloomfield Road on a match day etc, local media coverage etc. I’m afraid Bury will vanish from the game’s consciousness rapidly and most other club’s fans won’t particularly give a toss in a few weeks over a passing comment at their game; ‘shame about Bury, weren’t it?’

The Whitebirk stadium would’ve been great for the Hyndburn fans though...

Forums like this are seeing the wider picture of a corrupt industry, lack of governance and all the rest of it. But your general fan on Facebook groups doesn’t see it that way, ‘why is it the league’s fault?’, ‘they spent too much’ etc etc.

Which was always a strong possibility to occur going off their track record. Many on here said a late deal would be struck. You need to stop being so patronising to other posters when it comes to such matters as you get as much wrong as right yourself. -
Tickets for Reading away. £20 for ST holders and £18 in the family area. Looking on their website that is the price for members every week (no Cat A+ and the rest of it) until it goes up on match day. An affluent area of the country too...

Must’ve been you that didn’t get it... -
Yeah I thought it was always Whitebirk/Rishton.
-
That is what they are doing, but let’s be frank trying to milk more and more out of our rump of 8,600 paid season ticket holders and a couple of thousand walk ones is tinkering around the edges, and is obviously an order from up high to reduce losses year in year out, but will make minimal difference in establishing a top Championship side.

He needs to meet him again and have a reconciliation, Cloughie style...

Only Mogga snaps by lecturing a teenage ball boy in the middle of a game on ‘the importance of values and being a good human being’.

Sheffield united away- League cup
Mattyblue replied to Bigdoggsteel's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
In the Hughes era too we continued to reach semi final after semi final. Some great memories that surely is what we crave as fans? Alas, to finish 17th and hit the PL jackpot for another season is all that matters, to the extent a few extra games a year in order to actually achieve something is deemed beyond the pale. -

5 days until the window shuts. You’d imagine they’ll have a new team by September. Though not sure who’d be signing them.. -

We did it from a position of strength in the post Jack John Williams era. We were already where we wanted to be, largely a mid ranking top flight side. A squad of quality PL footballers added to or taken away from piecemeal year in year out. Now this is the same in some ways, the big difference is that we are instead a mid ranking second tier side. And I don’t see this model having us doing much better than that. In many ways, that’s football, ‘you cut your cloth’ and all that. But we can’t be expecting promotion fights. -

In an FFP world, for a club of our income levels, this ‘model’ is as good as any. But for me, it isn’t a plan that will see us as a consistent top 6 side. Too many variables with young players, some just don’t ‘polish up’ very well, football is awash with tales of ‘potential’ that fell by the wayside since time immemorial . Why the owners are happy to see us tread water in the second tier for year after year as they inject in more and more capital they haven’t a hope in hell of seeing a return on is another matter entirely.
