I think with the dominance of elite clubs, glory hunting is now as bad as it’s ever been. Or perhaps it just seems worse to us as we look forward to our 8th year outside the top flight, and some parents just go for the easy option of letting their kid have a Liverpool/City shirt like the rest of their class. You start to lose young ‘uns from Rovers supporting families and it’s game over, as the rest of the area has seemingly succumbed already. Bleurgh.

Man Utd and their ‘fans’, I find, just think they support a massive club that historically has won a lot. Liverpool fans have this earnest view that they are some kind of mythical, almost spiritual club that does ‘things differently’, of ‘Shanks’, ‘the Boot Room’, ‘the working class’, ‘the Liverpool way’, ‘Scouse, not English’ (Even the non Scouse ones), a ‘Latin Club’ (under Rafa) and on it goes. In reality their late 70s and 80s domination has just created two generations of plastics across the country that feeds these myths, that our pathetic media eggs on.
