  1. I’d have to agree. Getting into the Championship is good, but not exciting. It’s more about getting rid of the embarrassment of being in League 1.
  2. So why can’t he do it for country then, if he’s so world class?
  3. Just thinking that myself. Someone said we’ve only one of a handful of our opening games too, recently...
  4. It’s not irrelevant though. To be world truely world class, you need to be able to perform in any situation, at any given time. Messi hasn’t done this for his country, without his Barcelona team around him. Therefore, that leads me to conclude he couldn’t do it over here. Additionally, you talk about him not being the player he had been and use the excuse about Maradona managing. Again, world class players are able to perform under any circumstance. Compare this, Ronaldo, who probably hasn’t had anything like the team Messi has had around him internationally, but still won the last international tournement, mostly by himself. Also, saying that Argentina’s side isn’t full of quality right now is laughable. The debate about both leagues is summed up the TV money in the Premier League and La Liga. Spain gets nowhere near the kind of money we do over here, for top flight football. Can you really imagine him scoring goals against Neil Warnock’s Cardiff or Mark Hughes’ Southampton? He’d be flatten within the first 5 minutes. The physical nature’s of England is well reknowned. I highly doubt he’d be walking goals in.
  5. Messi has played in La Liga all his life. The only time he’s done anything is when he’s played at Barcelona, against teams in La Liga. With all due respect, the majority of teams in La Liga practically roll over when they play against Real Madrid and Barcelona. When he’s played for his country, he’s done very little to note, in comparison In my eyes, Ronaldo was pretty much the finished product when he went over there. The fact he’s gone over there and scored more than a goal game tells you that. Could he do that over here? I highly doubt it. The reason for the obsession of considering whether Messi could play in England is the fact that the standard of the league is more intense and physical, than over there. I highly doubt he would be able to.
  6. He’a bang average without a world-class Barca team around him. He’s proved that time and time again for country. Put him at Crystal Palace and he’d do absolutely nothing. I even think that if you put him at Man City, and I still think he’d struggle because of how he’s built.
  7. I think it ultimately shows that Ronaldo is a far better player than Messi. I also think it highlights how poor La Liga is. Yes Ronaldo is playing there currently, but he’s performed it in the Premier League too.
  8. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/every-championship-transfer-confirmed-done-1674585.amp This is every transfer so far in the Championship -up to and including Thursday. It’s not just us that’s moving slow chaps!
  9. You can add Wigan to that list- Paul ‘Gobshite’ Cook and his team won’t be able to get away with their bullying again this season. Swansea dont exactly look in a great state either currently. That’s 2, and I bet there’s more.
  10. Because he’s well passed it. I honestly think it’s a waste of our wage budget, especially with how tight it is. This has got to be one of the quietest summers that’s I can remember- I’ve given up checking the Blackburn Rovers News Now sight- it just feels like it’s the same few players being linked. Although I’m not worried yet, without a few fresh faces, next season will be a battle again. One wonders what a signing might have done for season ticket figures too...
  11. When are they planning to increase the budget for stadium maintenance? The roof on the Blackburn End is leaking, close to where I sit. Looking it around the stadium, it needs a good clean too. I also would imagine there’s other issues.
  12. David Dunn- didn’t Sven take Danny Murphy and someone else instead?
  13. Probably the worst league in Europe, and I’m speaking as someone who has Scottish family. There is absolutely no competition and there hasn’t been since Aberdeen and Dundee United made a fist of it in the 80s. This is why there’s very little money that gets paid out for TV deals. This is why Scottish players leave in their droves. As one Celtic fan recently described it to me: “Scottish fitba is pish.”
  14. Waggot has said no figures will be released, in order to us the best chance when negotiating, and rightly so in my eyes.
  15. Disagree- West Brom and Swansea are closer to that than Leeds. Leeds will go under the radar because it’s been common practice for many years to hire and fire. West Brom have foreign owner who doesn’t really know what’s going on at the club. They’re broke, meaning they’re currently in limbo. I’ll bet some decision there are Venky-like in summer! Swansea have a number of owners which are currently at war with each other. The fans absolutely detest the Yanks for the lack of investment, despite millions coming in from the TV deal. Add to the fact they’ve avoided relegation a good few times by the skin of their teeth, just like Sunderland did, they could well be heading down again. Common denominator in all of this? Foreign owners! With all this new TV money, why are there very few British owners?
  16. He sounds just like Danny Murphy according to Stoke fans, on BBC Sport. Him and Glen Johnson have just been released from Stoke.
  17. 2-0 to England at half time, and they’re playing some good, entertaining football for a change. Dele Ali has been the standout so far.
  18. We need an older bloke to appear and restore our faith in experienced players! I’m still having nightmares about Etuhu, never mind Danny Murphy ?
  19. They’re all foreign though. 2 of those were given teams which even Owen Coyle could succeed at. It’d be nice to see a recently retired England international do well, but it just doesn’t happen. The last one which managed in this division was Stuart Pearce, and he was bloody awful. Away from Championship, Neville, Barnes and others have failed. Even Gareth Southgate’s a failure in my eyes for his relegation at Boro. The only ex-England international I can think of as doing well in my life time is Steve Coppell.
  20. Wouldn’t be unusual- he hardly gets a game at Cardiff, and probably will less so now, with their promotion.
  21. It’s the inconsistency that worries me. He didn’t get punished for his decision making in League 1, but there’s a far higher chance he will in the Championship, due to the sheer gulf in quality.
  22. For anyone who had the misfortune of Plymouth away, there was a chap there who enjoyed waving a Dingle scarf around.... there must be a couple of them down there.
  23. I can’t see Bruce sticking around if there’s no money to spend! It might be the end of Villa’s long superiority of their rivals too... wonder where I’ve seen that before? Odds on Villa going down?
  24. He can’t be been that bad, can he? He spent most of last season in a decent Bristol City side, who were in the top 6 for a lot of it.
