Premier League season 21/22

Another great result for Frank "the right fit" Lampard. -

I don't think that anyone suggested that he would come back and be at full fitness, that has nothing to do with those games. He wouldn't have been at full throttle playing against kids and would have been using it purely as a fitness gaining exercise, nothing more. If anything, the fact that he has played a fair few games now with and against kids and is still so rusty when it comes to the speed of an actual senior match proves that playing those kids games has a limited worth. -
Why would it be a good idea to not only replace a manager with 9 games to go, but then give it temporarily to a rookie already within his coaching setup? There are 2 reasons why someone might want a change of manager now, as illogical and counterproductive as I think that would be. Firstly to try and salvage our play off hopes, in which case surely youd get someone who has been around the block, a Warnock type. Or secondly with also half an eye into next season, which to me we cant afford to have at the moment, but in which case we would need to get our next manager immediately. Johnson wouldn't provide a bounce or tick either box.

Mowbray, the summer and beyond
roversfan99 replied to TheRovers1994's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I never said that I did know, I said "unless" suggesting a level of unknown. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a repeat of last summer, hopefully not. One thing that is correct though, there certainly isn't any strategy at Venkys HQ. As you say, its taps off, taps (a bit) on, then off, then on, not done with strategey and intelligence but seemingly at random. -

FFP, FFP, FFP. Venkys wouldnt spend 2m on a needed pitch refurb last summer even though it wouldnt qualify under FFP calculations. -

He chucked himself over, it was very soft and we would have been fuming had it been at the other end. Khadra kept chucking himself over, the yellow was warranted for a pathetic dive and he was lucky not to get a second. The "Gavin Ward is a wanker" narrative had been written prior to kick off and he would have taken abuse if he had given us 10 penalties and we had lost. We lost because of us, we can't use the ref as a scapegoat for our own failings. -

You said "You should go to support the players and club you supported." I don't see what gives you the right to tell people why they should attend, implying that they should go no matter what. They should go as and when they please like you and I do going to every home game. You like Waggott seem unable to grasp that like every club, Rovers have lots of different types of fans. Not every fan goes no matter what, nor are we in a position to question that. -

Most of them are off the agenda unless Venkys dont repeat what they did last summer and prevent any reinvestment of a major sale. Theres not a chance that we could afford Gyokeres either. I notice that them promising to attend a game this season has yet to happen. -

Definitely too much focus on the referee again yesterday, as was always going to the case purely based on who it was. It wasn't even a penalty in the first place, Van Hecke chucked himself over and we was lucky to have the penalty in the first place. -

Bell is still shit no matter how it is spun. Jones (a total dickhead) is however doing a brilliant job, and he was the other day on TV (i think after the Boro game) calling Bell out for poor defending leading to a goal. But Bell isn't a player we miss or a player we didn't get enough from, he just isn't very good. -

Do you have the right to tell people what people should be doing with their free time and hard earned money and why? -
Im not one for the ex Burnley songs but I think thats unfair. The support for the team again was brilliant including the chorus of "weve got Dack in attack" after he had missed the penalty.

At the start of the season, would you have considered 2nd to be a minimum requirement? -

There is absolutely not a chance that we bid for Solanke, he would have cost an eight figure fee and it is crazy that such ITK nonsense can become factual. Absolutely gutted tonight, the same issues in front of goal. Sacking Mowbray right now would make zero sense, no matter what people say. We did need another attacker, we didn't have a reasonable budget to get one, but we should have got one on loan. -

What utter rubbish. Every effort? Everything is conditional, strings attached, there is no logic behind any of it. -

None of us know the exact figures or the exact demands. But why is it players thinking that they are better than they actually are? Rothwell knows he can get much more as he could have done in January! Surely its players knowing they can get more elsewhere. -

roversfan99 replied to TheRovers1994's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Venkys refused to authorise a 2m cost (no FFP excuse) earlier this season. Mowbray said that in January that teams were offering him strikers on loan but that he didnt take any because they didnt fit his system, hardly a warchest. Mowbray throughout last summer said that he wanted some of the Armstrong money to reinvest "and polish an asset" but that Venkys had it tough so wouldnt allow it. Much of what you say sounds like self preservation knowing thay they cant slag their owners off in public. The 100m spiel was just Mowbray talking rubbish because at the time he was struggling, not literal. -

Maybe not but I presume Mowbray has an idea: "At this moment it looks as though these players are going to move on." -
Mowbray, the summer and beyond
roversfan99 replied to TheRovers1994's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
So you think that Venkys have been willing to spend money and Mowbray has been unwilling to, unquestioned, because he wants an excuse? Sets fans on fans? Only to the most paranoid of people. Ripped us off with tippy tappy football for 3 years? I certainly wouldnt describe our first season back with Graham winning player of the season as "tippy tappy." -

Travis signed a new contract
roversfan99 replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
No it doesn't, one contract doesn't prove something against 3 others. We seemingly have a strict wage ceiling, and Travis already was essentially contracted here until 2024, he is only 24 years old, he isn't at the point of having one more big move in him, his demands may be lower, he isn't the current captain or as far as we know courting interest elsewhere, its a totally different situation. One of the 3 players wanting to leave, we could have had a fee and 2 players on long term deals had all been logical behind the scenes and the manager was allowed to work without interference from stubborn owners who dont have the foggiest about the club. (By the way, I wonder if they are still attending this season) Great news all the same, Travis is an important player and I suspect the likely captain next season. -

My point was that you had specifically mentioned the last 2 months/2022 and our poor form. I could flip that and say how amazing we was for the 2 months prior, that is the flaw with picking out a couple of months amidst a 9 month season to suit an agenda. It all levels out and we are 4th at the moment so its been a very good season so far over 7 months, lets see where we are after 9 and praise/criticise based on that, rather than fixating on runs of form to suit our arguments. It isn't, I would suggest that the answer perhaps lies between good and bad. I would agree that he has also surprised me, but that job is a unique one, there is no pressure, even relegation can be a symbol of a good job if it is brave, he can play the everyone is against us card so it is hard to judge fully. -

roversfan99 replied to TheRovers1994's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
It certainly wasnt in anyway a put down of Rovers as a club. But Rooney at least claimed that he turned down his boyhood and Premier League club Everton to continue at Derby. You say without too much interference but our manager wanted to sell a player to bring in 2 with the proceeds in January and the owners interfered and wouldnt let him. This season, we also sold our 15m striker and he wasnt given any in the summer to replace him.
