  1. I saw him play against Oldham in his first game for the club and declared him then as the best passer of the ball that Rovers fans has seen in blue and white halves.
  2. For someone suffering from depression this is no advice at all.
  3. Roverandout, I've suffered from depression for over a decade and it's something you need to treat seriously. Happy to be PMed, but do please see you GP soon.
  4. Check out the author's name: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article7065824.ece
  5. Good pubs near Chinatown Den. For range of beers I'd suggest the City Arms, which is near the Town Hall. At the top of king Street, you have Reform, which is a cocktail bar/restaurant, but does half price drinks up 'til 7pm (I think) and is worth a visit for the fantastic decor. On Cross Street you've got the Chop House, and as Colin says, bang in the middle of Chinatown there is the Sevenoaks, which I'd avoid if there's a few of you. The Old Monkey is a boozers pub, and the Waterhouse is spacious and, of course, cheap. As for Cloud 23 I took my son in for his 21st last night. It's tacky and expensive - very Manc you might say! The view is southwards, rather than across the city centre. Worth a visit though. You'll probably have to queue to get in. My favourite in Manchester is the Mark Addy. Brilliant food at realworld prices.
  6. Shocking for all Rovers - and football - fans. There are no words of comfort in these situations.
  7. No doubt that McCarthy is a very gifted player, but.... - he's overweight - has a long, long record of indiscipline Firing on all cylinders McCarthy could have bagged between six and eight goals this season, and we'd be safely in the top half. No wonder Sam is unhappy with him.
  8. Probably the most stupid post I've had the misfortune to read. Astounding.
  9. Barton sounds like some far right thug.
  10. He's a smartly dressed man, and so has met my main criterion.
  11. The Marais is a great district to hang out. My wife and i always stay on the Rue de Oberkampf (sp?) in a small hotel. Great area, smashing bars, and cafes (and a bit cheaper than the central areas).
  12. Which is what r6 does.
  13. The point here FLB is that many of us have tried to argue with r6, and to be honest there is no point. He has made all kind of wild criticisms of Hughes personally and the club in general, which shift over time. He ignores the posts made by Den, Philip, myself and many others. There's no evidence he's ever been to Ewood, or seen any of the players he champions actually play. I'm just very, very bored of self-importance and ignorance. I can cope with one of those, but both at the same time are unbearable.
  14. There's nothing subtle or nuanced about your argument.
  15. Which kinda blows your theory out of the water then rsix. The club does give young players a chance, just not the ones you haven't seen play.
  16. On brave and perceptive (your words not mine) Rover6 you are getting yourself in a fix. You patiently champion virtually any player who's under 21, and castigate the whole club (and football in general) for passing over these wonderful young players (that you've never seen play). If only, if only, they'd listen eh Rover6? And now that you can't convince a single soul that these young lads are good enough for the first team, you say that they should, maybe, possibly, be given a few minutes, perhaps, now and again.... BTw I saw that McEveley was scored two points out of ten in the Observer's fan's voice section .
  17. If the role's that easy why have Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United spent tens of millions on holding midfield players? They could have signed the Axe for next to nothing!
  18. Championship '95 video, and "The Golden Goals Collection". Postage only, or I'll meet up at the ground. Paul
  19. So where did you end up Paal? The truth is that for the size of the city, the food isn't great. CheshireBlue lists some of the better places. I would add Petit Blanc, in terms of its fixed price menu. Not spectacular, but good value. Lounge ten gets good reviews, but there are too many chains, serving only very average stuff at top prices. A case in point is the lack of decent Italian restaurants: I haven't been impressed with San Carlo, Piccolino is better. In Whalley Range you can check out Palmiro. Great when they get it right, but my wife complains that the food's cold! Also away from the city centre, there's the Lime Tree (Service a bit lax in my experience) Rhubarb, and Jem and I, all in Didsbury.
