Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
Tomphil2 replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Did the owners ever even have the pitch issue put to them ? Remember various people have admitted they've never asked them for extra transfer funds because they didn't want to rock the boat. Waggot allegedly costed it up but was he just window dressing and prepping fans with excuses for more players sales and commission for his mates ? IF he did was it then kyboshed by you know who or the V's numerous finance people on the board ? If you're someone wheeling and dealing at this club you don't wan't a huge lump of extra budget going towards a new pitch there's bugger all to be made from that in percentages. Asking owners for more money when your job is based on cost cutting and running within decreasing budgets doesn't look good on you either. Clubs is owned by clowns but the people they have running it are shysters imo. -
Nigeria 2-0 now

I went to that game , the damage was done at Blackpool the week before , when Bailey and Wagstaffe got injured and were unable to play . To add to the misery of the day, a loud speaker announcement , that one of the Aspdens (i think) coach drivers went home at half time and some Rovers fans were stranded .. The weather was similar to today , very cold and snow on the ground . -
I think there’s just one England international older than Duggie still alive mate, Ken Brown the West Ham centre half. A one cap wonder who’s just a few weeks older than Bryan 😬

Only HT at the moment but Nigeria look favourites to me.

v Hull City (a) - FA Cup R3 - 11/01/26

Doherty? he normally plays on the wing, but has played left back once or twice for the U21s (normally later on when we are looking for a goal & run out of subs), so It would be a fair assumption that he would be able to give it a go at wing back Still behind Powell in my opinion though -

Anyone know if he could play wing back? - Today

They beat Tottenham in the final the year before. Think I missed a year out. Sutton beat them in 89, Coventry won the cup in 87😂
-
I have personally spoke to 12 ST holders who are all boycotting the game.

Could be worse. We could have been Millwall this weekend. -
I think Wharton was too deep today. He's more effective further up the pitch. It also looked like he and other Palace players got slightly bullied physically, especially, by Dawson the Macclesfield captain, who had a great game in midfield.
-
Tbf he gave Palace absolutely nothing in this game. He was a real homer today
-
aware of that, Rovers however, seem not to be Should Nigeria win today, Alebiosu will be away for the whole of next week, semi finals on Wednesday, but then 3rd place play off and the final are both next weekend

Harry Leonard with another goal contribution -
You’re right, they won it a few years before that, but still a giant killing in ever sense of the word.

You have to applaud the business model our owners/board are applying. It's been clear for quite a while, that the plan - given the fuss made over academy funding - is to downgrade the squad and fill the first team with academy players. They are on cheap salaries and any transfer money received for them will show as a straight profit. Now most Roers fans would be up in arms about that and rightly so. The solution? Reduce the salary level and target unproven, cheap players from Europe/UK The result? These players are so poor that fans are now happy they are being replaced by academy players - as they can't be any worse. It's evil genius, I tell ya.

The referee blew his whistle as soon as Palace's last attack broke down. He clearly allowed them one last stab at an equaliser.
-
When the injury happened, the Nigerian coach said it would be a two week absence.

I don’t think Coventry were the holders that year ? -

Tawanda Maswanhise , done well at Motherwell since his move from Leicester. Only 23 years. Knows how to score goals. -
There was a sub and one or two other minor delays in extra time so I dont think it was part of a conspiracy to keep Palace in the competition.
-
Wasn't that the biggest FA Cup upset in terms of league places? I notice the referee played almost 8 minutes extra time (of the allotted 6) to give Palace one last chance of an equaliser. Sickening, really.
-
Palace were shite and Wharton didn't look interested today. Well done Macc an entertaining game to watch and Wharton aside always nice to see George Courtneys Palace.... or any Prem team ... lose to low opposition. On the back of Wigan doing Preston last night it's been an interesting start to Cup weekend. Hopefully Rovers Under 21's do us proud tomorrow !

I’m surprised you’re a fan Gav. He was one of the “ Shrewsbury Six “ back in the day. It was an obvious fit-up by the Tory government of the day. When the next Labour government came along they did nothing to right that particular wrong. That was when my doubts first set in about the Labour Party.

I don’t think either of them were particularly mobile, Vale especially.
