He came to a bigger club and that’s a fact - both then and now.
-
I loved Savage as a player, even his shithousery leaving big club to come here. But he would soil his repuation working for these idiots, please stay away Robbie, you should know better, this gig is an impossible task.
-
Savage has had very good reviews from fans of Macclesfield & Forest Green. Had both of those playing some very nice football... but, both of those teams are/were one of the the financial heavyweights in their respective divisions, so it remains to be seen if Savage can be successful when he is coaching one of the paupers in any given division. I also don't think he would put up with Venkys/Pasha/Rudy etc for a second

The chances of the 3 stooges appointing a loose cannon are slim to none.

I want passion and some lunacy on the sideline.

Cantwell annoys the crap out of me - the personality he radiates just makes me want to slap him. Playing wise - he tracks back, tackles and does put a shift in but then fucks up what, for him, should be simple passes that would create chances. Has a tendency to put his teammates under pressure but does make himself available for a return pass - can understand to a degree that it must be difficult playing with players much more technically limited than himself. All said: it is down to the coach to find a way to utilize Cantwell more effectively in an attacking sense but therein lies a big part of our problem. Tronstad aside we have nobody who can reliably do the hard work to be able to push Cantwell further up and be "free". Pretty much every game i have seen has involved Cantwell doing a fair amount of the donkey work. It is also baffling that he still seems unable to see many of the runs that are made ahead of him and i genuinely cannot comprehend why he has also become so shot shy (instructions??) as he gets in fair few positions inside left that cry out for a curling effort towards the far corner. As for our set pieces: make the players watch this game on repeat. Sheff W caused chaos whilst we seemed to aim for areas where we didn't have any players... -

I tend to agree. More Harry Andrews, Jack Hawkins or Dickie Attenborough than Gloria from "It Ant Half Hot Mum" lol -

Savage would be intriguing. Wears his heart on a sleeve. Would get the best out of players. Might save us from the trap door. Boring it wouldn’t be. I am done with boring and failure. Not a good combo. I want to be inspired. If I am, I am sure the players would be. Klopp wasn’t a winner because he was a master tactician. He was, but he was a people person. I am not sure about Bilic. I don’t know enough of his people skills. He has had a mixed bag of results. All I know is we have to get something out of Norwich to stay on the right track. That would give a prospective manager confidence that he can build on the momentum. let’s hope Johnson is the current day Tony Parkes caretaker manager mould. According to ai the resemblance is uncanny🤔

Nothing. Just another who some friendly agent has constantly tried to get through the door again here. Standard lower league fodder.

TBH, don't think too many us are going to be excited by the appointment. New guy has to be better than Ismael but have virtually zero confidence in Pasha, Gestede and Owen getting it right. Any of Coleman, Martin, Karanka and Mowbray appointed then that's me totally finished with Rovers. Think Challinor is the dark horse - got him at 20/1 and now down to 6/1.
-
Savage won't touch this unless they made him an offer he couldn't refuse and a budget to work with. He's carving himself out a decent career where he is and if successful he could end up with a crack at something decent. Besides that old hippy feasting on gov subsidies will want a compensation package that would make Rovers run a mile.

He should just be glad his surname isn't Six-Seven - or his life wouldn't be worth living around kids

Exactly what iv'e been thinking for months and the main issue i had with Ismael. It's completely pointless most of the time football wise and all it has delivered is knackered players, injuries and late goals conceded. Need to get a coach in who actually coaches a bit of football into them in the final third so we can create chances. The hard running should be done across the park and in particular midfield not all the forwards trying to pin the opposition in their own box but never seeing the ball nor a chance aside from pouncing on the odd mistake. It's like oh we can't create chances with the ball so we'll just try and force mistakes as our number 1 creative philosophy. -
You're right. I stand corrected.
-
Spot on. Too many winning positions ending as draws and too many 'drawing' positions ending as losses. Relegated on goal difference (think it was only 1 or 2 goals difference) was devastating given the points we 'threw away' under Mowbray. Mulgrew, Conway and Graham - who in today's team can come remotely close to the quality those three had.
-
🤣 seems a bit inane to double barrel using the exact same name! Does sound amusingly like somebody reporting a 14 goal thriller though.

Just by way of illustration his very first game was away at Oxford I think and we went one up, retreated into our shells as was Mowbray's tendancy, and ending up drawing 1-1. Stuart (formerly of this parish) went absolutely ballistic and was giving it "What the **** has he done to deserve to be even anywhere near this job etc etc" I thought that was harsh for his first game and rememember leaping to Mowbray's defence. The bigger point is that he had plenty of chance overall to get us out of it, the two games we eventually won at the end turned out to be too late and came after a run of no wins in seven I think. But as we keep saying the relegation wasn't all his fault or even primarily his fault.
-
Folk seem to be forgetting that we haven't paid compensation for a manager since 2013, and that was a very small amount. It won't be anyone already in a job who is coming here.

What I noticed about this whole 'pressing from the front' we seem to attempt the player will break their neck chasing down a player but very rarely ever actually challenge or block a pass. It's almost like they want to show willing but it's absolutely pointless. Except for ohashi we very rarely win possession back up front. -
I’ll bite! Mowbray had a great few years here in the middle of his run but I still think he could have done more in that first season, he didn’t pick up a team stranded at the bottom and we threw away too many leads.
