1864roverite Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 reading about Bumely and nobend has cheered me up as I am so tired from my night shift !! lets put Nicko straight, the reality of both clubs is that NEITHRER have substantial monetary funds for the transfer market. Bumley are in debt upto their three fingered hands and nobend are not much better off with NO financial backing, not even from the supposedly legendary Trev hemmings or their latest Asian financial whizzkid we have read about. Both have sub 11000 crowds at the moment and imo neither provide an attraction of being able to make it into the top 12 clubs in The Championship. As far someone being able to make them reach the magical land of the Premiership, please dont make me laugh any louder. Those comments are the reason why I refuse to even pick up the Mirror, its pie in the sky, total twaddle and even the late Bob Lord is probably chuckling from his grave at that notion.
modes98 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 But as of this morning Burnley is wide open. Grayson is a live one, but by no means a cert because of the other developments. Any further on Newell? I would have to rename my lounge as i couldn't have it named after a dingles manager. Grayson seems to be a good young manager, shame for them to have a good one but £100 is to tempting and they only screw up his career anyway.
bob fleming Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 If Burnley get the guy I know about you will be playing them in local derbies in the Premier League... Surely not?

You're quite right about Hemmings. He doesn't invest in his own family run companies never mind a monetary black hole like a football club.
den Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 According to Radio Lancs, Sheff Wed refused Burnley permission to talk to Laws. The commentator, a SW fan said why should he go to a club with no fans.

LDRover Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Surely not? LOL!!! Heard a few of the dings here saying that they've heard that Shearer's their next boss.
bob fleming Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Heard a few of the dings here saying that they've heard that Shearer's their next boss. Duncan at a push. Alan? Hahahahahahahahahaha etc

It would not take much to get a side OUT of the Championship. A few million, properly spent, would do the job. If Watford could do it two years ago and Palace before them then there is no reason why Burnley can't. The late Bob Lord's team won the title incidentally, so that was probably a bad example to make for running them down... The point is that the guy Brendan Flood has cash, which makes him a rarity. They have a decent squad and just need a couple of better players and they could easily make the play-offs. If Plymouth and skint Coventry can be close to the top six right now, then Burnley with a few bob have reason to believe they could have a go this season. If you look at the table they are only FOUR points off the top six. You would know that if you checked the Mirror. Pie in the sky? I don't think so. Anyway, what are you afraid of if they get there?

Nobody who has Rovers at heart fears Burnley in any way, shape or form. They are our age old, traditional rivals and such we do not wish to see them succeed at anything let alone have a shot at The Premier League and it's riches. Being from the West of Scotland I would have thought that you would understand rivalries.
bob fleming Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Anyway, what are you afraid of if they get there? Just the Darwen End roof really.
eddiewac Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 lol! heres hoping they get relegated, although it might be ok having them for one season, just to laugh at them go down with the lowest points ever - 0
trs Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Speaking as someone who attended the games between us in the late seventies and early eighties, I for one would love to see us play em every season (17 years was far to long) Not having our true "derby" for so long has been a crying shame! Alright, I know we dont want em above us but I would love to take that chance. Bring the buggers on I say

Being from the West of Scotland I would have thought that you would understand rivalries. Correct - I would rather see Partick Thistle in the SPL and playing Rangers and Celtic rather than be facing Clyde four times a season. It's not much of a rivalry if Burnley are a division below you. It would be better if they were in the Premier League too.

laughatthedingles Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I'd love the dingles to be a yo-yo team, in the prem, beaten twice by us then endure relegation every two years, sounds brill!

Burnley will not appoint a new boss until after the weekend. Draw your own conclusions. And I still say it is better to play and beat a rival than just talk about them. It kind of settles the argument.

roversmum Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Along the lines of the possibility of a Dingle promotion, David Unsworth was interviewed in the Chorley Guardian this week. Not online yet, but he says: On August 11, 2007, Unsworth signed for Burnley on a one-year contract and is fighting for promotion......... "The team is good enough to get promoted I believe and we have a good chairman. There is a lot of young talent coming through and I know they are very proud of the youth development here."

nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Interesting Paul Jewell news. He has spoken to the Republic of Ireland headhunters today - but I am not sure he will take it. Seems he gets offered a lot of jobs just now and I think this one could be his, but I believe he will pass on it.
nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 There's a twist in the Steve Bruce to Wigan tale too. Wigan will pay £2 million for him, but there is a separate fee for Eric Black - his number two. Birmingham might even want to keep him as boss because [a] they are hard-up and there might be a takeover. Of course [c] he's a good coach. As Bruce cannot coach - what do you expect for £40,000-a-week - it may be an issue. But I think he will move and then get a new coach if Blackie doesn't come running.

Seems he gets offered a lot of jobs just now and I think this one could be his, but I believe he will pass on it. I'm a little surprised at how many offers he gets. It seems as though he was overlooked for a few jobs in the summer...and he must've been second-guessing himself then...but now, as the season gets on, the crisis clubs get desperate for a recognizable manager to replace the rubbish they've just binned. Would being the Republic of Ireland's gaffer be a step up over Wigan?
