Oh dear eddie, I share with you some concern about Mark Hughes ability to play games well tactically but then suggesting SGE as the solution for our lack of tactics is seriously dumb.

Besides which by now he will have a grandchild going to a University in Rome....

and if their wages could be the same (which they wouldn't be), I'd happily do a Sven-Hughes swap.

You have got to be daft right? He has spent a fortune at City and has done no better than us. If he came to Rovers he wouldn't have any money. He is a checkbook manager a la Souness.

Well I'm glad that I was able to get a reaction.

Seriously though, I have a lot of respect for Sven, so I wouldn't mind seeing him here. It would never happen, but I wouldn't be unhappy if it did.

my respect went for sven, when he called Wallcott up instead of Defoe at the world cup and did not even bother to play him, what was the point of that!!.

Sven has spent a fortune and to be honest we still have the better team. Not many of his team would get into our 1st 11. Hughes is better than Sven.

Why???

I thought he was a good, if unlucky, England manager.

His club record is simply fantastic.

City haven't done that well this season, but really he was taking over an awful club and building from nothing, even with money you can't do that in one season. If he's given time there then I'm sure they will continue to improve.

There are several of their players who I would love to see in our team.

Look at where England where when he took over.

Look where England where when he left.

Look where England are now.

He is most definitely a GOOD manager. Anybody who can look at results and think for themselves knows this.

They're a full 11 points better off now than they were at this stage last season. A bargain at 32m!

I'll always like Sven. It might be 26 years ago now, but winning the UEFA Cup (In the days where some very good teams took part) with a bankrupt amateur team is some feat. Also happens to be my local club of course, which makes it all the better. I'm also late to the party, didn't start following Rovers until Hodgson was already in place, so while I know the story with SGE I don't have the bitter memories from it.

.....and picking the 36 year old Martin Keown at the very last minute and so kicking out of the penciled in Matt Jansen for the 2002 World Cup. Again Keown didn't play and Matt.....well we know the rest.

(By the way I don't blame him for the accident, more for the fact that he replaced a highly skilled young in-form player for a past it donkey from a big club).

chelsea announce they are spending 100m on players in the summer ,our 10m looks paltry (not having a pop at anyone ,just fact) and shows the gulf nowadays especially romans blood money

Chelsea announcing that - just bumps the prices up for them then! £20m and Bentley is theres and they still have £80m to spend. Or maybe £15m + SWP will do ha ha!

I thought it was Trevor Sinclair he chose...who actually did quite well at that WC

Nicko, remember talking about the gulf between Northern & Southern based paper news?

about how them now all being affected by being based in London?

Often its northern clubs like Rovers getting bad "dirty" tags etc... as they don't see teams up north often... but then sometimes I find they don't even report big stories that happen up north. (The floods in Hull are an obvious example... but when they were down south it was everywhere!)

So it's a bit saddening to see (or rather not see... as far as I'm aware) that none of the newspapers covered the tragedy that happened on the M62 last night. A lorry caused a 6 car pile up which killed an 11 year old on the way to watch his favourite football club. the lorry driver has been arrested.

For once you talk sense (atleast, the first part of your post). We must now encourage Chelsea to come in for Bentley - we could be in for quite the windfall.

Incidentally I do think he was a decent manager for England results wise. He just wasn't very adventerous to be honest which is what the people want.

England play a very contained style because we are so scared of losing all the time which is engendered by the savage press. If we played with a bit more freedom it would do us the world of good. Even if we lost as many games at least we would be good to watch. We do have a lot of very good players - not as many as France or Spain or Brazil mind - but still a lot. We should use them more.

Hopefully capello will get this out of us, allow us to express ourselves a bit.

Not takin a certain Matty Jansen to the previous World Cup is where I lost mine for him. We all know what happened to Matt that summer and watching England they could have used him too, that's what really hurts, we could have used his skills. Didn't Sven supposedly listen to Beckham to not take Matty and instead took Keown(sp).

Never like the Swede from the outset, just something waaaay too creepy about him but that just put the icing on the cake for me.

I take it you've never watched a Capello team play then??

He is a very defensive minded manager, it'll be back to basics for England, could be succesful but wont be great to watch.

Yes he does emphasise being solid at the back. But sometimes that can lead to more freedom going forward. But it is unlikely that we are going to play like Arsenal or man utd to be fair.

He doesn't seem to mind picking players who fit a team though and changing formations which i like, although it leaves him open to a barrage of abuse at some stage. If you don't try something new with the England team you get attacked for being unimaginative and feeble. If you do something new you get attacked for being stupid and naive.

Can't win.

For a start, they've got better players.
