rovers_rob Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Here's some news for you Rob: Read a few pages back before asking. Or other relevant topics on here.. Nevermind that, it's about time to put all transfer related threads aside now anyway. Window closes in two days. No new signings on the horizon. However barring a minor miracle in Ghana the Axe will be on a plane home by then. All ready for the Everton game on saturday. Will be just like a new signing ... In fact watch him roll into town and inspire us to a stunning victory - still in the mindset of motivational leader after bearing the captains armband for a couple of weeks while on intn'l duty. Nicko, at least have the decency to make something up for us to get excited over.. Here's some news for you : I did read a few pages back and all I saw was a load of guff about Leeds and Burnley but thanks for the advice anyway.

BRFCGrez Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 It will be amusing end to the window for them down t' road. They won't sign anyone and probably let the young boy Lafferty go.
herbergeehh Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Always liked Landzaat myself, where did he go / at what price? I do hope we get a new face in midfield, or wherever to be honest - we can shuffle around a bit even by signing a defender. (Emerton)
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Got to say if the £2million being quoted for Giles Barnes is accurate, he would be a much better option than Koumas. Can play anywhere in midfield and pacy. Add to that he's only 19.
Torgeir Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Is he good enough to step right into our starting eleven though?
herbergeehh Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Agreed. Why is his price so low, contract running out? Seems like a decent prospect, quite versatile aswell? Ideally we need a player who is one of the first names on the team sheet, like Savage was when he first signed for example, but in the current climate we could do a whole lot worse than signing Barnes - who's been playing regularly in the Premiership all season.
budha Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Wasn't that the offer Jewell rejected as ridicilous? If freaking Gary Cahill costs £5M, no way Derby will sell him less than that.. unless there's some special circumstances behind it.

Well as Derby rejected it, the price isn't low. He'd certainly be a player I'd be interested in, y'know if we had any money.
modes98 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Got to say if the £2million being quoted for Giles Barnes is accurate, he would be a much better option than Koumas. It was rejected out of hand and Jewell has said something along the lines of i have no need to sell now. So unless Barnes makes a move for himself i doubt it'll happen. Huddlestone is still my shout for a CM, if spurs get tiago.
herbergeehh Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Thought so. The price of Cahill, whom I in all honesty never even have noticed being in Villa's team (feel free to show me how to write that sentence correctly..), suggests we need to bring in a player on loan, or from a foreign league. But as Nicko (and Hughes) has said, something usually comes up the last few days, so hopefully we can get in some Amdy Faye'esque midfielder, possibly even with talent. Thanks, Christian, had forgotten all about Huddlestone. Would be brilliant at this point. That being said though, Steven Reid has taken that role the last two games, if they're to play together, Reidy will need to take his old box-to-box role, or even play on the right with Bentley drifting in.

Can play anywhere in midfield and pacy. Add to that he's only 19. Koumas just made an impressive impact on the game against Boro. I would love to see that we signed him, especially if he is able to give MGP some competition on the left-side. I also think that we actually will move for Koumas tomorrow or Thursday.

1864roverite Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 There still is very little mention of any possible SALES as regards Rovers players. I just dont mean our cash pullers but even the players on the fringes of the first team. Benni 4-5m Roberts 3-4m Bentley 10-13m MGP 3-5m RSC 9m PLUS Ried 5m Samba 8m Derbyshire 4m Gallacher 1-2m I wonder if any club is fancying a last minute chance on any of the above players.

BRFCGrez Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I think only Roberts may go. As I said before, I don't think them down the road will outshine us in the next two days. They won't spend owt. Small set of b@st@rds punching above their weight!!
pksrover Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Ried 5m Samba 8m Derbyshire 4m Gallacher 1-2m I wonder if any club is fancying a last minute chance on any of the above players. Doesn't Gallacher work at LT now? Surely we can't claim any transfer fee for him anymore
EwoodGlory Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I very much doubt we will sell anyone, we don't need to. The only way it will happen is if it brings in funds to buy someone else. We need to save up for the summer and get that Zarate that Birmingham have got on loan. He played 25 minutes tonight and looks VERY useful, although his club want £20m
Wild Irish Rover Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 they can frideal for 90million Frideal be too late... Not bothered if we don't sign journeymen to fill the ranks. Just want to see us build on a good platform and push on for a European spot without having to go the Intertoto route. Trust Hughesey. The man's a feckin football genius
Brfcrule1 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 hi all, after all that but no answer to my question Nicko any news on a potential takeover?thought it was going to be soon any news would be good Laters all.

Got to disagree with the Bentley valuation. You would be talking £10-12 million for the like of Aaaron Lennon - who's a good player, but can only really play as a winger. Bents can play behind the front 1/2 accross the midfield and is excellent at set pieces. If Michael Carrick is worth £18 million then if Bents ever leaves it should not be for less than that.

AndyC Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Just for the interested regarding Ken Bates. Old Grey Beard owns substantial property in Wheelton, Higher Wheelton, Brindle and Hoghton. In particular he owns some serious land in nearby Whittle that is now subject to planning applications after his 20yr wait for the relavant time periods to pass. I dont think it too bad if he were to be an interested party in buying BRFC. What does he get ? He doesnt get a club that is 75m in debt, has no training ground, is not subject to administration, has massive potential, is well run both on and off the pitch. Lets look at his successes. He bought CFC for a paltry 1 pound and sold it for 36m personal profit. He took LUFC by the scruff of the neck, rung out the deadwood, ridded the club of substantial debts (I accept it took an enormous big set of balls to do what he did) and look at it now. Bates does know how to run a football club and a business. I met him back in 1981 when he moved from Blackburn Road, Wheelton. I was his paperboy and he gave me a nice xmas tip of 20 quid which was a lot better than the usual quid. So in the media eyes he may be a nasty little man but underneath there is a man with a vast working knowlege of what is required to run a proper football club. chelsea were 2 weeks away from administration before roman came to the table! it was very nearly a leeds situation
