Dufflite Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I've taken this from the "lets just post anything thread" (not aimed at you Topman). Here's a link to put Gamst a little more in perspective. Asists Table 09/10 If we signed anyone else on that list I think most of you would be very happy. Interesting - he has been on that list every year bar 1! Why are folks getting so purple headed? Who here was privvy to the contractual talks and knows exactly what the guy is getting paid? All any of you have read comes from the Norwegian equivalent to the bloody Daily Mail. What is the going rate for a highly experienced international midfielder at a mid table club - have we really paid over the odds?

Hughesy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 They way I see it is that he got 7 assists in the top league, on an average season for him by his standards. Next season he could easily get 10+ assists. Our corners seem to be working more too....the longer we have Big Sam, the more we will get our set pieces right and the more often we will score goals from them! Next season the target set for him should be 10 assists & 7+ goals.
budha Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Who here was privvy to the contractual talks and knows exactly what the guy is getting paid? Hughesy. Assists aside, atleast for me the biggest problem of Gamst is that he simply doesn't seem to care. Wether he blasts the ball to row Z from 5 yards or tip-taps after an opponent for 50 yards to see him score - there's no emotion but the ugly smirk on his face that reminds us of the £2M he's awarded of his "efforts" yearly.
Hughesy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Must admit he needs to get stuck in more.....im sure he will improve over the next season. Our team is getting better, we have more options & before too long its either a case of 'raise your game' or 'lose your place'. Here's hoping pressure helps raise all our players games!
broadsword Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 im sure he will improve over the next season. Blind faith? I'd recommend giving him hormone replacement therapy, feeding him raw meat and insulting his mother. See what he's like then.

Asists Table 09/10 If we signed anyone else on that list I think most of you would be very happy. Good effort from Kevin Davies too! When we were linked with him last summer I'd imagine the many clueless posts expressing similar objections largely came from the keyboards of the same clueless posters.

John Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Sure some thought the world was going to end when we were linked with Kevin Davies....
broadsword Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Or a pair of ###### would help. You reckon he's pre-op? Marjery Gamst Pedersen.
BuckyRover Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Good effort from Kevin Davies too! When we were linked with him last summer I'd imagine the many clueless posts expressing similar objections largely came from the keyboards of the same clueless posters. if we had signed Davies and gone on a winless run like we did in December, I don't think Sam would have survived. The crowd would have turned very quickly. I think he was lucky he didn't manage to pull it off. If he tried to sign him now, I think he would be given a bit more leeway based on his performance this year.

When we were linked with him last summer I'd imagine the many clueless posts expressing similar objections largely came from the keyboards of the same clueless posters. I was all for signing Davies, he knows the system Sam wants to play and he excels in it. Despite his previous time with us he's become a better player and I'd still have him here today. With him in the team the football would be better as well as once he's got the ball he very rarely loses it.

I don't think most people questioned Davies as a player, they questioned the value-for-money at his age given what Bolton were reputed to want. And I feel they were right. Calling them clueless just because they don't agree with you is somewhat harsh.

And I feel they were right. Calling them clueless just because they don't agree with you is somewhat harsh. Exactly. There aren't many better suited to Sam's gameplan than Kevin Davies, but the reputed £5m+ for a 32 year-old battering ram was crazy talk.
alexanders Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Matchwinner against Montengro with a dangerous free-kick. Had good free-kicks and some very neat passes over the defence. Partly anonymous as we know him.
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 So after a series of pretty mediocre performances in my view I thought it would be a good time for us to perhaps look back on whether it was a good idea offering Pedersen a new deal or not. I wish someone would point out what he offers because I must be missing something if my view is in the minority here. All I see is a player whose decline in pace and ability to cross a ball meant that he was moved into a central role as a makeshift central midfielder. He's just not a natural there, he doesn’t have the skill to get forward as an attacking midfielder nor does he have the combative qualities to play a defensive role. So what does he offer? Long Throws- We don't seem to score from them, they got straight to the keeper or are headed away. Corners- More often than not don't clear the first man. Free kicks- Again don't seem to clear the wall much. He's not the only one who isn't performing, but when i see the side has no creativity and teams cut through our midfield like a hot knife through butter- like we saw today against Liverpool I have to wonder what he is doing in this side. I have a suggestion, play him back on the wing and see if he can somehow recover some of the form he showed 4 or 5 years ago. If he can’t do that then forget playing him in the centre, he is not a central midfielder not in a million years.
Amo Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 There is no point to Pedersen. He brings nothing to our team. If he can earn £40k a week, I'd better get myself over to Brockhall for try-outs.
Hughesy Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Had we let Pedersen go - who would play on the left?? We have £0 funds!
beerwins Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Had we let Pedersen go - who would play on the left?? We have £0 funds! In all honesty I would have prefered us not to sign Salgado, keep Warnock and play Olsson on the left who offers more pace and a natural ability to beat his man. I thought he was being played in the centre anyway, in which case the whole of our centre midfield could be sold as we dont use them.
Mattyblue Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 He was kept because we had no funds to add to our pi$$ poor midfield. Another man less had to be avoided.
super_arran Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 So what does he offer? Long Throws- We don't seem to score from them, they got straight to the keeper or are headed away. Corners- More often than not don't clear the first man. Free kicks- Again don't seem to clear the wall much. Long throws are there because Sam wants to play them. It's not Peds fault that no-one is gettin on the end of them. Corners. Most of his corners this season have been very good. I can only remember one that didn't make it past the first man. Freekicks. Have been pretty accurate too. Whether they have been on goal or played in to the box.
joey_big_nose Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Had we let Pedersen go - who would play on the left?? We have £0 funds! Um, Diouf or Olsson? Pedersen has hardly played on the left all season, he has been almost entirely central. Pedersen started well in the first three games but is now poor again. However you have to say he is one of our better midfielders when you compare him to Nzonzi or Andrews. We have real midfield issues at the moment that need to be seriously addressed if we are going to stay up. Getting more out of Pedersen, or replacing him with someone more effective, is vital.
alexanders Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Most Liverpool fans I saw the game with yesterday praised Morten. They were all very nervous every time we had a freekick or a corner. He also had some neat touches yesterday, but he had some very very poor passes as well. Very unstable alike most of our team.
Bobby G Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 They were nervous cause they were fragile. Average at best this season. Much improved over two seasons ago.
alexanders Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I agree he is average and I agree he sholdnt be given the central midfield position, but I think he would be able to score more goals if he played wide in a 4-3-3. EH Diouf - Kalinic - Peds. Thats where he was at his best. Where he could go inside the pitch and fire home some shots. He is also good in the air and it would help our hoofing and take some pressure off Kalinic.
