Backroom Tom Posted June 21, 2009 Backroom Posted June 21, 2009 Thats a VERY good point RVR if we were to sign Davies I would hope our Marquee signing would be a top quality midifelder with flair, maybe this would soften the blow.

CrazyIvan Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Some bonkers things written on here. He hasn't signed, a bid hasn't been made, IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET. Jesus.
Ossydave Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Nicko talks speculation, not facts, can people please remember what his job is! How ANYONE can say Sam is looking at Davies and doesn't have any other targets is nothing more than SPECULATION. Like he's gonna come out and reveal all his targets and future plans. Some people are far too naive.
Stuart Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 No, it was on newsnow Its vinjay isn't it??? EDIT: ROFLMAO I only wanted it for the poll since so many where asking I thought we could use that one, LOL, LOL Did you read the Sam Allardyce and Hypocrasy of Rovers supports. I think he wrote it just so he could use his favourite word!! Been reading a few of his 'articles'. He's quite a hateful individual really isn't he.
American Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 If Davies was 26 and playing like he did last year I'd say go for it, trust Sam etc. But anything over £2m for a 32 year old is horrendous and I hope Sam gets knocked back and sees sense on that. McCarthy, Roberts and Davies as our only three strikers is really depressing. Haven't read the last 6 or so pages, but I doubt anyone will sum it up better than this.
JAL Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I think we're probably on the wrong end of an elaborate wind up here ... I know Mr Nixon has managed to get the story printed, but I reckon he's slipped the sports editor a wad of cash rather than getting paid for the article. Ho ho ho I'll get them with this one Kevin Davies coming back to Ewood??? Ha ha ha - someone will tell me Burnley are in the Premier League next Its highly probable this is a Nicko windup probably supported by his dingle mate. If this doesnt come off, Revidge blue will have a field day with Nicko
nicko Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Its highly probable this is a Nicko windup probably supported by his dingle mate. If this doesnt come off, Revidge blue will have a field day with Nicko Remind me of the last one. Fowler? Andrews? I don't do wind-ups.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Remind me of the last one. Fowler? Andrews? I don't do wind-ups. Nicko. Is it possible we have other striker targets you just haven't heard about? I find it unlikely our striker wanted list consists of two strikers. Di Santo and Davies?
BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Remind me of the last one. Fowler? Andrews? I don't do wind-ups. Hughes to Chelsea (as manager)
Blue n White Rover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Remind me of the last one. Fowler? Andrews? I don't do wind-ups. Abuse the power you have Mr.Nixon Is Davies, Roque's replacement or Derbyshire's?
Kelbo Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Forget the prejudce, bitterness, bigotry, stupidity. There is one good reason to oppose the Davies signing. It can only mean that Allardyce plans to replicate the Bolton extra-terrestrial football, with Davies as battering ram, Diouf as fiendish second-ball battler and so on. I don't care what Bolton achieved with those tactics but I think that they are contrary to the spirit - the aesthetic and entertainment - of football. If football is all about results and the actual game doesn't matter, why watch matches? FOr the see-saw suspense of anticipating the final result? Well, just watch the vidi-printer. This sucks. I thught you would have learned by now, last summer, the outcry when allardyce was tipped as next manager, w egot Ince, looked what happened??? Bit of deja vous situation!!
BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Rubbish. I said it a few pages previously, people were willing to take a chance on Ince because we didn't know what it would entail, with Sam we knew exactly what we were getting. People were happy to have him save us but will NOT be happy with route one football. We are not Bolton or Burnley, we demand better, regardless of financial constraints. He is setting us up to collapse, without the sale of players (Duff, Bentley, Cruz etc.) we won't last long.
Blue blood Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Very disappointed if he's to be our number 1 striker. As a squad player, I think the money could be better spent but that he'd be a decent acquisition to the squad. The pros are - he's decent, his game doesn't just consist of goals, and he's a target man that we need. The cons - 5 million is a lot for a decent player, especially for us. Add in the wages as well and it looks a rather expensive signing. - his age - as a club we cannot afford to spend that sort of money on a player we will only get a couple of seasons (if we are lucky) out of, without any return. He will have no sell on value whatsoever, and at 32 he's not likely to have more than a season or two left in him. Financially this is a suicidal policy for rovers to take especially considering experience is the one thing our strikers have in abundance. - not as important but it doesn't send out great messages as a club, either to other teams and especially to the fans. His conduct here last time was disgraceful. Can't help the moral around the club at all. All in all unless he is a squad player at £2 million or under I'd be against signing him.

He is setting us up to collapse, without the sale of players (Duff, Bentley, Cruz etc.) we won't last long. A lot of us didnt want Ince or Allardyce, many were disappointed that these two guys were the only ones being mentioned but Ince was that bad in the end we were so desperate for big Sam he was like a night in shining armour but we all new about his past and agreed thats his style of football wasnt what we wanted to see but relegation battles meant anything was permitted but hoped for a new dawn. That new dawn is looking like a nightmare at this moment in time what happened to the boards enthusiasm are they just sitting there taking the cash, lost, completely hopeless, deviod of new fresh ideas plodding along in their own comfort zone. Does waiting for new investment mean we cant dispense with them until someone else stumps up the cash to pay them off, if so its pretty sad..
BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Maybe you are right. I hoped and prayed that what we saw at the end of last season was a means to an end and with a whole pre season to rebuild things would be different. I do agree it is becoming nightmarish. Maybe next season we will look at Wigan and wish we had chosen Martinez instead of Ince/Sam. I wouldn't bet against it I hadn't considered it before but maybe the boardroom is where a change needs to be made?
Ossydave Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Just spoke to someone you could say is a 'senior figure' at rovers - laughed out loud at the prospect os Davies re-signing.

BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Excellent. I made the mistake of ignoring my own advice (don't believe everything "he" says). It would be a disaster waiting to happen. If he missed a good chance on his debut I doubt the crowd would ever let him recover.

Steve Moss Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 However, from watching Big Sam in interviews and in general, the man is not daft enough to pay that kind of money for Kevin Davies. He is NOT stupid, and I suggest we put the whining on hold until we can see what he does. And also, don't you think our big man mr Williams would have a little objection if he heard we were gonna bid 5 million for 32 year old Davies? Spot on. So far, all we have is talk. The more I read, the more I think that 90% of the transfer "talk" out there is focused on either agents trying to whip up interest or managers trying to unsettle the other teams' players. From what he's done here and done on other teams, Allardyce is more than competent. That means the odds are that either he's playing mind games with Bolton or that there is more to Davies than most are willing to credit. I think we'll do fine next year. We have a solid, experienced manager and I believe he'll put together a very workmanlike squad with the funds avaliable to him. I would like it to be a super star squad but, considering funds, I don't think its possible.
CrazyIvan Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 You know what Nicko, I think you are right. Kev is one of the most effective players at our level in the Premier League and he would be mightily effective. He is now for Bolton and is one of those players who shows up as one of the hardest to deal with in the Premier League. Prejudice is obvious and consistent on this forum and in general life so it's not surprising that not many here want him. Generally, people here think they know more than the 'other person' because of their experience or knowledge, truth is they know much less than your average coach in the 2nd Division let alone the manager of a Premier League side. For those who think Davies would not be an asset for Rovers, Big Sam thinks different. Big Sam has more information and knowledge than pretty much all of us put together and knows how to manage a side in Premier League sucessfully, something nobody else here can boast, therefore I'm willing to give him some leeway in this and trust his knowledge over you lot. I'm not saying I don't have my reservations, I do but...
BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Trust at your peril, that's when everything goes wrong...
CrazyIvan Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Trust at your peril, that's when everything goes wrong... That's only slightly cynical. Ince was sh!t but Big Sam has been there and done it. Kevin Davies has been there and done it. Ergo...
tashor Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 While horsemen ride across the green And snow white still remains unseen. Jal, the winged horse, Relays his messages by morse. And like some pirate sailor We crossed the oakdale main And brought our magic carpet To a marble ewood plain. While handel plays his melody Doctors cause uncertainty And though I know the lifeguard's brave There is no one for him to save. And like some pirate sailor We crossed the oakdale main And brought our magic carpet To a marble ewood plain. Tashor views his frozen feet And wraps them in a winding sheet And calls out for his favourite drink The persian that's as warm as mink. And like some pirate sailor We crossed the oakdale main And brought our magic carpet To a marble ewood plain.
BuckyRover Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 That's only slightly cynical. Ince was sh!t but Big Sam has been there and done it. Kevin Davies has been there and done it. Ergo... Been there and done it at Bolton. Failed at Newcastle. I find it slightly uninspiring that you group us in the same class as Bolton. When Souness was in charge I used to laugh at the Bolton football philosophy yet now I am supposed to lap it up. It makes it even worse when fans of other teams say we are "suited" to each other.
