Don't bother posting evidence, thats what he wants you to do

If you went on Mastermind - a stretch of imagination I know, but bear with me - do you think your specialist subject would be 'Attendance figures at East Lancashire football clubs over the last century'?

I reckon you'd be good. Very dull, as ever, but good.

By the way, things have moved on. Small is the new big (you'd be pleased to hear!).

Now the 'Burnley story' is all about the smallest attendances, the lowest crowd. It's what makes us special. Just 13k last year, only 1k in the 80s. It's incredible how we even have a club... David v Goliath etc. You can't fight this one Gav!

All the hooligans do is charge a bit, then when it looks like there might be some aggro, they back off, as if some invisible force is pushing them back.

They then shout 'COME ON' like they're going to do something, only to hide behind the police and throw the odd object!

Having grown up in the 80's and watched Rovers all over the country that is as pithy and accurate assessment of "football hooliganism" as you're going to get.

Read that post and then dont bother with Cass Pennant and his "hoolie lit" cohorts.

Fair do's. Just keep churning out the stories and myths then.

That'll help.

Certainly will if it keeps the fans separated but it's no myth as far as I am concerned.

All football hooligans are scared of a good fight where numbers are equal. It's the poor sod walking along on his own that usually gets it off a group of them. There's nothing more pathetic than seeing a big mob of idiots squaring up to another big mob of idiots outside a few bars at something like the Euros. A number of plastic chairs get lozzed about but nothing else happens. If the police actually dragged both sets of fans into a locked gym and left them to it, the only result would be a multitude of steaming turds on the floor. Birch them.

Me (aged 9 then) and my dad (aged 54 then) were mobbed and beaten up after the 5-0 thrashing of the scum. Dad was in hospital for a cupl weeks, but I received injuries which damaged the hearing complex in the brain so I am now 'moderate-to-severly' deaf. I have never forgiven the b*stards (who were all about 30)

Problem is as far as thuggery is concerned it is true. Why else did the police keep the Burnley supporters back last time and the surrounding of the Blackburn coaches in Burnley followed by the smashing up of the town centre was the behaviour of gentlemen was it?

Many of the Burnley supporters come to Ewood just for a fight and I as a pensioner am just about the target they will be looking for.

Here we are again. Firstly to the young man who had his hearing so badly affected. That is shocking and an outrage and I ma ashamed that such people chose to associate themselves with my club or indeed football in general.

So often on this forum I get such conflicting messages - on the one hand Burnley have the worst thugs in world football yet on the other Rovers regualrly used to beat the crap out of them and never lost a 'rumble' with Burnley. Even on this thread somebody talks of a video on you tube of Rovers thugs thwarted in their attempts to attack Burnley fans.

So it seems both clubs have problems though maybe ours remains at higher levels than your these days.

I hope for a hostile pair of games where both sets of fans go home physically unscathed.

agreed. the hostility should be keept in the stands with our voices, and forgotten about as soon as we step outside after the match. no football game should ever come to violence, after all the only reason us and Burnley are rivals is because we are so close to each other, hell many of us work together.

The sensible option for this game would be to ban all women, children and OAP's.

Apologies for anyone offended but this is based on safety issues only.

That's the stupidest and most sexist thing I have ever heard. If anything its the men that are hooligans and cause trouble

Oh dear, that includes me on two counts. I apologise for past misdemeanors and promise not to cause any trouble this season...

I think we just ban all men under 65 and over 10. That would make it COMPLETELY safe.

I see the eagerly anticipated trouble against Man Utd never materialised, before, during or after.

A few were desperately hoping for that on here.

I can't believe the amount of hyperbole and bed-wetting about this game. Get yourself over and enjoy the atmosphere.
