only2garners Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I also saw him with Los Straitjackets 2/3 years ago at Glastonbury, but this time it was just him and his guitar. Quite a contrast to some of the other shows on the Pyramid! Quote

Herbie6590 Posted July 3 Posted July 3 #4 in my old tickets series - Queen & Quo at Maine Road in 1986…quite the double bill. Worked in M/cr at the time a little trip down the road from the office. 1 Quote

Gav Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Was anyone at the Oasis gig last night? Thinking about it, you'll probably still be in bed if you were! Massive hysteria for this reunion, especially from a new generation as far as I can tell. I'm looking forward to going myself, but I'm not going over the top. The rest of our group........ completly Mad Fer it! Quote
Norbert Rassragr Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Oasis were my 3rd favourite band of that genre after Pulp and Super Furry Animals, but the clips I've seen of Cardiff look like they're on form. 1 Quote
Herbie6590 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 #5 Trip to the NEC with 3 uni mates to see the Canadian prog exponents. First of what would prove to be many Rush concerts over the years. 🇨🇦 2 Quote
Herbie6590 Posted July 15 Posted July 15 #6 Dire Straits were in the midst of a residency at Wembley Arena & moved down the road to play Live Aid on the Saturday. Quote

I was at Heaton Park on Weds - wasn't sure it would live up to the hype (nor my memories of Maine Rd and Loch Lomond) but I was wrong. Still recovering - physically and emotionally. What a fucking night. Band on top form, sounded as good as ever. The crowd was brilliant - no trouble/knobheads - just 80000 people and voices unified. The only gig I've seen to come close for that communal spirit was the Roses in 2012, but I think this pipped even that. 3 Quote

I'll be honest, I'm intrigued how they have managed to captive a whole new generation of fans, its unheard of in my experience. I’m going to sound really old now, but I guess it says a lot about the current music scene. But lets face it, I still see Oasis as having bollox, English, lad and football culture crossed with rock n roll, this country at its best and my God we need something to cling on to during these times. 1 Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted Monday at 12:53 Moderation Lead Posted Monday at 12:53 I guess it's easy to say Oasis are better than everyone else at the minute, but one could easily argue, that Oasis have 2 good albums and Fontaines D.C. are massive, having a huge impact and already have 4 storming albums. Can't wait to see them in August. I feel like it's far too easy to look back, than look forward and nostalgia is a lovely comfort blanket, but music has only ever progressed by things changing and things being done differently, not re-hashing the same things over and over again. 1 Quote

Lordy Lordy you couldn’t make this stuff up, a Strokes tribute band and I’m being kind, but marginally better than those other Irish rockers Kneecap 😩 Give over man. Edited 18 hours ago by Gav Quote

By saying they’re a ‘Strokes tribute band’, just proves how little of their music you’ve heard or actively listened to. Don’t just give into nostalgia and sentiment. I thought you were better than ‘it’s better because it was my era’. They’re absolutely nothing like Kneecap, only similarity is that they come from the Island of Ireland. Think on. 2 Quote

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Its lunch break at Blackburn College early 90's and as I pass the Vulcan Pub never say die by Sabbath is blasting out through the Doors. Was never a Metal Head but some fantastic Songs by that group. R.I.P. Prince of Darkness. 3 Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Sad news about Ozzie, saw him interviewed many years ago - he was hilarious could have been a stand up comedian. Sabbath were a great band - just heard a clip of an interview with him and he said they recorded their debut album Black Sabbath in a little back street studio in 12 hours flat. I find the title track also called Black Sabbath genuinely creepy and unsettling, especially if you listen to it on your own in the dark etc. RIP 1 Quote
jim mk2 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Best wishes to Jeff Lynne, we were due to attend his farewell ELO event in Hyde Park a week last Sunday and now they’ve announced it will not be rescheduled because of his illness. Hope he’s fine. 1 Quote

As a classic/ heavy rock fan I tend to take the opposite view to K Hod and would opine that music stopped round about 1990 with one or two notable exceptions. Quote

I had to wind my neck in last night as I was sounding like me dad.... But I do agree in some respects on the current music scene, or the music scene for the past 20yrs, its been pretty poor in my opinion, with as you say some notable exceptions. I've always been into music, I listen to plenty of radio and have a few musicians in bands in the family, but its a struggle to find anything that stirs the interest these days if I'm honest. As for Oasis, seen them plenty of times, wasn't overly bothered about seeing them again, but the way they've captured this new generation has been phenominal. Got The Libertines, Magic Numbers, Oasis, Paul Heaton, Bob Dylan, Pulp and John Grant gigs coming up, so its a busy summer. I'm even considering going to watch Andre Rieu and The Johann Strauss Orchestra! Edited 5 hours ago by Gav Quote
