[Archived] Rumoured takeover approach

You might get lucky once, maybe twice but the number of things that have materialised correctly over the last 12 months is beyond luck.

Got rubbished yesterday about my comments about Luke Murphy's decision but what appears in the Yorkshire Post today - McDermott played a blinder and Murphy listened to staff at Crewe - think you heard that yesterday on this MB.

Have got tired of the personal stuff on here and the snide remarks.

Think that's it for me now.

Ok bud, been good having you around. For what its worth 'banter' (hate that word) aside I've always enjoyed your input (the forum needs a broad spectrum to balance it all - the yin to chaddys yang) and you never know if you get this one right you may recover your reputation that you lost when you staked it on Kean going :P for the record though I do think comments like the above are what has gone against you slightly as you state its not a pissing contest but are always quick to claim credit, it makes others pull you up when you are wrong, the fact that like Philip you are clearly an intelligent bloke and say things with an air of authority bizarrely can go against you as well.

I'll always be grateful for the heads up that Kean was 40-1 though, never understand those odds even now

Do hope you stick around though

In his short time at Salford he's brought in an experienced and sensible coach in Brian Noble, and has seemed to go all out in trying to bring top players to an unfashionable club.

Trouble is, even if he's funding the club entirely out of his own pocket, rugby league clubs have are subject to a salary cap which is only a small fraction of our annual losses.

He could possibly have the cash to buy us, my worry is that he doesn't have the cash to run us.

Any remarks I make about the takeover are just cheeky, tongue in cheek rather than . That's the problem with text, the tone is lost. We'll see if this is true, or a load of bollards.

Nonsense. This is just the same kind of story that has creeped out every other month over the past two years. Also, did you really expect Murphy to go to the local paper and say "I was on my way to Blackburn, but Leeds offered more money?" Yesterday two people (yourself and Kamy) posted alternative reasons as to why Murphy chose Leeds. It'll take more than a list of clichés in a local rag to convince me you're correct over him. And in terms of 'personal comments etc etc,' it's an internet messageboard. Stop treating it as a family gathering and you'll stop getting your feelings hurt so much.

And you've said the last sentence six times in the last two days.

Batman,

I just want to come on here and read the rovers gossip, smile at the odd bit of banter, get annoyed by Thenodrog's rubbish (though I often enjoy his input) and occasionally have a real good laugh at some hilarious posts. Overall, this message board is usually a fairly pleasant way to spend a five minute tea break whilst keeping up to date with the football club I follow.

Your posts recently (and that Saxoman guy) just seem to be incessant arguing and back biting and it is ruining the place for me. The odd row is all well and good, but I am growing tired of the vitriolic abuse. Please let Mercerman be, we can all filter the various ITK crap for ourselves.

Personally I'm all for this place resembling a family gathering - do internet messageboards always have to descend into endless aggression? (That's a rhetorical question by the way). I have no intention of putting anyone on ignore as it upsets my egalitarian principles - so can we just let other posters be and keep the insults good humoured please?

Thanks, now back to a more peaceful brew!

Another owner may not necessarily mean a better owner.

We would potentially be going around the whole circle again until they learned the 'ownership' ropes.

And potentially with somebody reportedly considerably worse off financially than the current owners.

However bad/stupid the Venky's have been, sometimes it's better the devil you know...

Batman,

I just want to come on here and...

And the ITK p!ssing contests that started around three or four years ago have ruined it for me. I guess everyone wants different things. And humour? That got banned many moons ago.

Please don't. Didn't they liken relegation to their Mother passing away?

Would love Venky's to clear off, but surely paying up Murphy's contract etc. shows that they're clearly not even thinking about it?

Surely if there have been on going negotiations then getting rid of specified unwanted players (and officials... Silk, Agnew?) could be a condition of sale?

anyway I think we can assume that unless a very committed supporter of BRFC is involved then any potential 'investor' in BRFC will be dodgy. Once bitten... twice shy.

You would think not...but ...who would I blame then for not buying a season ticket!( joke..)

Mr K was rumoured to be interested in Leeds a while back. Some of the phrases in the article you could make fit with us..except the bit about once being huge? ...The report sent me scurrying away to check the amount of his wealth....what have I become!

but the bit about reinstating the people who were running the club when it was huge doesnt fit with Leeds does it ? unless you are a fan of the Ridsdale/ O'Leary combo, or unless Manny Cousins and Don Revie are in cryogenic suspension and just a thaw away.

We can dare to dream, but how heartwarming would be the sight of John Williams and Tom Finn escorting the new (or in fact any) new owner onto the premises?

(he could have course be talking of Wolves, Sheff Weds, even Preston (with Dear Derek Shaw on his wishlist))

I have been aware of talk of a potential takeover for about a month (although I don't know the identity of who it is).

I do wonder about this takeover if it is Mr K who is involved, I wonder if Probiz are also involved as they also have links to Rugby League. Also reading this article doesn't make for good reading but of course it could be untrue (http://community.betfair.com/horse_racing/go/thread/view/94102/29930771/dr-marwan-koukash-private-eye)

At the moment I would treat all of this with MASSIVE caution as there is absolutely no evidence coming out of Pune which suggests that the owners have engaged with anyone who wants to buy the club. As far as I know everyone who has approached them to buy the club has been ignored, and there have been plenty of approaches over the last 18 months.

Mercer - I do hope that you stay on the MB, I do like reading your posts. I have learnt over the last few years, if you put yourself out there as a source of information then you have to be able to take flack from people who don't believe what you are saying etc.

Breaking news '!!

Just down on Ewood having dinner ...there's paparazzi and tv crews

Nowhere to be seen

Just been chatting with someone who lets say knows him .. And he's adamant it's 100% Oldham he's after .

He owns plenty of racehorses, and is becoming one of the more prominent owners around (Grey colours with gold stars for anyone who switches on channel 4 on a saturday afternoon).

Although he'll need to win a few Arc De Triomphes or Dubai World Cup races to be a driving force.

Gabrial Rovers ? ;)

Here, here. My thoughts exactly. Mercerman's posts are often the most entertaining thing on here, especially during close season.

Yeah. That was my first thought, but I suppressed it. It's the hope that hurts!

But we were huge back in the early nineties. Beating United to signings like shearer, leading the league as we did in our first season and finishing fourth 9prem league record). Winning it as we did just doesn't come much huger than that. I saw loads of Rovers shirts in the south, in devon of all places. Although I'm cautious over the reason for this thread there's no denying we were huge at one stage in recent history.
