Yet Carse is our highest wicket taker

Potts is there..

The Glenn McGrath type of bowler which I think Gus Atkinson..

We need a balance attack not all about pace and pace but being accurate and tight

Hes also gone for the most runs from any bowler on either team and has gone for nearly 5 an over on average  across 8 innings.

Although you've kind of agreed with me shortly afterwards by saying it's about being accurate and tight (which is 100% correct).

I think you need a balance attack. Carse attack the batsman so will normally go for runs, whilst someone like Atkinson shouldn't. Tongue, plus other seam bowlers we have.

“ If they miss you hit the top of the off stump “. That’s always been a good line and length.

Carse has bowled too short and wide most of the time.  Poor.

Brian Statham always bowled at the stumps, always. "I'm not running in 20 yards for the batsman to leave the ball alone," he said.

True 70 years ago and true now.

Zak Crawley has played in 3 Ashes series now, here are his stats:

12 matches (22 innings)

902 runs

39.21 average

Steve Smith stats in those same series:

729 runs

34.71 average

Labuschagne too in Ashes matches (37.18)

I felt sorry for people who'd bought a ticket for day 3, especially those flying over from England.

Let's be honest Australia weren't bothered having won the series and England were hardly any better. Both sides played it like they wanted 3 days off. Just because the pitch is doing a bit doesnt mean you have to treat it like a T20.

England have been desperately uncompetitive in the other tests as well. There are times when you have to dig in - you can't be completely gung ho all the time.

Carse was very good in Melbourne, he’s played all 4 tests and the lad makes things happen. He has a knack of getting rid of Australia’s top order, not a bad knack to have in my book.

His biggest strength right now? He’s fit and raring to go, as injuries hit us hard.

Its cost ACB over 5m pounds in refunds plus the previous test which were I think 1.5m so yes I would say they are bothered

I'm just glad all that preparation in the first 3 warm-up games games meant England won the first Test in Melbourne

I only saw the highlights from the last test but I saw several batsmen get out to what appeared to just be straight balls. I didn’t see many get out to balls that did un-playable things.

Phil Tufnell backing McCullum to stay on England test head coach

When you're not producing the best players in the world and haven't done for a very long time, you have to try something different to win test matches, or you ultimately get the same result. We need a change at grass roots level, a change to the county game, I agree with that, but we still need to win test matches.

Now the bazball approach has failed in Oz, I’m hoping for something in between moving forward, we have the players who can adapt to both forms of the game, lets find that middle ground as we push towards a 2027 Ashes win in UK.

only 45 overs today but Brook and Root partnership played so well.

Its interested that neither team has played a spinner and their conditions in Australia don't favour much spin at most grounds now

Jamie Smith with another brainless dismissal after another ridiculous innings in which he could have been out 3 or 4 times. Smith represents everything that is wrong with England cricket under McCullum and has gone wrong on this tour. Another one for the axe

Just discovered whilst watching the highlights tonight that Rob Hatch is a Rovers fan. He’s from Accrington.

He is, I went to primary school with him.

I fell asleep before his actual dismissal, but I saw he got away with an attempted drive to cover only which was caught, only for it to be judged a no ball.

Very next delivery he wafts at one wide outside off stump and luckily the Aussie slip cordon were statues for a change.

He's summed up quite a lot of our batting this trip.

He pointed out (and said he was pleased to see) a Rovers shirt in the Barmy Army.

It's not just the batting - the bowling has been dire too

Potts and Carse today bowled too short and wide - and neither of them are natural opening bowlers in the first place.

Apart from Root and cameos from or two others this tour has been long one shitshow from start to finish - and that's all down to poor management
