G Somerset Rover Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Without question a dig. Got a bad feeling that this delay has cost us more than we realise.Pathetic if so. We should have been planning for this eventuality.

Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Surely more points / goals scored in total would fully justify it?Yes, it would but we need to replace Jordan's goals since he's been the only one really scoring and therefore getting our points.30 goals from wherever. (20 pro rata for the rest of the season).
Backroom DE. Posted February 1, 2016 Backroom Posted February 1, 2016 Pathetic if so. We should have been planning for this eventuality. According to Lambert himself at the start of the window we're only looking for loans and cheapies, so Jordan's move should have no real effect either way. Our club certainly likes taking digs at departing players recently though.
Dean Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Yes, it would but we need to replace Jordan's goals since he's been the only one really scoring and therefore getting our points. 30 goals from wherever. (20 pro rata for the rest of the season). Rhodes wouldn't have scored 20 goals from now until May! It's purely about points. If we get more points without him than with him then the decision is justified.
Crimpshrine Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Well glad that's done and dusted. I appreciate what Rhodes did for Rovers, especially in that first season, but I never found him a very exciting player to be honest. Reliable and hardworking but never exciting and when the goals dried up he offered nothing. So let's see where we go from here. Thanks Jordan but I'm not particularly upset.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 1, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted February 1, 2016 Gutted he's gone to be honest, but we knew it was coming eventually. Let's just hope we re-invest that cash wisely in other problem areas in the team.

If we get more points without him than with him then the decision is justified. Goals get points. It'll be interesting to see our points to game ratio with and without Rhodes. Given that our current highest league goalscorer has 2 I think it's an area we need to address. Moreso having sold the player with the most championship goals in the last 3 years (top by a 20 goal margin).

Our club certainly likes taking digs at departing players recently though. it maybe a bit unprofessional but haven't we all been thinking the same. If you're going and we all know you are just get on and do it. It's been a very frustrating day and I can imagine someone's just had enough.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Very sad to see that back of our goals. I'll miss them. At least Rhodes had the good grace to wait until all of the kids had turned over their calendars before going but what a way to put everyone through the mill. Over to Lambert now. The target is 3 players reaching double figures for his "team is better than one goalscorer" / "goals are pointless" spiel to have any creedence. The target is getting back up the league. You reckon Rhodes would have got thirty goals then between now and then end of the season playing the way he was ? I don't. At least we'll have 11 out there with no excuses for not giving it a go, not 10 and 1 waiting for the ball to come his way.

One of the main reasons for why our squad hasn't contributed goals is because Rhodes didnt contribute any assists. We had to play for him. Rhodes going should allow other players to get involved in goal scoring.
Speedie Dived Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 That little lad will be crying again. Hope his dad has been keeping his fluids up, poor so will be dehydrated with all this crying over Rhodes on/off move.

I'm more convinced by Rhodes scoring a ton of goals alongside Watt than Graham.

If you're going and we all know you are just get on and do it. It's been a very frustrating day and I can imagine someone's just had enough. To be honest gumboots it hasn't bothered me much one way or another. I assumed Rhodes would go and he has. Lambert suggested at the start of the window we weren't making any big signings so his departure shouldn't have effected the incomings anyway. Let's hope Simeon Jackson can replicate his Oxford United heroics in the upcoming weeks, Danny Graham remembers to score goals and Tony Watt starts fulfilling his potential. Somebody's going to have to start scoring... isn't Marshall now our top scorer with 3 goals?

I think JR is in real danger of being another Rover who thought the grass is greener, it has happened a lot and this departure is a bit more fraught than some of the others, hence the dig,, IMO

I know we need to find more goals throughout the rest of the team, just trying to work out the odd marking scheme you have devised, and where the numbers are coming from. Rhodes scored 11 goals in the first half of this season. I'm fairly comfortable believing that, between them, Graham, Watt and Jackson can contribute 11 goals. That's without factoring in the bigger goal threat the likes of Conway and Marshall should now offer playing with strikers that contribute to all round team play. Believe what's in your signature!

Moreso having sold the player with the most championship goals in the last 3 years (top by a 20 goal margin). There was a table on Sky and he was level with McCormack. We have been playing very poorly recently. Hopefully now with Lambert's own players performances and points start to pick up. We will probably never have a player score as many as Rhodes (this season apart) for a long time. But in a year we could have the best team we have had for years.

J*B Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Couldn't have come back after Lambert's statement on Saturday. Excited for the future. Full faith in PL.

magicalmortensleftpeg Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Listening to David Pleat on the 5Live. Saying that he's not surprised that Rhodes hasn't been picked up by a prem team. Hasn't got any outstanding attributes and will find it harder the further he goes up the divisions. He will struggle to make an impression in the prem. I'm also hearing that war and the zika virus are down to Rhodes too. So glad that he's gone and we can crack on having been held back all this time. Think you know what I was getting at. We need a striker who can create and bring others into play. Rhodes is right for Boro, a team who can create chances. Think we've made the right call but its still not nice to see him go.

Promoted teams have two goalscorers with at least 15 plus and one with at least 20 plus. Being kind, that's 30 goals we need to find (plus contribution in the 6s and 7s from a couple of others). Rhodes was capable of 30 goals per season. With him and Gestede, we had the magic formula but it didn't last long.If we need 30 goals then I'm only really expecting 3 players to contribute. Hence 10 goals each. My signature is a tribute to the late, great kelbo, so don't take the pish. I'd just prefer to have a team that includes a 25-30 goal per season striker, and a keeper who knows what a clean sheet looks like, than a team without.
