danger19_80 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Listening to David Pleat on the 5Live. Saying that he's not surprised that Rhodes hasn't been picked up by a prem team. Hasn't got any outstanding attributes and will find it harder the further he goes up the divisions. He will struggle to make an impression in the prem. He has one outstanding attribute, undeniably so.

Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 The target is getting back up the league. You reckon Rhodes would have got thirty goals then between now and then end of the season playing the way he was ? I don't. At least we'll have 11 out there with no excuses for not giving it a go, not 10 and 1 waiting for the ball to come his way. Well he managed to get 12 playing crap and he was due a run of form.
47er Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Pathetic if so. We should have been planning for this eventuality. I can't help thinking any excuse for a criticism and you're in there. I doubt the delay made any difference at all. There were posters yesterday saying we should reduce the fee to get the sale back on track. We didn't, we called their bluff and its gone ahead anyway. Well played Rovers!
allanncd Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 We're not going to spend the money tonight so what difference does it make??!!! Rhodes isn't worth £13m and he wants to go. He doesn't suit the way Lambert wants to play and the funds will be used to strengthen the squad as a whole. That is why it makes sense to sell. We've had Rhodes for 4 seasons and he hasn't got us close to promotion. His value was only going to go down. If Boro had bought McCormack then we wouldn't get anything close to £10m come the summer. Time to move on. I'm glad it's over. Absolutely right.
ewood111 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Promoted teams have two goalscorers with at least 15 plus and one with at least 20 plus. Being kind, that's 30 goals we need to find (plus contribution in the 6s and 7s from a couple of others). Rhodes was capable of 30 goals per season. With him and Gestede, we had the magic formula but it didn't last long. If we need 30 goals then I'm only really expecting 3 players to contribute. Hence 10 goals each. My signature is a tribute to the late, great kelbo, so don't take the pish. I'd just prefer to have a team that includes a 25-30 goal per season striker, and a keeper who knows what a clean sheet looks like, than a team without. I get what you're saying but I can't agree. Rhodes got 12 goals in half a season. On current form, you'd be hard pushed to expect he'd get any more in the second half of the season. How do you work out that the guys we're left with need to score 30? The rest of this season is a write off (like it or lump it), we need the goals to be spread out between more players (especially including midfielders/defenders) as that will mean the whole team is performing better. The strikers need to be in among those goals for sure, but at this point it seems absolutely farcical to be expecting anybody to score enough goals for us to be in promotion form.

You put your dosh on red and black came up. That's what happens. I've been watching 50 odd years. I've seen plenty better than Rhodes go and the sky didn't fall in. Get behind the team instead of bitching like a 12 year old who's just had his bike stolen by that big boy who lives around the corner.
arbitro Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jordan-rhodes-striker-arrives-rockliffe-10821404 Looks thrilled to be arriving His dad is driving.
Mr. E Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Good riddance. We can make a world beater's top 11 team of players who thought they were bigger than the club, then went on to fall flat on their faces. Something tells me Rhodes will be joining that team.

Wasn't taking the pish in the slightest, sorry if it came across that way. They're wise words and I think it applies perfectly to the Rhodes situation. It's why I've never really been a fan of his, I don't think he did anything to improve those around him. I know Graham works hard for the team, and it seems like Watt will do so as well. I thought the numbers were for the remaining part of this season. Hard to start trying to quantify things over a full season when we have no idea what the team will look like in six months (hopefully a fair bit different from what it does now).
Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 There was a table on Sky and he was level with McCormack. This table?
LDRover Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 His dad is driving. Thought his dad worked at Sheff Weds? Maybe that was the hold up, waiting for his old man to finish work?
islander200 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Sky bet offering 22/1 on Boro to win the championship with Rhodes to finish top scorer,I fancy a bit of that

His shirt isn't event cold yet.Got to love the patronising and cliched "get behind the team though". Cheers for that Captain Obvious!
G Somerset Rover Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I can't help thinking any excuse for a criticism and you're in there. I doubt the delay made any difference at all. There were posters yesterday saying we should reduce the fee to get the sale back on track. We didn't, we called their bluff and its gone ahead anyway. Well played Rovers! Sorry for being a pessimist but it's hard to be anything but given what we've been served up the past 6 years. We've just sold our only source of goals and are just 5 points above the drop. Yes I'm worried. But it's just my opinion. Hopefully the club surprises me and we bring in a couple of late additions.
Pedro Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I think alongside Watt he would have bagged a lot tbh. I'm more convinced by Rhodes scoring a ton of goals alongside Watt than Graham. Rhodes will score more when he puts a shift in. I feel that he stopped doing this for us but will do it for Boro. He's helped to manufacture a move for himself and in fairness it had to happen. His form since the Ipswich match has been generally poor tbh and he's been one of the biggest underperformers. No point plugging away with a system that doesn't work and a player who wants to go.
Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I get what you're saying but I can't agree. Rhodes got 12 goals in half a season. On current form, you'd be hard pushed to expect he'd get any more in the second half of the season.Again. 12 goals whilst playing gash! Our next highest scorer has 2.TWO!!!

Speedie Dived Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 This table? Yep that's the one. Jesus my eyes are going. Goals are well over rated anyway (that's a joke)
Dean Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Again. 12 goals whilst playing gash! Our next highest scorer has 2. TWO!!! Which is why we signed three other strikers this month!
Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Yep that's the one. Jesus my eyes are going. Goals are well over rated anyway (that's a joke) Amazing though how an incorrect comment can be used to undermine a point on these forums!
mustard Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I'm most concerned about the very loose and vague answer to whether the money will be reinvested. Looks like it won't happen this window which is disappointing. Anyone else worried the money will go amiss? £11mill and I'd be surprised if more than a third of that is put back in the squad. Think this squad needs a hell of a lot of investment and I really hope we get it.
Stonesrick Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I think this is best for all concerned. Lots of us have doubts about whether or not he has the qualities to make it in the Premier League. It will be interesting but I do think he will improve Boro this season who at times looks certs for promotion than other times wonder if they have what it takes. I hope he does well and proves a lot of people wrong. He seems to be a good lad but its time to move on. It gives our manager the chance to move his team and strategy forward from now on in. As Tyrone Shoelaces says, we have seen many better players move on than Jordan but the sky didn't fall in. We live in interesting times.
Jim Royle Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 This table? And I wonder where 2 of those players have been plying their trade of late?He stayed in this division because of his limitations. I will be very surprised if we see as bad performances as the one vs Bolton ever again
Stuart Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Which is why we signed three other strikers this month!Last four years...Rhodes 83 league goals Jackson 6 Graham 12 Watt 24

If there's money to spend in the summer (allegedly) I really don't understand the indecent haste to shove Rhodes out of the door now when it's too late to reinvest the proceeds. Something doesn't add up.
